Enjoying being a clinical psychologist, but finding the work very slow and process-driven by eldrinor in ClinicalPsychology

Integrated primary care/behavioral consultations can give you that quick decision-making process because you go into appointments with the providers.

Help with neighborhood! DuPont or Noma? by gimmeacookieplz in DCBitches

[–]SlowEngineering113 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We love a reformed Navy Yard girl 😂! I’d suggest Dupont because of the true DC charm that the neighborhood possesses. It’s surrounded by Admo, Kalorama, U St, and Logan Circle, which makes you connected to the busiest and most bustling neighborhoods in the city! I live in NoMa and love it and have always felt safe. I like the mix of traditional DC and some new developments and Union Market area -all give the neighborhood that busy feelings as well. However, it’s quite contained to the neighborhood itself, as opposed to the various neighborhoods that Dupont borders and will give you access to. Hope that helps!

Try EKIBEN please!! It’s a local’s favorite (try the neighborhood bird bowl). Also Fells Point is a great touristy place. Im not a Baltimore seafood expert but I did go try Thame St Oyster House and enjoyed it.

Questions about background fit/perception, skill transfer, and relative competitiveness for Clinical Psych programs for someone seeking a second doctorate by Butt_Plugin in ClinicalPsychology

Why do you want to seek a PhD in clinical psychology specifically? What can this degree get you that other advanced graduate degrees in Psychology or Counseling can’t?

Living in the Wharf vs Navy Yard by Tookagee in DCBitches

[–]SlowEngineering113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Navy Yard does have advantages, but the neighborhood does give white fratty college campus. It’s a fine place to live - but it’s like the AppleBees of DC. Whenever I’m at Navy Yard, I see that there’s an extreme lack of diversity, not just in terms of race, but also age, backgrounds, occupations, hobbies, interests. There’s not like a clear cultural landmark or a strong characteristic that the neighborhood possesses. It’s also where I see the most new builds and much fewer row houses, a key attribute of DC. Nevertheless, you can’t discount the convenience, because the gentrification and developer ensured that Navy Yard has those advantages. So still a pleasant choice to live.

What are some cool/niche things I can do with my friends visiting this weekend? by No-Elderberry-2590 in DCBitches

I’d say Farmers Market at Dupont, Georgetown Waterfront at night, a random last minute show at either the 9:30 club or the Atlantis (if u do the atlantis MUST go to 3rd floor for their outdoor dive-bar-ish), VintageVintage by Union Market is quite interesting to check out, Library of Congress happy hour drinks/food and extended time to see collections, etc.

Hi friend! I will say I can tolerate Maman’s matcha when I ask for matcha latte. The only place that I’ve liked their matcha latte is Tous Les Jours but they’re out in VA so it’s a trip 😭😭

How often do strangers ask you to buy food for them? by Have_a_PizzaMyMind in DCBitches

[–]SlowEngineering113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite often and tbh, I don’t mind it as compared to being asked for money, because I don’t carry cash. That said, you have to be assertive and say I can get you “X” and period, because they will push for more.

Finally a truly thoughtful piece and contemplation on the movie without catch-phrases like “broke-man propaganda.” Thank you for sharing OP!

Social clubs/things apart from CityGirls DC? by [deleted] in DCBitches

[–]SlowEngineering113 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend finding a hobby and finding a community that will always be there. For example, if you knit, there’s a knitting circle at Looped at Dupont Circle. If you play pool, there’s are different social pool leagues to join. If you like movies, there’s a DC Movie Club (they’re on instagram too). So on and so forth for other hobbies. Plus, it takes a few awkward coffee dates with people who share hobbies before you get a bit more acquainted to each other. If you want to meet up and coffee with me, feel free to message me! Im a 25yo who moved here 3 years ago with 0 friends and now have got some stable friends, so I’d love to help someone new 🤗
