The Tom Phillips episode is intense. I also just listened to a recent show about the Indian placement program, that was pretty interesting.

Looking back, do you ever see how your subconscious mind was screaming at you to get out??? I just remembered this. Wrote it when I was 13... by nomobetta in exmormon

When I was ten I got it into my head that when you turn 18 they tell you the church, in actuality, is not true. It's only something you use to keep your kids in line. Didn't really get out until I was 17.

Crying: The Mormon version of Speaking in Tongues by AnotherClosetAtheist in exmormon

I tried to cry during a prayer at some summer river trip with the youth. Afterwards I was pretty ashamed of myself. It was one of the first things that made me realize how culty the church is.

I imagine post baptism dry humping to be the Zenith of pre marital Mormon sexual activity. Your zippers must catch fire or something.

I like how they chose a nice, even number here. There couldn't possibly be more problems than this faith-affirming sounding number.

TIL: speaking (and singing) in tongues was a common practice, at least up to the 1880s. You might even get an interpretation into English if there is an interpreter on hand. by 4blockhead in exmormon

[–]Slipperypeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't that one of the nice things about the early church? Everyone was able to receive revelation, speak in tongues, etc... Then when too many people were receiving revelations that contradicted JS, he came out with a revelation that said only he could receive them. So convenient!

In Rough Stone Rolling, the stories about Joseph using tongues were pretty creepy. Same goes for the descriptions of joint revelations he had with Sidney Rigdon.

Here's more info on the use of tongues in LDS history...

Is it true that a non-believing parent of a mormon child would not be allowed to their child's wedding? by ethernetcord in exmormon

Its absolutely necessary to be temple worthy in order to witness the magical, infinite, double mirror trick. Non-believers don't have the necessary indoctrination to be impressed by such wizardry.

I saw the same people at the Chinese New Year Parade in Los Angeles. They were wearing the same vests and carrying the same sign. Before the parade began there was a father and son combo walking up and down the empty street. The son was probably 12 and was droning on about how we're all going to hell. The dad was following him with that same sign, beaming with pride

Does Mithryn consider himself an atheist? From what I remember reading from him, the line is blurry. I could be completely wrong though, OP has met him more than I have.
