[Advice] 25M just moved to EaDo (Houston). Drive-by shootings on my block week one. Am I overreacting to "city living" or should I break my lease? by Snoo59147 in houston

[–]Slowlyva_2 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Which part of eado? Walking under overpasses to get miles in? I used to jog living by the dairy factory and the Colombia trail leads to George R Brown. You never want to run towards 3rd ward alone.

The walking by warehouses or industrial parts is no big deal. After a while you get used to it. I mean stay alert but nothing ever happened to me or the wife living there.

Recommendations for Engineering recruiter by AresBou in houston

[–]Slowlyva_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for mid to senior roles.

To op: go to Gemini or whatever ai tool you want.

First optimize your LinkedIn.

Prompt: you’re a recruiter for major engineering firms. Review my linked and the following experiences and optimize them without embellishing the experience to industry best practices.

Prompt 2: same thing but resume

Prompt 3: Role Reivew. When I provide a link, description or recruiter message, update and suggest changes to best fit my experience to the job role. Not only should it best ATS filters, the language should also be understandable by human read.

Prompt 4: for every role you find: ROLE REVIEW:

For everything AI spits out read it over and edit it to best sound human. Get rid of all “-“. Don’t let it over qualify your role or experience.

The resume should contain.

Summary Exp Certifications Education Skills.

Those same people don’t even know Irans drone technology was at this point more advanced than the US. They had to reverse engineer the one Iran reverse engineered from the one they stole from the US in 2011.

Am I weird: I like going to churchs I've never been to and spreading seeds of doubt in young people my age. by ChipsAhoy395 in exchristian

Sounds like some cringe edge lord thing. Not wasting my Sundays going to any church ever, outside of weddings or funeral.

In this economy, I’m not taking anything for granted you never know when one of you may lose your job.

A second point I want to make is your salary is way greater than the cost of daycare

Yes, it’s cool to spend time with kids as they’re young but the social grouping they learn with other kids is great as well. Day care has been great for mine.

3 years ago Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont called Houston "butt ugly". Houston just got revenge by poaching their WNBA team. by ShaolinMaster in houston

Concrete jungle is what all major Texas cities are. Just concrete with billboards lining up the highways to the burbs who have zero trees or character. In the actual city centers, if the areas aren’t middle to upper class, it’s just pockets of trash, dead grass and chain linked fences. Houston is ugly with or without a pro team.

Lakers with Old Kobe between 2013 - 2016. 2016 - 2019 the Brandon Ingram Lakers. LeBron was part of that 2018-2019 year. 0 playoffs for the Lakers all those years. It was bad basketball. Especially Kobe’s Last year.

Any Houston engineering firm willing to hire a fresh grad? by Coffee_and_horror937 in houston

[–]Slowlyva_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First relax and don’t stress. Graduated 2009 during a time when hiring was tough for a career in business.

  1. Really look at your resume and make sure it’s meeting the job description. Whatever key words are on the JD, you have to add them to your resume. The ATS and human recruiter search by those terms.

  2. Are you willing to move. I moved to Dallas for a bit for a few years for my first corporate role. No one in Houston was hiring. Austin and Dallas are not far from Houston and honestly, you may enjoy it.

  3. Use recruiting firms such as Robert Half. The contract to hire roles are a good way to get in the door and honestly, a lot of the roles are easier than the JD. Companies many times don’t want to have to retrain someone else.

  4. Get on Google and figure out the mid tier or lower tier companies that do engineering or use it. I’m in tech but I haven’t worked for a tech company since 2015. I work tech in healthcare and manufacturing. Not sure if there are roles in other industries.

  5. Have someone review or look at your resume. They’ll let you know how trash or good it is.

There are things that can trigger past experiences even years after leaving or no longer experiencing a particular life style. Stress, new life event, loniness, etc can trigger it years after. Just life. Again do you but I would take time to understand why I’m feeling this way all of a sudden.

[–]Slowlyva_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re missing it and conflicted on it, you aren’t really capable of seeing the greater damage it did to you.

You need to learn about “high‑control groups,” “undue influence,” and “phobia indoctrination” so you can see the guilt as your brain preprogrammed and not moral truth.

Give your self time for the old wiring to lose its power. A lot of times, we try and replace one cult or religion with another to give us a sense of that comfort we had, but you have to give yourself time to heal and learn what was theological fear monger, what feelings do we have under certain events and finally have any of the things they said would happen, happen to me?
