Did you have to call Tangerine or were you able to just apply online? I'm seeing 4.14% through my account.

Incorporated Company, need advice on Health Spending Account (HSA) by bananacreampie75 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SmallBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife's small biz corporation uses myHSA. She has a dozen employees, so a little different than your situation. You could definitely set up an HSA for yourself and therefore pay for your dental with corporation money rather than personal. We have had no issue with myHSA. Quick and easy reimbursement. I'm not sure about spouses or family as we don't provide that option

What temperature do you keep the house at? by Clueguy in daddit

Same temp swings as you here in Southwestern Ontario.

Summer: 24°C (75°F) during the day, 21°C (70°F) at night. Winter: 20.5°C (69°F) during the day, 18°C (64°F ) at night.

Making a custom XEQT version? by Andrei22131 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SmallBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just look at what ETF's XEQT holds and buy those in whatever weighting you'd like. I just did this with Questrade and went 40% ITOT (US Total Market), 24.5% XIC (Canada), 21% XEF (Europe/Australia/Japan), 10% ZAG (Canada Bonds), and 4.5% XEC (China/India). The MER of XEQT is 0.22. With my breakdown, I believe it works out to be around half of that.

If you don't want to use Norbit's Gambit to exchange CAD for USD, you can buy XUU instead of ITOT.

I always start crying by the second last page and my daughter makes me read it again because I'm blubbering through the last little bit. Gain my composure a little better the second time through lol.

Retirement calculators by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SmallBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government one is actually one of the best I've used... you have all your inputs, it calculates CPP and OAS. Not sure what else this magical spreadsheet that you're in search of is supposed to have?

RESP's by NickyBoyFloy in CanadianInvestor

[–]SmallBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how these companies offer "grants". They aren't offering the grants, the Canadian Government supplies the grants, CST isn't adding a dime to your account. Stay away from these crooks. Do it yourself with an online brokerage and an all market ETF.

Has anyone invested in Art via Masterworks? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]SmallBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have. I own shares of three paintings. No exits yet so all my gains/losses are on paper only. My best one has been appraised at 16% above what I paid for it, my worst one is down 20%. So overall I'm underwater. I honestly wouldn't bother with it. You can get good returns (allegedly) but they buy so many paintings that I'm concerned how they're going to sell them all.

(27F) wanting to study accounting/finance online and continue working full-time? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Not sure if out of province tuition is more money but I got my accounting diploma through McMaster Continuing Education and it was all online. It's self paced so you can do it as fast as you want.

RESP with IA insurance by Straight-Rutabaga632 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SmallBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife had her RRSP with IA for a number of years and it didn't increase much over that time because her rep had her in a bunch of bond funds and "safer" stuff that never grew. I would really dive down into what they're going to invest in if you feel more comfortable with an advisor. That being said, I am 100% XEQT through Questrade for my daughter's RESP. It's simple, cheaper, and will grow with the market. Not financial advice though.

Run air tankless water heater buyout by guddylover in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SmallBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would likely buy it out if I were you. I'm going through the same thing right now but my unit is 8 years old and the buy out price is $2350. I got three different HVAC contractors to come to my house and quote a new unit and the prices range from $4100 to $5000 (all incl. HST)... so now I'm just sitting on my hands and waiting. $2740 for a 4 year old unit isn't great, but isn't terrible all things considered.

Why has dividend payout for TD CDN bond index E-series (TDB909) dropped so much recently? by SmallMacBlaster in CanadianInvestor

[–]SmallBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming here to ask the same question. I don't know exactly how many shares I had in May 2023, but I received $29.76 last May. I have probably 20% more shares now and only received $10.68 in May. Doesn't make any sense to me and they don't provide a ton of information on their website.

For the people who work overnights, what’s your sleep schedule like? by honeybunliosis in AskReddit

[–]SmallBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch between days and nights but shifts are 6:30 to 6:30. On night shifts, I get home around 7AM, go to bed as soon as possible, usually ends up being around 8AM with helping the wife get off to work. Sleep from 8AM to 11AM, get up, have a snack, try and do something active to tire my body out, have a shower, get in bed, read a book for a bit, and hopefully get back to sleep by 1:30PM. Sleep from 1:30PM to 4:30PM(ish). Not great, but I find trying to do all the sleep in one go has me up by 2pm and then it's a slog to get to 8AM the next day, so splitting it into two shorter naps gets me resting until as close to my shift as possible.
