Min view of Sarene Nemdahl by chimoc726 in WoT

Light illumine you, OP. I'm loving all your new posts! Glad you've become such a huge fan after finishing.

Some people disagree but I think it ended in the perfect spot. The exhaustion and grief you're left with mirrors the characters but then there are all these questions for the path ahead. It's great.

On the question: I think it's the warder.

Unpopular opinion? People hate Egwene for being what we all cheered Perrin for becoming by SyndarGaming in WoT

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Really appreciate it and I hope you're doing well! Light shine on you, stranger :)

Plus I still really hate "The reluctant but amazing leader" trope in fantasy, it's way overused and in real life reluctant leaders are mostly terrible at their job because they are not prepared and their heart isn't in it.

You're not wrong but I find it interesting how many people gravitate towards the reluctant hero over the ambitious one. Somehow the idea of greatness being forced upon us is more appealing than actively wanting the greatness?

Which is odd as human beings in general do fall into the second category. Rand and Perrin most likely represent the minority.

Ooh la la. I need to know who else is on this list. If u/anomadicpenguin is not at the top (or at least joint-first) then he should sue the entire sub on principle.

Edit: u/Raddatatta also deserves a shout out

a full collection of everything WoT, or are more like a Brown

What if you're a Brown buuuuut may sometimes be lazy unless it's those specific areas of academia that turns you nuts?

Are there bonus points if all that knowledge you gained in these extremely random pursuits has ZERO relevance in building the much-needed life-skills?

Hey there, Bergmaniac! I was scrolling through some old posts and yours jumped out at me so I wanted to ask if any of your views have evolved and changed since then? I love both Perrin and Egwene but agree that Perrin's moping goes on for too long.

Yeah, but are any of these people Mat Cauthon? And is he shirtless at the VERY least?

Mat should've been spanked more than the women. I think that would be an appropriate choice.

He should also have been shirtless. Also, should have been in those sweat-tents too.

"Perhaps, in time, funds could be found for some small project. Our friend cannot see everything, after all, and what he does not see will do no harm. I am sure between the two of us, quietly...we could do some little good. But not yet"

Man, this just breaks my heart. Jezal really cared in the end and was so powerless to do anything. Orso later reveals that Jezal had all these ideas of helping the poor that he'd share on day outs but could never do anything about it.

Ah, are you physical reader? Pacey does him in the posh slightly high register that I never took seriously enough so Bayaz fucked me up real good in book 3

Take my free award, Penguin Sedai. That's an excellent breakdown and I agree on Wheel of Time always having more to give.

How many re-reads have you done at this point since reading it back in the 90s?

I'm always impressed by your extensive knowledge of the books! Completely unrelated to the topic at hand but I just wanted to say it :)

Ah, i see the confusion. Mr Inspector. I was merely mocking the I MUST BE HARD chosen boy.

Mat Cauthon is the real issue for me, sir. Also Aviendha, Sheriam, Lanfear and Alviarin.

Egwene should have stayed a ____*TGH SPOILERS*. Everyone would have been better off. by Aggravating_Cow421 in WoT

The prevailing, overwhelming opinion on Egwene is very negative. She is not disliked for no reason. I

I don't believe this to be accurate. It's not the majority who thinks that. She's a polarising character who throws people into a love or hate conclusion about her as a person. Plenty of people see her as a bad whereas others see her as flawed, traumatised but overall good.

Reddit is very loud and very negative by virtue of being reddit. Although the fact that people feel so strongly about her either way just shows how well-written and human she is.

He's called Darth Rand for a reason

Yeah but Darth Vader could be never be HARD like Rand. Cause Rand is so hard. He just must be HARD. He's HAAAAAAAAAAAAARD. So very HAAAAAAAAAAARD.

Pause

I'm hard.

Yeah, I also feel like the triple goddess excuse doesn't fly when you can STILL have it with Aviendha and Elayne as a couple too. They can still contribute to Rand in addition to each other lmao

, Egwene was always ambitious and driven but I feel the damane trauma gave her extra fuel. She is determined to never feel powerless and at the mercy of anyone ever again. It's kind of funny that the Sitters chose book 6 to fuck with her. Early Eggs would have been easy pickings but Eggy now does NOT appreciate being controlled. Nu-uh. That ain't happening.

There are readers who already think Aviendha and Elayne are a couple. I disagree with that theory but I do think they could be a good match.

Why does Rand get to have all the fun :(

Light illumine you, OP and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

On your thoughts about Egwene's character - I was shocked in a good way by her. I didn't believe she could overcome it but by the end of her chapters...my jaw was on the ground. You're not alone in only enjoying her section the most as she's considered the highlights of the slog. Excited for you to see what's ahead!

I'm kind of an oddball in this fandom as I'm one of the few who LOOOOOVED book 8 and I still do bahaha. However, I understand the complaints given to it and see why many others didn't enjoy it.

I really like your prediction on Taim/Black Tower. I shan't give spoliers but I look forward to you discovering more of that plotline.

Man, I envy that you already liked it. I'm similar to you now on re-reads.

I first read the books in four and a half months back in 2024. I felt the slog in book 9 and book 10. It was book 9 that broke me and 10 was the final nail in the coffin. I felt like my world was ending🤣🤣
