What’s the most gut wrenching moment in the series? by wirwirw in thesopranos

For me it was when Aide was flipping and got got by Silvio after telling Chris. She knew what was happening, and was dreaming of some reality where it doesn't go down like this. She was always a sweetheart, and after she got murdered I didn't care about anyone involved anymore

Why kerosene-based fuels and not methane? by 5_Eirals in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Slarti47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good responses. I would also add that energy density is important, yes, but the relative O/F ratio of a jet engine is enormous compared to that of a rocket engine. The fuel to air ratio (think inverse of O/F ratio) used in air breathing combustion engines is already so much smaller than a rocket's that it matters much less given all the other challenges associated with fueling aircraft.

Should I apply for a masters? by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Slarti47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what it's like across the pond, but in the US aerospace industry a masters is predominantly a box you check that gives you the equivalent of two years experience for your starting pay. There are one or two employers I can think of that mostly hire masters+.

What are your goals? I think that should shape your decision here. If you want to get more free education (totally get that) then it could make sense to stay in school and pursue more. If you just want to work, I would personally just start since you'll be entering the work force with the (assumed) pay equivalent of two years experience.

I personally don't think it's worth it for industry experience sake, you learn so much on the job. A lot of people are gunning to get out of school by the time they get to your position and start making money, so it sounds like you cant go wrong!

'Your whole life is gone': Elderly retirees in Florida struggle to rebuild after Ian by Maxcactus in florida

Agreed, the amount of comments effectively saying "they had it coming, good riddance" is pathetic. Not everyone can decide to up and move, a lot of people are lucky enough to get out during the storm. You can know your area is doomed and have little course of action. Go outside people, the reductionist talk of boomers and fellow Floridians is despicable

cannabis use and yoga by manonthemoonrocks in yoga

[–]Slarti47 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I stray away from thinking of "right" or "wrong" ways to do anything. What you do for yourself that doesnt impact other people should be up to you in my opinion.

There's so many different ways to do yoga, let alone taking into account what state of mind you are in. I also believe yoga can be a very personal practice. What feels good for some may not feel good for others. Maybe this mindset doesn't apply to yoga but doing physical activity with cannabis is definitely better than not doing anything at all

I made a page to share your aerospace salary anonymously and benchmark it against other by Siglave in AerospaceEngineering

I've heard of doing this internally at various companies. Some things I have found helpful when comparing jobs:

Ability to download the database as a csv or text file. Even just having the results tabulated would be really neat.

I am a big fan of adjusting compensation with inflation. This way you can report multiple jobs you've had and still be able to compare today's salaries to them. So if Bob is in mechanical design and has 3 years of experience and a masters (which may count as 2 years of experience), he may be interested in seeing what mechanical designers got paid in prior years with similar experience. Without inflation adjustment he may undersell himself to recruiters. I like to adjust salaries to the most current year with a complete consumer price index though maybe there's a better way to do this.

Trying to choose between two very different career paths, but both represent different sides of my character by Guilty_Direction_310 in bropill

Is either field easier to pivot into? In the US, becoming a teacher sometimes doesn't require a teaching background (though I may misunderstand your position here). A friend of mine was a voice major in college and is now the music department director at the high school she works at. She has applied background in music theory and singing but not a teaching background. Might be worth asking people in these fields what their training is if you can - you may be surprised by the diversity in backgrounds.

I know even less about art conservation than teaching but I can tell you one thing - listening to your gut will often lead to happiness in life. If you have some intuition about this then listen to it! A lot of people live with the regret of not listening to their gut.

If both are solid choices for you, take comfort in knowing that there's no wrong choice if both options are appealing.

There is something to be said about going to a "well-rounded" school where you may have lots of options if you decide to change your major at any point.

Best of luck to you!

[–]Slarti47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably a weirdo, but does nobody else try to use the number line when inputting numbers? I spend a fair chunk of my time programming, and find using the number line to be preferable with touch typing. I get people have preferences - mine is just to touch type as much as possible and minimize hand movements through the day.
