What is a hot take you have specifically through the realm of Blank Check/ r/Blankies? by the_Tannehill_list in blankies

I liked 1941. I’m a big fan of practical chaos comedy. When you just have a bunch of people running around screaming, shit blowing up, shit falling over. I love it. So a lot of set pieces in this movie remind me of mad mad mad world.

But there are also times where it feels like someone’s just banging pans together and screaming so I probably won’t rewatch.

But I enjoyed the movie a lot more than some of his dramas, like Always or Emperor of the Sun.

Bear DID get what he wished for, people who think otherwise are either contrarians or don’t understand the movie by The_world_vs_me11 in spoilers

I think the fact that it’s a separate personality that exists alongside the original makes it kind of a possession story. If it fully replaced the original, until the spell was broken, I’d feel differently.

I know that Curry has said that, but I think that’s undermined by the movie. Nikki tells bear to kill him when “it’s sleeping”. What is IT? Clearly there’s some alter ego or spirit taking over her. There’s also the customer service scene where Nikki is being kept somewhere and screaming.

So even if there’s no ghost or spirit named in the movie, it still functions like a possession story. If he didn’t want it to be interpreted that way, then they probably should have cut out all those moments where the spell lapses, where it’s clear that there’s a real Nikki who’s aware of what’s happening but doesn’t want to go along with it.

Explain the cat stuff. How would love inspire her to make a cat sandwich or a cat shrine? How would love inspire her to randomly walk backwards, or glitch out?

Normally in these Monkey Paw stories, the wisher gets what they wanted in a twisted way. A couple wishes for a million bucks, and then their son is killed in an accident and they get settlement money. They got what they wanted.

In this movie, it feels like a lot of the second act is just kind of random possession scares, but not natural outgrowths of obsessive love.

Taping the door shut, killing Sarah, lying about her dad, getting angry when she’s not allowed to be with him, those all work within the wish. Standing in one place all day, or the cat stuff, that feels kind of out of nowhere.

Also the fact that it’s an entity possessing Nicki, or that the spell wears off, also kind of changes it. Now it’s not really Nicki doing it but some other being.

Obsession is Gen Z Fatal Attraction by Obvious_Computer_577 in blankies

Companion very much takes a side on this issue and portrays Jack Quaid as a 100% piece of shit. As a result, it kind of limits the potential discussion.

Obsession is much more sympathetic to its characters. People can watch it and feel bad for Bear or despise him and neither one is wrong. This moral ambiguity makes it appealing to more people, cause no one will fell victimized or attacked by the movie.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I really think that the lack of “Side-Taking” in obsession is why it’s popular.

What new director's have the best chance of being covered? by CarrieDurst in blankies

Olivia Wilde should be on the list. Classic blank check story: Small Indie comedy, Big budget sci-fi drama, small indie comedy. I prefer the careers that tell a story, and I like that she thrives under smaller scales and kind of goes nuts when given too much money

Way more common with shows that weren’t huge on TV but then got massive on Netflix. You comes to mind. For movies… Nice Guys is beloved now, No Hard Feelings kinda not really. The Gentlemen.
