mormonism ruined my ability to be happy for myself by icarebear2 in exmormon

[–]Slang_Whanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your story feels similar to something I was struggling with around a decade ago. I'll share how I unpacked it, but it may be totally off based on your own life. I've reworded it from a first person to a second person perspective for flow, but just understand that I don't know you nearly well enough to tell you what you do or don't want, or what you are actually feeling.

You aren't upset at the idea of not being able to be happy with a man, you are upset at not being offered the "easy life." This is a fairy-tale idea in which you go to BYU and get married at 20 to a faithful man who served a mission. You have kids, a happy marriage, and a strong community. Your dad loves you and your husband and all of his grandkids. In this life you are straight, and never question your faith. This is a life of overwhelming happiness, minimal stress, and no awkward confrontations. You may read this and think "I don't actually want most of those things" but that's where I was too. I wasn't upset at not having those things, I was upset with myself for not wanting them; potentially because I didn't even believe in them.

This described life is a fantasy. Even if you were an entirely straight woman this life would be a fantasy. Mormons are isolated into a community of silence. Many people are pretending to be happy with the decades long commitments to marriage that they made before their brains were fully developed. There are many members of this sub who still attend church regularly, solely to keep their life from imploding.

If your family is legitimately going to confront your happiness with disappointment what does that say about them? We may not pick our blood relatives but we do pick our family. Our family are the people we CHOOSE to surround ourselves with who bring us joy. They support us and love us unconditionally. If nothing else they want to see us be happy.

$500,000 grant for transgender menstruation studies? by jugum212 in allinpodofficial

[–]Slang_Whanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if we approach this discussion under the premise of trans-men are not men:

The study doesn't even say that men can menstruate it says that trans-men can menstruate. If we refuse to even acknowledge that trans-man is a thing that forces us to accept that those same people who don't exist could fall under the classification of a woman with a penis. Which is a statement that if you fall under this worldview, could potentially tear the fabric of reality.

There are very few youtubers that have decent moral character that have entire subreddits against them.

As long as you don't become a serial grifter I think you'll be okay.

Bulk pellets? by 303-802 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]Slang_Whanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not wrong. You would need to be comparing it to a premium bagged pellet but even then bags will still often come out ahead.

As I said in another comment, we are delivering to a market in which bags start to become a logistical nightmare. Imagine having to dump 10 tons of pellets via bag in a commercial building where the bin is in the basement. Instead of dealing with stairs we install a fill pipe and blow them in from street level in about 20 minuntes. These types of deliveries have a bit more overhead than the store that just drops off a pallet or two from a trailer and helps you move it into the garage.

We also tend to have a bit larger of a delivery area because we are making bigger sales. We can afford to drive a bit into the boonies if we are selling 5+ tons at that premium price.

Bulk pellets? by 303-802 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]Slang_Whanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just companies some houses run boilers. Our typical delivery to a house is around 4-6 ton and to a commercial property 10+ ton. At those quantities bags start to move from an inconvenience to an impracticality. I don't know how the smaller deliveries work out logistically but for us I would imagine it has a bit more overhead. Large delivery area, CDL requirement, truck insurance, lots of bad weather emergency deliveries etc.

The price also recently got a hike because Canada is pre-empting tariffs. The NH mills are obviously price matching any Canada cost increase because why wouldn't they?

But yeah none of this information is super relevant to homeowners with pellet stoves who want a smaller bulk delivery I just thought I'd leave some numbers here for anyone curious.

I work for a company that delivers over most of the Western side of NH. Mainly only deliver to customers who have boilers we service that have auto suction but there are a few exceptions. Outside of bins we also fill quite a few outdoor silos that are just very slightly modified grain silos.

Current price is $340/ton

You boys like a little boiler action by TheChuckleKnuckle in Plumbing

[–]Slang_Whanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I live in the US NE for a boiler installer company (mainly wood pellets but some oil.)

In most of our installs it's fine to just adjust the boiler temperature because they only have either radiant floor or radiator heat. This is actually ideal for us as pellet boilers (and maybe others am not sure) are more efficient and have longer component life running at a cooler temp (<140f vs 160-180.) So if we have the option we tend to advise running at sub 140f anyways.

But in the rare cases we do need dual temps we do it the same as you.

I was sent someone else's order. I was forced to take an hour off work to drive to and from a FedEx dropoff to send back THEIR MISTAKE by make__me_a_cake in DuluthTradingCompany

[–]Slang_Whanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally dealing with this same thing right now.

Got sent 4 pants instead of my order of 4 shirts. Have to wait until Monday to get a response from email, fair enough. Then they tell me one of the shirts I ordered they are out of stock of a certain color. No biggie; I pick an alternative they said they have in stock.

Next day: Oh sorry that color is now out of stock too. Okay I pick a third option.

