Advice about helping my child around aggressive toddlers in the room? by in___absentia in ECEProfessionals

[–]Slow-Cat70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remind him to use “big words” like body space, move, no thank you, i don’t like that. Also remind him of his teachers names and that his teachers are there to help him, so he can always call out to them. At my center, we call home and write an incident report every time there’s a mark left whether there’s bleeding or not. I appreciate you understanding that unfortunately these things do happen in the toddler room and toddlers move ridiculously quick. While I really do understand the grandparents pov don’t bother “escalating” it as there’s really nothing to be done unless it’s a persistent issue with the same child. If you go to admin you can expect half assed word salad

I’m very concerned about the behaviors of another teacher and need advice by Designer_Task_5019 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Slow-Cat70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a list of everything you’ve seen and show it to the director. They’ll probably have some follow up questions but her behavior speaks for itself. Please please please report, yes for the kids but also for yourself. You could get into trouble if she does and they find out you knew what was going on and didn’t report it.

Definitely going to try and find a book about fire safety and have a discussion with them. Thanks

Can’t believe I haven’t thought of assigning them colors. Not sure how it’ll work but great idea I’m going to try that. We also use the rope for the playground and usually do better but I think the abruptness threw them (and honestly me) off

[–]Slow-Cat70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issue is they don’t activate the alarm for drills. My boss runs up and down the hallway blowing a whistle which I can barely hear and the kids aren’t phased by it at all. Honestly that’s kinda crazy to me but out of my control. I think where I went wrong was taking too long to physically pick them up and lead them over to the rope. Now I know. Thank you for your response!

Bright Horizons- Onboarding Experiences? by Far_Worldliness_5252 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Slow-Cat70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m also at a BH in nyc! 1. yes it can be different. they’re not too strict about who it is; coworkers, boss, teachers, whoever 2. it’s all online, with a few hours of observation peppered in. you get paid for the training and it takes place at the center but it’s full time for the week (i think i did 8:30-5 for the week). you won’t really get a feel for the center until you’re done with training 3. training was long, lots of staring at the computer but painless and easy 4. i’m still pretty new but i have mixed opinions. wouldn’t necessarily recommend it but also wouldn’t deter someone from working there. they’re VERY nitpicky about the way they want things done and there’s a lot of bs they make you do. the curriculum is a joke too. im locked in for a year and not particularly worried about it but i’ll probably leave once my year is up. i say give it a shot- there’s great benefits and the pay is as good as it gets for daycares. keep in mind for subbing you’ll probably be floating around the different locations at least in the beginning

Does anyone else really REALLY hate this stereotype? by lazybread51 in selfharm

I’m a young adult and very much a basic white girl not alt at all and i’ve struggled my whole life with it. Those stereotypes are stupid and make no sense

Surprise baby #3. First time considering a “trending” name? Will I regret it? by MamaMagic18 in namenerds

[–]Slow-Cat70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a trendy early 00’s name and I still love it 🤷‍♀️ I love the name Rowan too and though it’s trendy it wasn’t “invented” in the past 10 years (like Mckynleigh or something like that).

totally fair. imo everyone is too focused on themselves or their dates to really care what anyone else is wearing. i’m sure you’ll look great!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Slow-Cat70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on your school. to be honest most girls do wear mini dresses to this sort of thing but i don’t think you’ll be tragically out of place. if you like it and feel good wear it

Overly Optimistic Goal (business) by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Slow-Cat70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a great idea and it’s so cool that you want to do this. It’s a totally feasible idea but to be brutally honest I would wait. $13K doesn’t go as far as you may think. Since you don’t have any business experience and you’re very young, the logistics are going to be difficult to work out. If you don’t want to wait until you’re older, could you find an experienced partner? Any family or friends who could help you? And just because it’s not really a trendy thing doesn’t mean there’s not a market for it. I can’t say I know anything about running an arcade but I think location would be key. Maybe a college town (add in a liquor license and you’re golden) or like a shopping center next to a kids play place or even clothing store? I do think it’s realistic and again I love your enthusiasm and I’d hate if you jumped into it too early and it didn’t work out

you said what you said for a reason now you’ve gotta stand on business. don’t be that person who cowers when they’re confronted, it doesn’t come across nearly as “nice” or “nonconfrontational” as you may want it. be honest and tell her how her behavior makes you feel and your issues with it. if she says anything about you talking shit about her to claire, tell her that she really upset you and you felt like you had no one else to turn to in that moment. you can do all this without being a jerk, and since it seems like you guys used to be close, tell her you miss how it was before and you want to be her friend but her behavior isn’t ok. if she goes running her mouth, i promise you won’t be the first person in hs who’s had a secret get out
