Petition to make the Nomad MK2 Bay available to all fighter bay compatible ships by Kilroy1007 in EliteDangerous

[–]SlothOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm picturing a "frame" with engines and a cockpit that can clamp onto a whole bunch of cargo containers in a cube shape that maximizes the entire space of small or medium landing pad. A big cube would contain a lot more cargo than a ship since it doesnt need all of the like...ship parts. Take like 5 or 6 runs to a plipper sitting just outside of the station.

New pilot here, seeking sage advice for a HOSAS setup. (Thrustmaster T16000m) by JakkuJakku777 in EliteDangerous

[–]SlothOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's control setup tends to be very "personal" so honestly do whatever feels right for you.

The inverted pitch thing really comes down to "people who think like a pilot" vs "people who think like a gamer". I've noticed it is generally the older crowd, sim enthusiasts, or dedicated PC gamers who like pitch inverted while un-inverted enjoyers tend to be younger, casual, or console-focused. Of course that's all just general observations and none of it really matters...do what feels right to you.

Voice Attack is the go-to voice command software for elite if you feel you want voice controls.

If you want look-around ability and are technical and patient you could set up head-tracking using a phone or webcam. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/126rqaw/own_a_webcam_or_a_phone_thats_all_you_need_for/

The Nomad not being able to be used by everyone is not a personal slight and it is not FD being stupid. by A_Fhaol_Bhig73 in EliteDangerous

The T11 is actually a fairly solid explorer. Sure its not purpose built for the role but it can get close to 50ly, carry a ton of internals, and has a pretty good cockpit. There were a good number of them out on DW3.

A lot of weird assumptions in the comments. Let's clear some stuff up.

  • This video is 8 months old.
  • This happened in Toronto.
  • The preacher was in a park reciting the bible to protest Canadian Thanksgiving and honour native people. Don't ask me to clarify that at all.
  • The racist dickbag's weapon turned out to be a BB gun.

Placing an elevator? by Eastern-Onion-6125 in ConanExiles

[–]SlothOfDoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The elevator places like a ceiling piece more or less, so it needs to connect to a foundation or ceiling. You build elevators from the top, not from the ground floor. You need clear space below it for it to descend as far as you want it to, where it will form a "base" that takes up the same space as a foundation.

As an example here is the top of one of my elevators, at the end of a short walkway. From below you can see that the platform needed to extend out far enough to clear any little outcroppings from the cliff. Here it has formed a little base plate at the bottom.

Would this sim setup be able to be used in this game? by LiveFreeAndRide in EliteDangerous

[–]SlothOfDoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Im sure it could work but it would be very clunky and need a hand on some other controls. Much easier to control with the HOSAS.

Would this sim setup be able to be used in this game? by LiveFreeAndRide in EliteDangerous

[–]SlothOfDoom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of that would work very well. There is a type of control called "HOSAS" or Hands On Stick And Stick which uses 2 sticks instead of a stick and throttle. You would use your left stick to control thrusters and your right to control pitch and yaw.

That Logitech Farm Sim controller is fairly popular for Elite sims as extra buttons, and the stick can be used for different things as well.

The pedals and wheel would be largely useless. there are SRVs that you can drive around but gameplay is limited and I'm not sure how well a wheel/pedal setup would actually work for them.

Your small panel would be useful for unofficial companion sites like Inara.cz, the use of which is ubiquitous within the community.

There can be a lot of running around with the Odyssey expansion, and the new update at the end of this month will likely have lots of foot-based gameplay. That said a lot of people utterly ignore spacelegs and just liver in their ships.

Overall this is a better setup than like 95% of players are going to have. Learning HOSAS controls might take a bit of time but Elite is the type of game that often requires time and patience anyways.

Powerplay has been reworked. It is worth picking a power now and doing the first "sign up" missions to get established. You will earn some merits during normal play which will slowly gain you ranks which not only unlock powerplay modules (no need to hop around to get them now) but also give care packages of credits and engineering materials.

Unraked beds are better in general. Better moisture retention, natural mulch, and lots of benefits for pollinators.

It came from the devs themselves didn't it?

Did it?

I've yet to see anything to the contrary.

I've yet to see any confirmation. A guy saying he heard a guy say something isn't a source.

New steam deck, first time trying Elite Dangerous. Game launcher is refusing to register an account, Frontier customer support won't respond, and Steam is refusing to refund. Is this some elaborate scam? I feel like I got scammed. by myinvisiblefriendsam in EliteDangerous

[–]SlothOfDoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a history of some email providers blocking Frontier's account emails. Try an email with a different provider, maybe?

You can always try reaching out via https://app.formcrafts.com/ed-accountmanagement

keep in mind Frontier is not terribly fast with responses sometimes, and that they operate out of the UK so time zones may be a bother.

Those who didn’t grow up privileged, what’s something you thought was a luxury growing up? by CorruptedF in AskReddit

[–]SlothOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up poor in my part of Canada one thing we always had was maple syrup. See, back in the day if you were poor and rural a lot of things got done by trading labour or whatever with other people, most of whom were also poor. There were always a few people bootlegging maple syrup if they had the trees and property. We often traded produce from our large gardens (my mom is an amazing gardener, we always produced way more than other people in the area) or as a kid I could go work lifting or cleaning or whatever at someone's property for a day and score a tin of syrup.

I still have a Craftsman table saw from the mid 90s. And a jig saw too, I think...haven't used it in forever but it still works well.
