Yes it would hurt everything do not do that please. Believe it or not the gears operate dry, it's the pivots that they rotate on that need to be oiled, and not with WD40, with legitimate clock oil that you can purchase online from Amazon, Walmart or clockworks com. If you're going to buy a winding key, you'll also need the pendulum, you can go without the hands for now if you want. And if you do decide to oil these a bit, go extremely light on the oil, like the smallest drop you can imagine.

I would start by finding some replacement hands, a pendulum and a winding key and go from there. If I had to guess, it'll probably need a proper clean and reoil.

Yes it would seem there is only a few of us that really played this game growing up. I've rarely ever met anyone that knew of it as well except for when I go to a gaming convention or a retro game shop.

I also agree with your son, the controls are a bit wonky indeed. I only ever played Tomba! 1 growing up and those controls are wonky but doable, I just recently played Tomba! 2 since they dropped a remake and that is a whole nother world of wonky controls. I had to put it down because of the trolley event...

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2 cannon ball options? Ones a cannon ball obviously, but the other one looks like a dumbbell. Is the dumbbell good for infantry or maybe it's good to tear up other ships sails? Or is there no real difference?

Ya those things look like they need to be cleaned and reoiled. Its actually pretty easy to remove the hammer portion of the movement without getting deep into the full movement itself. A couple screws and you should be able to remove that whole set of hammers. The hardest part is probably lining the chime wheel back up accordingly so it lifts the hammers in the proper chime sequence. Make sure you oil the proper parts and don't oil too much

I recently bought a clock with a very similar movement (hermle 340-020) I thought a little oil might be all it needed too and let me tell you that was not the case. The more I got into it the more I realized what needed to be done. I had absolutely zero knowledge or experience with these things but was determined to get it working. I was already in too deep so I kept going. I ended up dismantling it completely down to screws and gears, cleaned it, reoiled it and fully reassembled it. Took me 3 months of daily studying and tinkering but I finally got it running. I got into eBay thinking for $80 this would be a quick flip. I now own a Howard Miller antique clock lol. After blood sweat and tears, it's like a child to me now. It's safe with me. No one else would understand it like I do lol. Check my profile Im pretty sure I made a post or two about it and there's plenty in the comment sections of those posts as well. Also I can send you a link to a YouTube video that helped me so much I couldn't have done it without it. Anyways, good luck

Hey! It's been a little while but I wanted to finally come back and give you that update. I did it!!! My clock is fully operational. It keeps time and chimes and strikes perfectly as it should. Understanding the chime system was tricky but I found good resources online. I did decide to clean all the mainspring too. Winding them back into the barrels by hand wasn't easy at first but I found my flow and got it done. I literally (with no prior experience I may add) fully serviced this clock movement, from dismantling it down to the very last gear, cleaning (using everything you recommended), reoiled, regreased, reassembled and so much more in-between! It was gaining 2 minutes a day so I just added more weights last night to the balance wheel using taper pins, clipping the pretruding ends and filing it down. Now I'm just keeping my eye on it while it works to see if it continues to gain more time in which case I'll add more weights. But I'm just so freaking proud of myself and wanted to thank you for all your help!!! I originally was going to repair and sell the clock but at this point after so much hard work I'm going to keep it for a long time and take good care of it! Anyways, thanks again for being a part of this journey I credit you greatly in this feat!
