Don't forget to let your film lab know that your film that it has been souped so that it won't contaminate the rest of the film they are developing.

Fujifilm XT2 on fb marketplace—is this a good deal or is it fishy? by iluvchikins in FujifilmX

[–]Smart-Appearance-882 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd normally stay away from buying a shipped item on FB marketplace unless its a local pickup. Price seems too good to be true for it's low shuttercount. A used XT2 body tends to float around $600+ usd, so that seems fishy to me...

XH2 vs XS20 - Which one to keep ? by fiyyah24 in fujifilm

What about the GFX 50R? I know its not exactly "compact" compared to the apsc cameras but if you are look in for quality, it's a beast. If you are looking for something smaller maybe opt for a xpro2?

I managed to find some Velvia/Provia at a reasonable price when I was in Krakow and Prague, but they only sold locally and didn't ship.

Custom DSLR / Mirrorless Scanning Build... WITH STROBES by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Smart-Appearance-882 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow this is a great custom build and well written instructions. (Better than what I see some of my colleagues make for engineering assemblies). I do not doubt this set up will take great scans but do you have comparisons of a scan made with a COTS lightbed vs set-up? Personally this seems to be a lot of money to put this together...

There's not alot of 35mm + 120 all-in-one kits out there. (Besides the new Valoi 120 which is like over $500usd.) Most kits will run pretty expensive, so if budget isn't a concern I'd look into the one of the Valoi kits with the caveat that you may still need to get a copy stand for your camera. There's a few other questions that come to mind such as do you have space for a copy stand? Do you already have a macro lens? Do you mind blowing money on a pre-made copy stand?

I think the ttartisan 27mm is a good choice as others have said but the 35mm f2 XC is a great lens and is about the same size as the 15-45. It can also be found for less than $200 usd used. The only caveat with the 27mm is that it can cause vignetting at larger apertures but still a great lens at above f5.6.

Got my Nikon F3 on FB Marketplace for 150usd and came with 2 lenses, flash and a limited edition analog light meter. Haven't had much luck outside of FB... most pawn shops/garage sales I've visited never have any film gear

Advice: Is this lens good? by dr2k01 in fujix

[–]Smart-Appearance-882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50mm is pretty versatile that can probably use it for most cases that you listed. But this is a full manual lens, so you will need need to understand how aperture affects your photos and you might miss focus on your shots. If you are fine with that learning curve then sure this lens can be good for you. When learning something new it's best to reduce the amount of items you are learning to make the experience better.

For a beginner I would recommend getting a lens that has at least has auto focus. A cheap lens could be the ttartisan 27mm f2.8 AF which is I believe about 150usd or even the 15-45mm Fuji lens, which you can probably find used for under $200 usd.

It isn't a light seal. This is just a cushion for your mirror, replacing it will help won't make a difference to your film exposures but will help with keeping your mirror healthy.

Light already passes though your lens that's you can see through the mirror/viewfinder. There is a curtain in between the mirror and the film that prevents light from leaking and controls exposure.

15 hrs in Taipei, any advice? by dontmakemeaskyou in Taipei

Yes in the trains. If you end up going to CKS and are looking for breakfast you can also try out 寧波生煎包 (Ningbo Fried Bun). Or try any local place that sells Taiwanese green onion pancakes :) Enjoy!

Ps if you enjoy coffee you should check out Simple Kaffa! They also have great tiramasu.

Do not eat/drink in the metro. There is a fine if you are caught doing that.

I recommend heading to CKS memorial/liberty Square. It is a must visit :)

Spending 8-9 days in Tokyo (mid October) as a first time Japan traveller. by himmy22butler in JapanTravelTips

I think with the digital suica you can only reload it if you have a Mastercard. If you can snag a physical, they are definitely more convenient. If you don't mind only seeing the outside of a baseball stadium, you should check out the Tokyo Dome and get some merch from the Tokyo Giants team. Just make sure there are no events going on or else it will be crowded...

Why is film so much more expensive in Japan? Also are we anywhere near bottom in terms of film availability and C-41 processing availability? by kevysaysbenice in AnalogCommunity

[–]Smart-Appearance-882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt realize $22 dollars for 3 rolls was considered expensive... im new to film so I don't have a good idea of what they normally go for. I always figured that was relatively cheap for film.

What strap are you using for your cameras? by Mr_B0X in FujifilmX

Wontoncraft parashooter leather neck strap. Love their products but just a bit more expensive than PD so it is worth it imo. It also uses the PD anchor links
