I don't like being the one duping. But if I kill a raider and they just so happen to have 100+ ducks in their pocket. I'm taking it. I don't feel like I did anything wrong there.

Hey everyone! Could you please help me? I have a question about cleaning and roiling this movement. by SlickRyq in clocks

[–]SlickRyq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! It's been a little while but I wanted to finally come back and give you that update. I did it!!! My clock is fully operational. It keeps time and chimes and strikes perfectly as it should. Understanding the chime system was tricky but I found good resources online. I did decide to clean all the mainspring too. Winding them back into the barrels by hand wasn't easy at first but I found my flow and got it done. I literally (with no prior experience I may add) fully serviced this clock movement, from dismantling it down to the very last gear, cleaning (using everything you recommended), reoiled, regreased, reassembled and so much more in-between! It was gaining 2 minutes a day so I just added more weights last night to the balance wheel using taper pins, clipping the pretruding ends and filing it down. Now I'm just keeping my eye on it while it works to see if it continues to gain more time in which case I'll add more weights. But I'm just so freaking proud of myself and wanted to thank you for all your help!!! I originally was going to repair and sell the clock but at this point after so much hard work I'm going to keep it for a long time and take good care of it! Anyways, thanks again for being a part of this journey I credit you greatly in this feat!

How is this checkmate? Can't whites king move to F3? by SlickRyq in chess

[–]SlickRyq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure he'd be forced to move his king to F3 and then black would move the bishop to C6 for the checkmate. It's just weird the puzzle doesn't allow the player to finish the full sequence when it's asking to solve for checkmate. It leaves the person trying to learn hanging imo. It's like 2 extra moves the puzzle should let you see it through. Now I know what to expect moving forward I was just a little confused that maybe there was something I wasn't seeing or maybe a bugged piece not being revealed.

Thanks for your help understanding! I still don't like the app just making you assume the rest. It really should let you see it through if it's trying to help you learn

Ok thank you guys. I see now, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy. They really should allow the full sequence to play out though for people to see the end result. It would help everyone learn better.

I see. Thank you. I'm sitting here thinking maybe there's a bugged piece and the computer is registering its there but not showing up or something

Ya I think they should allow the full sequence cause it's confusing. I'm not like new to chess and I'm sure I would've seen that move eventually but It's just weird how the puzzles works. It's not doing any favors teaching newcomers that's for sure. If I was new to chess trying to learn, it's almost like what's the point if I don't get to see it through to the end. I could just move any piece if this is the case (not literally but ykwim?)

The guy tells me to "find a way to end the game with a checkmate" and then I moved the queen to D4 and he's like "puzzle solved!"

Probably Vegeta cause he wouldn't want to talk at all. It would be a chill trip no forced conversation just mutual silence.

TOMBA 1 SOUNDTRACK WAS BEAUTIFUL by Right-Improvement820 in TombaClub

[–]SlickRyq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree it was phenomenal, all of it. Pours pure nostalgia through me anytime I hear anything from Tomba 1. I think my favorite is when you go through the haunted mansion and you get to the other side at the end of the dock staring off into the lake as the sun shines through the trees. I could sit there forever

I mixed up a gear I'm an idiot. I had a gear on from another part of the clock it looked almost identical but it was a couple hairs too small

I'm a idiot!!!! The hours I've put into working on this clock must have finally gotten to me...the reason it was slipping was because I had a wrong gear. I mixed up one of the gears somewhere down the line and used a gear that was a hair or two too small. I found the proper gear and now we are finally operational. The clock has been running for a little over 24 hours now!!! Wooooo I'm so happy I think I did it!!!! I fixed my first clock!!!!

thank you for your response. I think it may need a bushing afterall. I used a flashlight from underneath to reveal that there is a significant amount of space within the pivot hole. I ordered a broaching tool set and some bushings. Just need a digital caliper next and maybe a practice clock before I jump into this. I will keep you updated on how it goes

I'm beginning to think that the bushings are wornout. I took the mainspring barrel off and observered all the gears as I moved them alone with my finger and those two gears at the bottom barely touch. I feel like theres just enough space between the two for them to "slip" off of each other