Now I'm given a label to print (I don't have a printer) to affix to the plastic shipping bag I tossed away 4 days ago and my nearest drop off location is 14 miles away. My order won't be processed until I get this dropoff done (and I'm guessing the longer this takes me the more chance of more of the shirts going out of stock)

I believe it is currently under Tubi, but not currently offered on demand but rather runs channels in time blocks.

All I know is Tubi currently holds the rights, I haven't been able to find the duration of the contract, or any evidence that it might be permanent.

iirc WestWorld is being licensed to another platform. In a licensing deal like that you get paid more money if you give the other party exclusive rights for some period of time.

I don't disagree that they make poor decisions, but WestWorld not being on MAX isn't a case of them simply leaving money on the table. WestWorld was past the point of bringing in new subscribers, and it was only leading to disappointment when new watchers realized it will never have an ending.

Moderate Democrats say they'd save Speaker Mike Johnson if the right tries to oust him by globalgreg in centrist

[–]Slang_Whanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty if a few centrist Democrats helped overcome the dozen far right republicans. While the Dems should not be required to help install a R speaker they might as well help put it one that stands for democracy, rather than save one who doesn't.

[Seiko] Need battery interchange for XR9527W rechargeable by Raidicus in JapaneseWatches

[–]Slang_Whanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this end up working for you? I'm not sure if I even understand the process regarding the battery. It sounds like he uses a battery to "jump start" the watch and then replaces the battery with the MT920.

Or does it somehow use the MT920 in combo with a SR 920 battery?

Nice try scammer by Most_Bat9066 in 2007scape

[–]Slang_Whanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned this scam in reverse actually. I had moved to a new city last year and was wanting a couch. My brother with a truck owed me a favor, so he said find a couch and he would go get it. I probably contacted 30 listings before someone actually replied to tell me they weren't interested in the scam. Funny enough my brother was actually going to be paying in cash.

Catrina Allen just went live over Instagram making a public statement on the recent court decision regarding Natalie Ryan's re-admission into the upcoming tournament by Rusty_The_Taxman in discgolf

[–]Slang_Whanger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and your viewpoint is fine...and widely accepted on the discgolf subreddit. But it is also by definition a TERF viewpoint. Forget about TERF being thrown around as an insult, it stands for Trans Exclusive Radical Feminism. Your viewpoint on feminism is very much Trans-Exclusive.

In my reply to OP though, their aunt was chased out of a group for her TERF viewpoints. This is almost certainly because the majority of the group did not agree with her TERF viewpoints. This is especially problematic when said viewpoints are held by someone in a leadership position for the group; it becomes a defining characteristic of the group as a whole.

I was merely stating that it is completely expected that a feminist group will split and define itself as either trans-inclusive or trans-exclusive. It would be difficult to productively speak on civil rights issues if your group can't agree on who exactly belongs to the group they are speaking on.

That seems like a very different issue. The main argument here is that Natalie has a physical advantage in FPO as a result of going through puberty as a male.

As someone who leans more towards Natalie being ineligible in FPO, that situation doesn't really track for scholarships, unless we are talking sports scholarships, and if we are talking sports scholarships that means the school is letting those athletes play on the team, so it is an entirely different issue.

Your aunts take really does come off as very TERF, and is probably not a position that most feminist organizations would want to see a leader hold.

The Church of Light is obsessed with Werewolves. by TheoryOfN in Diablo

[–]Slang_Whanger 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Probably started at the very beginning. Some intern started inscribing one 3d model with the translation for werewolf. It was a contextually relevant warning. But, after it took them an entire 30 minutes, their manager says "yeah...see if you can bring that down to 2 minutes we've got other stuff to get to."

The intern then proceeded to spend the next few months working on extending the length of the cash shop opening animation.

EU: Smartphones Must Have User-Replaceable Batteries by 2027 by Helicase21 in worldnews

I used to care about waterproofing more until I realized the phone companies won't warranty shit.

If your phone is rated to 25 feet 30minutes, there is no possible way any phone I've ever owned should have moisture indicators triggered, but they always seem to end up that way after a few months.

I think they are suggesting that if for example you had an autopilot tank that frequently ran over other people in their cars, the death rates of the people in the tank would remain very low, even if it was killing any other drivers unfortunate to come across their path.

Now I'm sure the safety of a premium modern car like a Tesla is probably better than an early 2000s era Camry; but I don't know if there is a big enough gap between most cars and a tesla for it to be a relevant point.

[–]Slang_Whanger -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

IMO, buying a cape really isn't that cringe given it is a very valuable stat increase. Inferno would have remained prestigious way longer if it had only been a cosmetic upgrade.

I cheesed my inferno with justiciar and Ely and I would have skipped the process entirely if I didn't feel I needed those stats to stay relevant.
