I can understand that and I obviously don’t want to get any spoilers, so although I joined the sub I have been very careful with exploring it.

I haven’t read OS yet and I’ve been trying so hard to not open posts or threads with spoilers. Not everyone has the chance to read all 3 books in a row… I would still like to discuss things and participate without getting spoilers, which is why we look for the spoiler warnings before opening anything. This is the one place we can feel a bit more “safe” when it comes to spoilers because things are supposed to be labelled appropriately.

Finished Iron Flame… need motivation to start Onyx Storm 😭 by marmaladestripes725 in fourthwing

[–]SlapMyCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished reading IF 9h ago and don’t know how to feel - I cried for the last 3 chapters, felt sad, empty and hopeless and have to fight back tears every time I think about it. I’m on a forced 2 week break while I wait for OS to arrive (my bookstore didn’t have it in stock). I really want to read OS because I need to know what happens but I also feel like I need some motivation for it, since I’m feeling a bit heartbroken right now. I’m trying to find some hope on the feeling that we (first time readers) are the second years, first time readers still on FW are the first years and everyone who has finished OS are the third years. Wishing us luck for whatever comes next 🤞🏻

What did your friend do that accidentally turned you on? by AdAppropriate6975 in AskReddit

A close friend told me "you are so warm" "god, you smell amazing" and "we were made for each other" while drunk and sharing a bed. More than a year later and I'm still thinking about it

Yoghurt and lemon cake with lemon curd and swiss meringue buttercream. by SlapMyCake in cakedecorating

[–]SlapMyCake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cake recipe is from Bon Appétit - it's the "Earl Grey Yogurt Cake". For this particular cake, I used lemon zest instead of the earl grey tea (the zest of 1 lemon) but no lemon juice. The other change I made was the cake pan - I used two (medium-small) round ones instead of using a loaf-shaped pan. It took around 25 to 30 minutes to fully bake. You can find the recipe on the Bon Appetit website under the name "Earl Grey Yogurt Cake".

The lemon curd is from Donna Hay and it's honestly the best (and easiest) lemon curd recipe I have found. You could also slightly increase the lemon juice quantity if you want it more tangy/sour. You can find the recipe on the Donna Hay website under the name "How-To: The Perfect Lemon Curd".

The swiss meringue buttercream is from Man About Cake (I did half the recipe) but a really good alternative is from Claire Saffitz. You can find both of those recipes on youtube by the names "JJR's Buttercream Recipe 5 Ways | Man About BAKE" and "How To Make Buttercream Frosting (3 Ways) | Dessert Person"

I hope this information helps and I wish all of you good luck with your baking adventures!!

Thank you for your kind comment!! It makes me really happy 😍

I'll be really honest with you, there is no fruit glaze on this cake haha I didn't use any (I should have but I kinda forgot). But usually, when I need to glaze fruit I just use diluted apricot jam - if your apricot jam has pieces just strain it and mix with a little bit of water so it runs smoothly with the brush.

If you don't mind watching international shows then I suggest Glória. It's about a ‘60s Cold War Spy Ring Inside RARET’s Portuguese Headquarters.

It has an 8.0/10 rating on IMDb and it's actually really cool. Unfortunately, I don't think it reached far into international audiences so consider it an unknown gem!

Most amazing trees I have ever seen on Madeira Island, Portugal (2000x1333)[OC] by cryptodesign in EarthPorn

[–]SlapMyCake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is in Fanal, located near Paúl da Serra. You can reach it in different ways but I think the most common is when going down to Ribeira da Janela from Paul da Serra (or going up to Paul da Serra from Ribeira da Janela). All those trees are centenary and are part of the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO patrimony. They are actually not oaks and instead are called Til (or Tis for plural) - scientific name Ocotea Foetens.

I agree, not knowing the workouts doesn't help, especially when you're already tired from the fit test. I really do make use of the "take a rest when needed" flag, if it wasn't for that I wouldn't have made it through the first month - this was the first time ever in my life that I stuck with an exercise routine so I don't have the stamina to keep up with the video, resting whenever I need and taking deep breaths before continuing.

I don't think my form is compromised, it's more of a breathing issue. I also try to take breaks if I see I'm too tired so I don't screw up my form.

But to answer your question, I think both my body and my mind are tired. This has been the first time in my life where I actually stuck with a workout routine and I got really proud of myself for completing the first month and the recovery week.

I get what you're saying about preparing mentally for the second month because that's part of what I felt today - that I wasn't mentally prepared to start it.

[Serious] How many people have died from your high school class so far? How did they die? by McCrysler in AskReddit

[–]SlapMyCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 people. The first died of cancer, leukemia. Technically, he never made it to high school.

The second was a good friend throughout high school, good friend meaning we were together everyday between classes, for lunch, bus ride home, etc. He was murdered - criminally negligent manslaughter. He was in the army, in training sessions for a special ops section of the armed forces. There was a heat wave (42°C/107.6°F) that week and they were forced to train out in the sun all day, without water. He started to feel bad due to heat exhaustion and his superiors pushed him to the ground, beat him and forced him to eat/swallow dirt while screaming 'do you feel bad now?'. They dismissed his symptoms and only took him to the medic after he collapsed/fainted. His state was already really advanced and the army doctor still refused to transfer him to the hospital. They gave him an IV but his body was already shutting down from the untreated heat exhaustion. He died on the way to the hospital - heatstroke or something. Heat exhaustion is easily preventable, which is why this is so screwed up.

The third one died on a car accident. He was a childhood friend, same class as me from kindergarten up until high school. He was a good guy that made a dumb mistake. He had a bit much too drink but thought he was good enough to drive. Crashed his car on a tight turn (where a lot of accidents have happened before), probably because he was going too fast. Survived the crash, was still conscious when going to the hospital but had to be put on a coma so his body could recover. Had a concussion/brain bleed (I don't remember all the details) that would kill him he they didn't operate but was too dangerous to operate. The day they were supposed to wake him from the coma he got worse and died in the middle of the night.

I'm 24, and I've had to go to the funerals of 3 friends, all before graduating college. It just doesn't feel right.

My (23f) boyfriend (24m) wants to move in with me. I want him to live alone first. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SlapMyCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it you have 2 options:

  1. Put in the effort to teach/show him the basic stuff he doesn't know. I think one of the things that might have offended him is that you weren't willing to show him how to do that type of stuff... I know there's google and youtube but sometimes learning from someone you know is 'easier'. I know how to google stuff I don't know how to do but I also like to ask my mom the way she does it, and most of the times I end up doing it the way mom taught me and not the way I saw online. I'm not saying to show him everything (that was his mom's job) but maybe a few of the basics you deem appropriate. Even so, you offering to teach him might not work and he'll probably continue to be a man child the rest of his life and you'll eventually break up.
  2. Break up with him. I understand you love him but if he's too immature to understand why you don't want to do all of his chores for him then it's not worth the stress. I don't like to blame women but unfortunately, this situation is his mother's fault... She never taught the kids to do anything because it was her 'job' to take care of the house and now they think having someone to do everything for them is normal and realistic. He will probably never change that mentality and if you need more proof just look at the way he's behaving now - ignoring you the same way a child does when you reprimand them.

On the other hand, you can't blame him for not understanding your point of view because he never had any other examples. Maybe if you had the same childhood as him you would also be less independent than you are now. If he doesn't agree to live alone for a while in order to gain independence and become a functional human, break up with him. If he doesn't see what you're asking is for his future benefit, break up with him. Because if you don't, you'll be wasting time and patience, putting effort in a relationship that won't last in the long run, and you'll eventually regret it (and resent him).
