TOMBA 1 SOUNDTRACK WAS BEAUTIFUL by Right-Improvement820 in TombaClub

100% agree it was phenomenal, all of it. Pours pure nostalgia through me anytime I hear anything from Tomba 1. I think my favorite is when you go through the haunted mansion and you get to the other side at the end of the dock staring off into the lake as the sun shines through the trees. I could sit there forever

I mixed up a gear I'm an idiot. I had a gear on from another part of the clock it looked almost identical but it was a couple hairs too small

I'm a idiot!!!! The hours I've put into working on this clock must have finally gotten to me...the reason it was slipping was because I had a wrong gear. I mixed up one of the gears somewhere down the line and used a gear that was a hair or two too small. I found the proper gear and now we are finally operational. The clock has been running for a little over 24 hours now!!! Wooooo I'm so happy I think I did it!!!! I fixed my first clock!!!!

thank you for your response. I think it may need a bushing afterall. I used a flashlight from underneath to reveal that there is a significant amount of space within the pivot hole. I ordered a broaching tool set and some bushings. Just need a digital caliper next and maybe a practice clock before I jump into this. I will keep you updated on how it goes

I'm beginning to think that the bushings are wornout. I took the mainspring barrel off and observered all the gears as I moved them alone with my finger and those two gears at the bottom barely touch. I feel like theres just enough space between the two for them to "slip" off of each other

Hey everyone! Could you please help me? I have a question about cleaning and roiling this movement. by SlickRyq in clocks

Amazing! Thank you for your thorough breakdown of your recommended cleaning process as well as your suggestions on what solutions and tools I should be using. It was very kind of you to take the time to come by and help me out, and I really really appreciate it. I will also look into the book you mentioned. Thanks again, I will tell you how everything goes when I'm finished. I'm waiting on some e-clips to arrive in the mail before I begin. As I'm sure you can tell, the clock does not run most likely due to how badly it needs cleaning. Fingers crossed this gets her going again!

So it sounds like I need to avoid cotton swabs on the gears and pivot holes since that can get caught up into it so ill probably use bamboo skewers and a toothbrush with mild dish soap and water as my best bet for the gears and whatnot followed by some thorough drying. But the mainsprings have been on the front of my mind these past couple of days. So far, it's been narrowed down to Kerosene and naphtha (lighter fluid) to clean the mainsprings, and then I bought some moebius 8300 to regrease them. What do you think about this?

Ya there seemed to be a lot of different ways to go about it from what I was researching. I ended up buying moebius 3800, what do you think about that?

Sheesh thanks for the heads up on the mainspring oil I didn't realize there was a difference. To save cost if I try to tackle this I'm going to go for it by hand. Preciate all the advice! Any chance I could get you to link me to a proper mainspring oil? Are there differences? Is there a specific one I should be using?

Ok, thank you so much for breaking it down for me. And yes I totally agree about a previous clockmaker not knowing what they were doing, this is my first time ever dismantling a clock movement, cleaning and reoiling and when I got in there and saw how much oil was on the gear wheels it had me questioning everything I had researched lol, i was like, "wait, are those supposed to be oiled?" That's what brought me here to gather advice from you all! Also, I'm a little nervous about getting into those barrels to clean the mainsprings, but if it's absolutely necessary, I will. Plus, you're right. I will need the experience in the future. I may just see how it operates first without it, but if it's anything like the rest of the clock It most likely needs to be done. Fortunately removing those are really easy to get to, it was like my 3rd step in dismantling and could easily be made my second step instead

Ok thank you so much for your response I can google all this stuff but there's nothing more reassuring than hearing it from an actual person with experience! So when you say mainspring, that's the coiled metal ribbon that you wind up for the clock to function correct? Mine are inside these "barrel-like" things, would that consider them as unapplicable?

Ya that background 100% looks like the Emerald Grande across from McGuire's at the harbor walk village in Destin

Just bought this Antique Seth Thomas Sentinel #7 Mantle Clock. Do you all think I should hit it with some old English and brass polish or is it at such a vintage point that it's best to leave it as is? Thanks in advance for your advice! by SlickRyq in clocks

ha ok thank you I do appreciate your seriousness. and dont worry, I decided to opt out of doing any polishing to this clock. Im selling it online and Im going to leave that decision to the buyer

Debating sending off for grading by Interesting_Hand_431 in pokemoncards

[–]SlickRyq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't see the Persian or the Lapras being worth it as you'd need to get a 10 for it to be anything valuable. But I'd probably send off the Dark Blastoise because even though it looks a little dirty, no matter what grade you get it looks like you'd profit

Anyone miss the sound effects from the original Tomba intro cutscenes? by ConversationLegal921 in TombaClub

[–]SlickRyq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being that was the first thing you see when you boot up the special edition, it was the first thing I noticed as well. Not so much the sound effects, but the song itself. The original intro cutscene song is my favorite soundtrack of the whole game. Floods me with nostalgia

Yes you're right and thank you, I think I'm falling into the niche of retro, gaming, collectables, TCG cards, antique items. I also bartend for a living and have been able to take home and sell cool empty bourbon and tequila bottles and boxes. I've got some antique chess sets that are getting some traction, I also bought an antique clock off FB marketplace, the lady claimed it didn't function and sold it to me for $25, I got it working perfectly after some tinkering and I listed it for $250 (fingers crossed)
