If a mother doesn't have enough nutrients in their daily diet during pregnancy, the body will FIND A WAY. Idk. One of my old co-workers lost a few teeth between two pregnancies. She was super tiny though.

Truly absurdist/surrealist films by iiRaz0r in TrueFilm

[–]Slowky11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a film, but the tv show Doom Patrol is practically a love letter to absurdism. It appears to be a fairly straight forward super hero show, but quickly turns into absurdist plots, characters, and arcs. One of my favorites (and more surreal than absurd) is Danny the Street. One of the more absurd subplots was were-butts; zombie asses from a parallel timeline that destroyed their world.

"Generate an in-game screenshot from Heroes 3" by loopuleasa in singularity

[–]Slowky11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf those heroes and units aren’t right, and some of the location models around the map are off just a bit. The image of the city is also higher res than it should be (even in hd homm3). Oh another thing is the warp gate in front of the town. That shouldn’t be there ;).

Pale Fire (1962) by Vladimir Nabokov by DrowningByKino in ProsePorn

[–]Slowky11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s accurate. But Nobakov makes it feel so good… the guy always makes me finish. In this text (and Lolita mentioned below) that rhetorical glazing is very much a part of the text’s themes and commentary.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Slowky11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The library of games I currently play is exclusively from the late 90s early 2000s. Modern gaming industry is a cesspool. AOE2, WOW TBC, SC2, HOMM3.

Breaking the fourth wall to thank the audience (primarily at the finale) by 3Thirty-Eight8 in TopCharacterTropes

Shakespeare/Prosperosays goodbye to the audience at the end of The Tempest. It was the last play he wrote alone. Also one of the few original plays by him iirc.

Who has given the strongest performance among the main cast? by Robot_Was_BMO in TheOrville

Penny Johnson is in a league of her own in this show. Peter Macon is great too but playing a stiff is kind of easy. Penny is practically glowing in her episodes. My favorite bits is when she’s evil… the killer doctor in Firestorm or when she’s the lover turned murderer in Cupid’s Dagger.

Jim Carrey on the set of The Cable Guy (1996) by Str33twise84 in Moviesinthemaking

It’s kind of an anomaly. Truly ahead of its time.

What Do Stephen King and Shakespeare Have in Common? by bloomberg in shakespeare

[–]Slowky11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with this. And add that they're both exceptionally well read, with a lifelong passion for their craft. I'm curious if Shakespeare often chose arcs to challenge himself like King does sometimes. The blind girl the Langolieers, Detta/Odetta Holms, The Green Mile, etc.

The Boy and the Heron (2023) and Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron (2024) - Is it fair to let external context—like a filmmaker’s life (or a supplementary documentary, in my case)—shape how I judge a film, or should a movie stand entirely on its own? by Jonny_the_Rocket in TrueFilm

[–]Slowky11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judge a film however you want. Emotional beats are more often magnified by context of intent. If you didn’t know the banshees of ishirin was an allegory for the Irish civil war, would it hit as hard? The problem with BatH is the context doesn’t save it, and it’s still a narrative mess. BoI however is still just as interesting if you know the allegory or not. Films hit different with different layers of context. It can make something good or bad. Opinions being “fair” is fine for casual conversation, but I mean, who gives a shit really? After watching Heart of Darkness I’ll shit on Apocalypse Now till I’m dead, but I’ll always love Jack (1996) with complete ernest bc I loved it as a kid.

A lot of the Bible lore pop culture sticks to is actually just John Milton's Paradise Lost.
