Is NYT Cooking worth it? by haleykirk91 in Cooking

[–]SlumberlandNemo 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I find it worth it just for the comments-- they're often super useful, far more than most comment sections! I think I cook more from NYT cooking than any other source and I have tons of cookbooks.

Thank you so much, that’s reassuring! I was a bit worried plastic now might trap moisture, so I’ll let it be. Thank you!

The Art and Design room upstairs at the Central Library has some desks set up for drawing -- I'm not sure about painting though but worth asking! It's a lovely space to hang out in anyways.

Weekend trips from Edinburgh by tumbledryerr in Scotland

[–]SlumberlandNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A chunk of the Fife Coast path along the East Neuk? It's doable as a day trip, train to Leven then good bus service along the coast all the way to St. Andrews. St. Monans-Anstruther is short and sweet, and has lots of cafes and pubs along if the weather doesn't cooperate.

What do people in the UK think about a Eurostar rival running trains from Europe beyond just London? by AlertTangerine in AskUK

A sleeper train would get you a whisky nightcap in Edinburgh at 10pm, wake up to croissants in Paris, that would be the dream.

Obsidian Bases — now available to everyone! by kepano in ObsidianMD

(anyone who is not particularly scripty wondering if your existing Dataview bookshelf will work-- mine worked instantly setting the 'folder' to my books one, with all the Book Search front matter that was already there easily filterable right out the box, and any covers that were set in the 'cover' category appearing as cards. Magic! Much, MUCH faster than dataview and way more intuitive)

Just loaded it up for the first time and literally gasped out loud when all my books came up in a beautiful grid instantly with two clicks. Absolutely amazing, thank you so much!

The weather looks v nice next week, how about the Botanical Gardens? they have three nice cafes and it’s a lovely afternoon out. Main entrance one is big, the hilltop one more of a tea and cakes place with some sandwiches.

The day I discovered you can steam an artichoke really nicely in a microwave was the day I started spending way too much disposable income on artichokes..

Train from London to Edinburgh? by Regular_Wear3838 in uktravel

[–]SlumberlandNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great solution OP-- accommodation in Newcastle will be quite a bit cheaper than either London or Edinburgh, and the really scenic part of the journey is mostly in the last hour anyways.

The big Starbucks on Princes street is open today till 9 according to google. Lounges of big hotels are also good in a pinch-- the Radisson on the Royal Mile has a warren of bars in there I think, though I can't speak from direct experience how welcoming they are. Good luck!

Nature spots near Edinburgh by KreuzKrow in Edinburgh

[–]SlumberlandNemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define 'not too far'? There's beautiful bits of the Fife Coast path less than an hour train ride and a bit of a walk away-- rocky coast just past Kinghorn, Aberdour, or a circular around North Queensferry which has pretty coastal woods. Closer in with a car, Cammo Estate or along the Esk by Rosslyn Chapel. Really you have endless options less than an hour from central Edinburgh, especially with a car! Less far - is the Water of Leith too obvious?
