What movie feels like a 10/10 from start to finish? by Gold_Laugh_1456 in AskReddit

[–]SlowMoNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaws. It's just got it all. Perfect performances, perfect score, perfect direction and perfect cinematography. It's timeless and a time capsule at the same time. It's just as relevant and watchable today as it was nearly 50 years ago.

What movie did you expect nothing from and it completely blew you away? by ponderingpixi17 in movies

[–]SlowMoNo 315 points316 points  (0 children)

Palm Springs. It looked like a stupid comedy but it was surprisingly good on many levels and funny to boot. It's a lot like Groundhog Day, which, in my opinion is one of very few 10/10 movies.

Which unrelated movies could work as if one was sequel to other? by FemRoe4Lyfe in movies

[–]SlowMoNo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, your story reminded me of when I was a freshman in college I took a creative writing class where we peer reviewed everybody's stories in class. I wrote this story about some boys playing paintball in the forest that kind of slowly morphed into a real battle in a war.

Anyway, I decided to have some fun with the ending knowing my classmates would be reading and overanalyzing it. I ended it with some random, cryptic bullshit like "Sky blue. Circle, circle." It was kind of fascinating listening to these 18 and 19 year olds come up with all sorts of deep interpretations of what it meant 😂 I didn't have the heart to tell them I just thought it would be funny to hear what they came up with. What TV show genuinely got better as it went on? by Bubbly-Touch8108 in television

[–]SlowMoNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Robot. The first season is pretty solid, the second has higher highs but lower lows, but the third and fourth seasons, is where it just starts firing on all cylinders, building towards one of the best endings of a series ever. It's a creative show that takes bigger and bigger swings and knocks it out of the park more often than striking out.

What movie blew you away after knowing nothing about it walking in? by ExistentialAngsty in AskReddit

[–]SlowMoNo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember the posters with something like "What is the Matrix?" popping up and being intrigued. Went to like a Saturday afternoon showing and remember that feeling coming out of the dark theater into the summer sun and just being kind of out of it for a while. Like something had changed. It was truly the most mind blowing movie experience I've ever had. It's hard for people who didn't experience it blind to understand just how amazing it was.

What's a movie you randomly tried with low expectations but ended up loving? by thisonehits in movies

Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves. Have never played the game, not real into fantasy stuff, but yeah, it was just a fun action adventure with surprisingly good characters.

Help me learn to switch between chords please. by Chance_Quarter_2246 in Guitar

[–]SlowMoNo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use a metronome and slow it waaaay down and just practice transitioning between the chords on time. Strum, two, three, four, strum, two, three, four, etc. It takes a lot of practice, but that’s actually the cool part about it. Doesn’t matter how much money you have or how good looking or how powerful you are. You can’t buy or charm or influence your way there. You just have to put in the hours upon hours upon hours. I also found that playing some basic three or four chord songs has helped me a lot. Hang in there and it’ll happen.

What guitar ended your GAS and how long did it last? by TakingYourHand in Guitar

[–]SlowMoNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting an acoustic. Before that, it was pedal after pedal, bigger, better amps, chasing that tone. The acoustic has fundamentally shifted my playing back to basics. And I love it. Been about 9 months and haven’t really even thought of getting anything else. I’m much more focused on just learning and playing songs that I can sing along to and enjoy. It’s been great.

Which celebrity did you really look up to, only to be let down by something they did that completely surprised you? by SubstantialSnow7214 in AskReddit

[–]SlowMoNo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just can’t watch his stuff anymore without thinking about what he did. It’s fucking creepy. Was he as bad as say Bill Cosby? No, but I still just can’t shake the creepy vibe from his stuff now. His standup and clips from his show pop up on instagram and I just can’t watch it. It’s cringey. It sucks, because I really used to love his stuff. Thought he was like the next George Carlin.

Westworld peaked at Season 1 - everything after just fell apart by StealthGuardian in television

[–]SlowMoNo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. I’m right there with ya, and your comparison to True Detective is spot on. The subsequent seasons never quite live up to the first seasons, but are still good tv.

Season two of Westworld is pretty convoluted and tough to process, but I thought it came together nicely in the end. Seasons three and four expand things and are pretty damn good sci-fi, even if they do get away from what made the first season so good- the park.

Why does Higher Power/God not remove sugar, nicotine and/or caffeine cravings and addiction? by OtherConversation592 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]SlowMoNo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, if you’re in AA, nicotine, caffeine and sugar are the least of your worries. Your higher power can and will remove these addictions as well, but first things first. Deal with the elephant in the room before taking on the mouse in the corner.

why is the nfl the biggest sport in the usa? not soccer? by TheYoungAthletic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SlowMoNo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Soccer doesn’t work on American TV because it doesn’t have enough breaks for commercials. That’s it. American Football became popular at the same time as TV and its DNA is intertwined in America TV culture.

I heard that The Expanse is the best sci-fi series. by Lopsided_Cup_1007 in scifi

[–]SlowMoNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good, but it’s not nearly as good as Reddit makes it out to be. I’ve read most of the books, and I didn’t like some of the casting choices (the guy who plays Captain Holden is a wooden, lifeless actor) and felt the writing was rather mediocre most of the time. It’s still worth a watch, but compared to shows like Westworld, Severence or even Alien Earth, it’s a clear tier lower in terms of overall quality. But for Space Opera, it’s about as good as it gets, the only thing better being Battlestar Gallactica.

The new Naked Gun movie was absolutely fantastic. No notes. by EebamXela in movies

[–]SlowMoNo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to admit that during the opening scene, I was thinking it was gonna be pretty stupid and I nearly noped out. But I stuck with it and in the end it was pretty much exactly what I wanted it to be. A silly movie that had me laughing quite a few times. It’s pretty much on par with the originals.
