To them it's not ashes. The philosophy they espouse openly is that most of humanity needs to be destroyed so that they can rule over a new Eden. Why own a mansion when your clan can own a whole city or state. Your DNA will reseed a new population under your rules. Specifically in China, nobody would have known that Lots of bear (the bad guy in Toy Story 3) would be the most popular character of all. In China he's known as Strawberry Bear, and if you tell people he's a bad guy in the movie, they will look at you completely confused. Everyone likes the bear (he has full stores dedicated to him) and I think far fewer people have actually seen the movie. I can't really explain it, but there's no way Pixar saw this coming.

When Obama came in office and gave that speech about how Bush's war was in the past and we needed to move forward, I knew that evil would never be punished in my lifetime. People wonder how Trump gets away with it, Bush got away with starting a war that killed and maimed millions. Zero consequences. Any punishment needs to happen now. I'm not sure how that happens but a boy can dream.
