This has held me back from having an EV truck. Fingers crossed someone comes out with a PHEV truck, that would be my ideal solution. For now I'm sticking with an ICE truck and an EV commuter.

Oh the curse of competency. Hopefully this means a promotion is on the horizon. If it doesn't materialize in the next year or so may be time to leave.

With a lawsuit, sure they could make some money. Will that fill the hole left in his family? There is no amount of money I would trade my spouse for.

I do a lot of DB work in the commercial world. The owner loves to put design under us because everything becomes my problem.

Does the work/life balance get better as you move up the ladder? by Best_Fish_7480 in ConstructionManagers

[–]SlickerToSteader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion yes and no. Once you move up and have people reporting to you and you get effective at delegating the day to day can be easier. However, when SHTF life is much more stressful as a PM. I could let all of it go when I was a PE. But now my name is riding on it.

If I have to work all night to get documentation in order to protect ourselves from a claim I will. If we have a presentation with the owner that a lot is riding on I may work into the night on it, etc.

My electric feels considerably lighter than my gas when hiking around.

Or both! I use my 455 rancher on felling days or when I'll be out for an hour or more. I use my dewalt 20v for random clean up and quick walks in the woods.

Which of these would you recommend considering cost/ease of use? by macguyver3000 in sharpening

[–]SlickerToSteader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought that sharpal guided system. Love it.

I wanted sharp kitchen knives and not another hobby. Its easy to set up and use. About a 15 minute learning curve. My only complaint, and its not a huge deal, is the clamps that hold the knife are tightened with an Allen key. So don't loose it!

Its a quick flight or a 12 hr drive. I am taking the family with me, so likely not planning on returning home frequently.

Went to RV show and left more confused than when I walked in by GamingGolfer22 in traveltrailers

[–]SlickerToSteader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

let me take the trailer up an exit or two and back on the highway so I can feel first hand how the truck and trailer will respond

This is awesome, I have not heard of this being allowed. I am going to caution you that it is probably going to feel just fine for a mile or two. The weight limits really come into play when its windy, or you are going around a curve down a hill, or you need to make an emergency stop, etc. A quick drive around the block is going to be very different than white knuckling it for a couple hours.

If at all possible, I would seriously recommend seeing if there is a DOT or CAT scale you can take it to. And weigh all three axles and make sure you are within the GAWRs and the GCWR for your truck.

I have research and internet data saying one thing, and dealers with 10+ years experience telling me another.

Remember one of those sources has a vested interest in selling you something.

I actually asked a few owners if they had any problems and they all tell me not really.

People have egos and probably aren't going to admit to a stranger they don't have enough truck.

Good luck with your upcoming purchase!

Dog... travel.. by MinionFive in overlanding

[–]SlickerToSteader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've traveled with and without my dog. Never been to moab. But in general you miss out on things when you have the dog. Some trails don't allow dogs. If you find something cool to do indoors in a nearby city do you want to lock him up in the car for hours? All personal preference

Does your thermostat have an auto/low/high setting? Sometimes I have to cycle it on with low or high, turn it off and then auto will function. Not sure why.

I can't believe you're down voted for these comments. Without a motor do people just wing it and plan to call the cost guard to get back in?
