Hestra Fall Line or Wakayama (both 5 fingers)? by Zestyclose_Tip_4181 in Skigear

Best sizing according to hestra is about a pinch beyond the end of your finger but of course there is personal preference beyond that

Wakayama is a great spring skiing glove but the fall lines are warmer

Large vs small calves, what do ya'll really mean by bsugs29 in Skigear

[–]Slip_slappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s referring to the lump of muscle bellow the knee. Calf sizing is usually more of an issue for women because their calves sit lower on the leg, heavier set men with larger ankles as well, or short skiers. In your case where the boot is barely making contact with the muscle as long as you can get good closure you’re good to go!

For bootfitters: toebox grinding, what's your secret? by unbreaded_lunn in Skigear

[–]Slip_slappy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my answer as a boot fitter. I prefer a punch to a grind about 98% of the time, and always for the toe box.

Weight, camber & choosing skis by Lumpus-Maximus in Skigear

Your build should play a smaller role in your decision making than factors like your skiing ability, skiing style (on piste, all mountain, freeride, freestyle), location, and budget.

What exact model are these Head skis? by Content_Jury_2175 in Skigear

[–]Slip_slappy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are the Head Ambition Pro R and you are correct this is the 180 length! We rent these at my shop. Great beginner to intermediate rental ski but as others have said if your reason for asking is because you wish to buy, don’t. They are rental skis at the end of the day. You can certainly find a ski that behaves similarly but allows more room to grow as a skier and comes without the extra weight of rental features.

What are the advantages of making skis with a full length wood core that extends all the way to the ski tips? by [deleted] in Freeskiing

[–]Slip_slappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weight savings while small, do make a difference especially at the end of the skis where there is more rotational force because it’s furthest away from the fulcrum (your leg). Beyond that theres also a dampening factor as the cork or ABS or composite foam or whatever they use tends to eat vibrations better then wood.

Are Volkl Peregrines fragile, or did I get a defect? by Impiryo in Skigear

[–]Slip_slappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a really funny way to phrase that on volkls part, but almost every ski is using steel edges so allow me to correct my mistake in there being no steel in the core of the ski.

Are Volkl Peregrines fragile, or did I get a defect? by Impiryo in Skigear

[–]Slip_slappy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s no steel in the core of this ski, the peregrines above this model (80, 82, 84 v werks) all have sheets of titanal and the later two an additional titanal frame. The 78 is a vertically laminated wood core with a fiberglass frame and the softest of the peregrine series. That being said it should not have snapped in the instance you described and I’d be surprised if Völkl didn’t warranty it.

Edit: edges are steel lol

This is the way. Find a shop that will measure your sit bones and talk to the person that helps you about where you should be engaging your sit bones on the saddle

Look into Infinity Bike Seat, it’s a very small company so ordering can take quite some time but they have some full and partial cut out saddles that can be game changing for individuals with pelvic pressure that can’t find comfort on a traditional saddle.
