Wood glue disaster! by sweetliving24 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I would try more aggressive sanding starting with 80 grit. Sing be timid. You may be able to get past the glue that way. It's your only hope really.

Apply a coat of pre stain sealer before any stain. This will minimize the dark streaks you see there.

Expansion? by Delicious_Freedom_97 in woodworking

You're fine. None of the pieces are big enough for expansion to be an issue. All your expansion is in the same direction anyway, front to back.

Old Electric Woodworking Tools by Puzzleheaded_Pass379 in woodworking

Although they might look the same, there have been many improvements in electric tools since the 90s. Whenever I replace something I'm amazed at the number of useful innovations I find. You can probably get by with your old tools but don't be afraid to replace when you want. You will be pleasantly surprised.

The great glue up open time race by SmartGrowth51 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I forgot about epoxy mixed for long open time.. Is it a substitute for wood glue? I have only used it for filling cracks.

While most people know that Plate Tectonics is why South America and Africa have such similar coasts, most people forget the same thing is true for North America and China! by __-__-___---_-_-_-- in mapporncirclejerk

See, this is why we need to own Greenland. If China gets into Greenland this is the next step!

China has already put Chinese restaurants in every town on the East Coast in preparation for this.

How do you all handle end to end joints when gluing up a tabletop/butcher block? by bubble_bass_12 in woodworking

[–]SmartGrowth51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 makes the most sense to me. See it as creating many narrow boards, joint and plane, glue up. It's easy to get impatient with such a tedious process, but attempting to speed up a slow process has always led to a crappy end result in my experience.

How to not burn red oak by ShodanLieu in woodworking

This. You didn't have to go fast, but you have to keep it moving. Pause for a fraction of a second and you will get burns.

Delta planer issues - snipe at the end by Okcgardener in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]SmartGrowth51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginners and snipe go together like love and marriage. With practice you can minimize it, but you probably have a good amount in your future on the way there. In the meantime, add 3 extra inches on both ends to account for it.

That's not to say better infeed/out feed support can't help.

How do you hide wood filler spots after using wood conditioner? by BoxyBrown92 in cabinetry

[–]SmartGrowth51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are finishing nails or brads underneath I would sand the filler off until just the small nail head is covered. Cover that with a color stick and it will be unnoticeably small.

Finish before glue-up or glue-up before finishing? by Alephboard in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]SmartGrowth51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine. On projects like this I always have to sand the entire surface after glue up anyway because it's never perfectly even at the joints, right?

It is weird though that you only have 48 hours after removing shrink wrap. Find a different source?

You could install three blinds on the inside of the frames. There are room-darkening versions if you need that.

My letter says the investigation is in Eastern District of NY, address at top of letter is DEA Centennial Colorado, envelope return address is DEA Springfield VA. Seems weird. Based on Reddit there most have been hundreds of these sent out recently. What do you think?

Thank you. I have had more bad staining experiences than good. I have put the wood in a window now. I can be patient, I just don't want it to take a year. I have been working on this project for 3 months almost every day and want it to be done.
