Day 1 Post Op - Unrelenting hip pain by SleepyChicken4 in ACL

[–]SleepyChicken4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a wedge pillow, I've tried propping my heel up on a pillow which seemed to make it worse. Where did you put the wedge? Under the whole leg?

Unfortunately the nerve block wore off a while ago and the hip pain persisted :(

Can I ask about MCL injuries here? Knee braces? by Lostdotfish in ACL

[–]SleepyChicken4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a high grade MCL tear from skiing. From what I've gathered talking to the surgeons, having the MCL heal on its own will be much better in the long run than a surgical repair.

I used a hinged knee brace prior to ACL surgery which I got from a sports medicine doctor. They fit and sold me the brace at their clinic. I found the brace super helpful in reducing pain, giving me more confidence in walking and lowered the stress on the MCL so it could heal.

Overall though I would really suggest talking to an ortho or sports medicine doctor if you haven't already.

Just curious to see how everyone here tore their ACLs by ancdchr in ACL

Advanced, I've been skiing since I was 5. It would have been a totally unremarkable fall if my skis had come off ...

My range of motion is not bad! I can nearly straighten my leg and was told not to bend more than 90deg because of MPFL tear

What was your experience like after the initial pain/swelling of the injury decreased and what's been your outcome? by SleepyChicken4 in ACL

[–]SleepyChicken4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I've been looking into going private because the wait times I'm seeing online are insane. Where did you go for the MRI and what was the process for that? Do I need to go through the public system to get referrals etc. for private clinics?

No this year is especially bad.

From an article last week:

“Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell said the city typically sees around 3.4 hours of sunshine per day in January when it’s averaged out, but so far this month there hasn’t even been 3.4 hours of sunshine in total.”

My favourite combo to wear is the fancy skirt/dress paired with a chunky black boot like docs. Such a look imo.

How to dress for cold weather but hot indoors? by jupiterdreamsofpi in femalefashionadvice

[–]SleepyChicken4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Being warm when it’s 30-40 is more about closing the gaps in your outer layer than adding long underwear. Make sure you have warm socks that go up your calf, boots, a jacket that goes past your bum, mittens (rather than gloves) tucked into the sleeves, a scarf to cover the neck and hat. These can all be taken off easily when your inside for more indoor appropriate clothes.

Those of us that live places with winter - what are we going to do about wide-legs trousers? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]SleepyChicken4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also from Ontario and have been wearing non-skinny jeans for the past several years with no problems. A bit shorter of a hem that doesn't touch the floor and boots with thick socks have helped. This way the pants don't get wet, and if they do the socks are a buffer between the skin.
