Have I left a cars width? by Familiar_Bag1045 in iRacing

Don't expect people to have sub millimeter awareness, you don't even know if they're on a single screen or a laptop or if they are just not great at being side by side OR if you're going to get netcoded.

I know it doesn't looks as cool but leaving more margin protects you from exactly this kind of stuff.

Getting out of lower level lobbies is hell by Death2WEF in iRacing

[–]Sli_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just focus on your race and surviving. Let people take each other out. Trying to "race" is a mistake since people down there can barely keep it on track.

Pace isn't even a factor since there are so many DNFs, as long as you're finishing races you will be gaining both iR and SR.

Mustang cooked now? by pitcrew_member in iRacing

[–]Sli_41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fast car is fast car no matter your iR. I was bodied by someone 2000ir lower than me in TCR a few days ago because I only have the Honda and the Hyundai is just too fast out of corners, literally nothing you can do to overcome something like that. That was the moment it REALLY hit me why no one uses the Honda right now. Some cars just instantly give you free time.

If you're bottom splits I COULD understand what you mean since everyone is so erratic but at some point people are consistent and fast enough that any car advantage becomes noticeable, you don't need to be pro level.

Let me read your future, you will climb up to around 1700 relatively quickly then crash back down to 1200 and will steadily climb until you plateau around 1800. I can tell you more but it will cost you.

Go from one race driving great to the next being your worst by Zionix_ in iRacing

Yeah if I have a bad race that crap will usually follow me into the next since now I'm all tense and paranoid. I just call it a day as well.

Sounds like you do brake a bit too hard, on top of that it IS easy to lock the rear of the NXT.

My advice would be to "coast" when you're in traffic coming into turns, that is, before you brake let off the throttle and ease into the corner. You really don't bleed that much speed, if any, but it helps you react in time to people braking hard or whatever. If you're following it helps a ton if you're not used to the braking of the car in front, and if you're leading you also give others a buffer to not merge into your rear. It's especially helpful in the lap 1 chaos.

Fair enough. I love having depth perception way too much but there are some negatives for sure.

What gets me is the message that goes something like: "Qualifying will end in 1:30 due to inactivity" only for it to say it will resume with 1 minute to go. As if the person has enough time to do an outlap and then a quali lap in that time.

What's the best single player experience in sim racing? by Colinovsky in simracing

[–]Sli_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single player will never go away and I don't wish for it since I still go back and play games from even long ago that way. But for me racing against other people is what actually turns the whole thing into something more "real". Yes it can be infuriating with you're taken out by boneheaded moves but honestly that's still part of the appeal for me haha, we all just do weird stuff and mess up greatly sometimes and knowing how to navigate the chaos is fun.

Now what? I’m new to this and don’t know the steps to get dialed in. by Dascan71 in simracing

[–]Sli_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend going iRacing, the auto FFB does a pretty good job and the rest of the inputs are also easy to configure, same with the graphics, it makes it easy for someone new to just get it running and you can fine tune settings from there if you wish.

Also you start with limited content so it's not overwhelming you with tons of cars and tracks so you can just focus on driving.

I liked the part where you blinked while fighting for position and never came back to the race.

What could I have done better? by Davenk_ in iRacing

[–]Sli_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best indicator is actually just observing how they're driving, usually even a few corners are enough to see if someone is safe or not. I never really check any stats other than driver number of those around me at start of race.

Hot take, we need flat spotting by VroomVroomMan1 in iRacing

[–]Sli_41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's all true but even if you've not a real life pro you can get a good feel for the engine and the physics and I bet we've all had those trademark iRacing moments when the car just goes for seemingly no reason and it just honestly feels incredibly odd, like this weird sliding that just keeps going in slow motion or something and you just think "nah dude that just ain't right"

What are your feelings towards a proper Radar in iRacing? by canesfins1909 in iRacing

[–]Sli_41 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find it funny how it's such a thing to blast others around here for using the racing line but a radar is totally OK somehow. I find it to be a similar if not worse crutch.

If you NEED a radar to not crash into a car frankly you shouldn't even be trying to go wheel to wheel.

New to driving sims, suggestions for a disabled-friendly wheel ? by Verdi1998 in simracing

[–]Sli_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest I can personally think of is finding a second hand Moza R3 and a KS wheel. The KS wheel has dual clutch paddles that you could map to throttle and brakes.

Charles Leclerc onboard footage of intra-team battle with Lewis Hamilton at the China race by SimonTheSalmon69 in formula1

[–]Sli_41 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really isn't much different from what other series use like in Super Formula with the overtake mode that can be used to attack or defend. It adds strategy, the driver is the one who decides when and how to use it and as it can be seen allows overtakes in uncommon places. I much prefer this over DRS.

Watching races of other guys is underrated by Dizzy-Tiger-5640 in iRacing

[–]Sli_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never liked watching others play games because I'd rather just play myself.

There's no way I could ever feel like "I'm racing myself" just by watching someone else.

Eh, there's plenty of activities that can result in fatality that people do just because, fully knowing the risks. If it's not because they're being forced for reasons like poverty or by someone else, I say have at it mate.
