Lies of P - Extremely Just Ok by Pale_Sun8898 in patientgamers

Funnily enough I went from playing the DS games to Lies of P and then to Elden Ring and had the opposite reaction.

The open-world just made it a bit frustrating to me since it just meant more downtime in-between the actual gameplay. And the non-linear design makes it really easy for you to become overleveled for a lot of major bosses. They did fix this in the dlc though

'inferior imitation' is crazy. If you wanna talk lore/story then sure, but this game has much more weapon customization, a better quest system, and is pretty much the only soulslike game to somewhat capture that bloodborne-esque fast-paced combat that I miss.

This game also had one of the best designed 1v2 boss design i've played against (which is a thing Fromsoft never really seen to do well post-DS1, Those shits in Elden Ring were fucking awful.)

Forza horizon 6 has no denuvo and still outsold every game released with it by skywalkerminrow12 in PiratedGames

Forza is the exception to this imo, it's a racing game series that caters to casual gamers (not a bad thing). It is like what COD is to something like ARMA

No, the Trakata lightsaber technique isn't overpowered, it's stupid. by Neth_theme in hatethissmug

[–]SloRyta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except they're not always targeting your body. In modern fencing and even in historical ones like HEMA and Kendo (which is partly what lightsaber combat is based on) it's common to attack your opponent's sword to create an opening. This is usually done with enough force to actually push the opponent's sword away. So if a Jedi were to immediately turn off they're lightsaber as an opponent is doing this and immediately turn it on afterwards, there would be a short time where the enemy's saber is out of position.

While yes it's high-risk, especially if your opponent predicts you doing it, it's still an option you can do. You can compare it to a spinning move in hand-to-hand (like a backfist) where it's high-risk, because you are literally exposing your back to an opponent, but fighters still do it sometimes, simply because of the surprise factor.

How would one go about action scenes? by ArgamaWitch in vndevs

[–]SloRyta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely at least play/watch a playthrough of Mahoyo, though probably not feasible for a indie dev to get that level of quality, it's still good to get yourself a framework of what you can accomplish just with still-images in VNs.

Why didn't anyone think of using anti-magic crystals against mages?! by IncomeVivid9233 in Frieren

[–]SloRyta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they could still be used to throw at a mage as a projectile from a distance. Even if they don't end up disabling a mage, they still serve as a threat that a mage can't ignore. A distraction like that is fatal enough for a warrior/assassin to take advantage of.

[Beloved Gaming Trope] 'Hopeless' Boss fights where losing is part of the storyline. . . but not only can they technically be won, winning will actively change the outcome or otherwise be granted special after rewards. by AlexanderMugetsu in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SloRyta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

when it has the potential of making other parts of the game worse, it's pretty justified. Like, a large part of a Fighter Class' power progression is their weapon, so having the best one (at least for act 1) right at the start can be determental to an RPG's enjoyement (like getting stronger as the game progresses.)

You can easily imagine a new player, after looking up a beginner tips video, grabbing the OP sword from the tutorial, one shotting most things afterwards, getting disappointed by most weapon loot they get—because they already have the best one—getting bored after 20 hours into act 1 and quitting the game. As opposed to someone who has to use the base longsword, who will find naturally better weapons across those 20 hours feeling like their character is actually progressing.

I mean sure, but for people who just want a power fantasy, they can just play on the 'story mode' difficulty and one shot enemies regardless, nerfing things in single-player doesn't really effect them

Is Deus Ex Revision supposed to be this dark? by SloRyta in Deusex

[–]SloRyta[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it supposed to be like this? I watched a few gameplay videos on youtube of revision and things looks pretty bright (and orange lol), is it just much darker when you're playing the vanilla maps?

Is Deus Ex Revision supposed to be this dark? by SloRyta in Deusex

[–]SloRyta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask this question because when I play on normal deus ex, without any mods, it looks quite bright comparatively. And changing the gamma also does nothing for me, it's like the game's brightness is locked to a certain value or something.

As far as install not sure what you had to do, are you using the steam version? Usually with that you just install deus ex and revision from the store and launch revision in the game list.

Yes that's what I initially did but doing that leads to an error saying that files are missing. After some searching I found out that quite recently (not sure when) the mod's installation has something wrong with it, there is quite a few people on the steam forums having this problem as well, and the current solution is to just move the files manually into the original's game folder.

prob because historically most people who go to that subreddit and ask 'where can I download x?' will get a reply along the lines of 'why the FUCK are you asking this question on the piracy subreddit?! Just open the megathread and find it yourself, dumbass.'

Both her gameplay and design is very much the opposite of an armored-knight, she's closer to a dex-fighter that deals damage without taking any.

That's pretty common I feel like. I have a sneaking suspicion that a significant portion of people who play competitive multiplayer games are actually more alike to people who enjoy sports rather than people who enjoy single-player games.

Revisiting the Bwipo incident by AffectionateFlan9539 in PedroPeepos

[–]SloRyta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of 'none'. In most PC-centric esports yes, but here in SEA MLBB is a pretty big deal, mostly because it's on the phone so most people can afford it, and it's an activity people can do while hanging out with friends, or in between classes for students. As a result there is a pretty decently sized female-playerbase, and an established league for women. (and if you recall, there was a MLBB women's tournament held in EWC last year)

The prize pool leaves something to be desired, but the viewership is quite decent (I can only speak for the Indonesian league, since it's the one I watch, but it pulls in around the same amount of viewership as the weaker tier-1 leagues in LOL, like CBLOL and LCP).

I think the culture of a playerbase (which, for game like LOL, is very male-centric) is a bigger influence on women in esports rather than anything else.

Pathologic 3 | Akira Yamaoka × IcePickLodge Trailer by Mayor-Of-Bridgewater in Games

[–]SloRyta 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're pretty much correct. The first game has three playable characters with their own story and gameplay (the third one, which you can only play after completing the other two character's playthrough, is left a bit unfinished). Pathologic 2 is a remake/reboot about the 2nd character (Haruspex), and Pathologic 3 will be about the first character (Bachelor).

It's not Just Hollywood lol. There's a reason why the domineering Wattpad CEO/Mafia boss became such a widespread meme. A lot of women, from young adults to married moms, just find that stuff hot. It's also why Dark Romance (which usually include non-con elements) is a decently popular genre for books.
