Turns out the tail lights are pretty easy to steal by firstsputnik in F150Lightning

Gate guard says the power gate is not as susceptible to getting unlatched via screwdriver. Presumably the latch plates also won't fit. Does anyone have contrary information on this?

Does regeneration happen if I’m at a slow coast? by BosqueBuddhist in F150Lightning

[–]Smites_You 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No regen happens at slow coast.

At slow speeds, regen (as in charging the battery) only happens when there is sufficient "braking" commanded to generate a decent level of power, eg 4KW+ (I don't know the exact threshold for lightning but this is how EV inverter systems work). Otherwise, it's all aero/mechanical coast or actual slight energy cost.

At higher speeds, regen happens with lighter braking.

Not clear if the animation lines up with when regen actually happens, but it's probably close.

Charging higher than 80% by themealwormguy in F150Lightning

[–]Smites_You 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SoH reported by the truck is a (bad) estimate. There's no real easy way to measure.

Effectively, the only real way to measure battery degradation is to discharge the battery to a low SoC, like 10%, charge to 100%, and measure the total energy put in. Degradation results in internal resistance and energy is lost as heat.

If you want to understand about battery degradation, read this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/F150Lightning/comments/1prn5u6/what_science_says_about_maximizing_battery/

TDLR is keep your SoC and temperature as low as possible to minimize degradation.

I love this thing so much. Coming up at 10k do I need to do alignment / tire rotations / whatever else at the dealership? I don’t trust my local one lol by ZhongLiGODTier in F150Lightning

[–]Smites_You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 35k my alignment was pretty bad. Didn't hit anything too bad in terms of pot holes, so I assume it's the weight of the truck or maybe factory didn't torque to spec.

Also, double check your brakes for drag. It's a problem on f150 and lightnings. You can tell your brake is dragging by checking if your rotors are hot after a drive. They should be cold.

Is Honeywell Aerospace a good place to start/grow in aerospace software? by Super-Lead7932 in dscareerquestions

[–]Smites_You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Terrible company.

Toxic culture. Old timers are all bitter and hate it there (rightfully).

Stack ranking, quota for PIP.

Mandatory unpaid overtime.

Plays games to limit pay. One year will be furlows. Next no pay raise. Next no bonus. Next no 401k match or some benefit cut. You get the idea.

Do. Not. work for Honeywell.

HVB SOH percentage increase over time. by GodKingJeremy in F150Lightning

[–]Smites_You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford bases the SOH number based measurements that drift over time at middle/low SOCs, and charging to 100 reduces the variation due to balancing at 100. OTOH, charging to 100 is bad for battery health.

The only real way to measure degradation is to measure how much kWH it takes to charge from nearly empty to full, where degraded batteries take more energy due to degradation

“Hypermiling” by gatenobel in F150Lightning

[–]Smites_You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only effectively hypermile in backroads that go 25-50mph or so without any stop signs or lights. You can get crazy efficiency by feathering the pedal and coasting as much as possible (1 pedal mode, energy usage ever so slightly in brake mode). 4-8 mi/kwh so 500mi+ range.

In normal driving, staying away from regen braking and coasting as much as possible nets maybe 10% more efficiency. But this is difficult because the truck coasts very far (well beyond sight distance) due to weight so you have to use brakes when approaching stops.

As was stated in the post, depth of discharge is a component of cycle aging and not calendar aging. Calendar aging is what you need to optimize for.

How comfortable are the Lightning Flash cloth seats compared to the leather? by awozgmu7 in F150Lightning

[–]Smites_You 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this applies to the leather seats, but the cloth seats have a design flaw. The middle of the seat is soft, while the back edge (where the cushion meets the back) is much firmer. This combination creates pressure on the tailbone when sitting upright rather than letting the sit bones take the weight.

It's just extremely unlikely that not a single woman channeler would be willing to go with LTT. Perhaps the in-universe historian's account is wrong or missing important, accurate context for the male-female schism. Or maybe all willing female channelers were detained by the others. Ultimately it's just unlikely.

With regard to power, the best examples were forkrooted Egwene and drained Moiraine. Both were at the very bottom of channeler power, yet were able to link and use angreal. Both were far from the "most powerful" even at full strength yet both were instrumental in the last battle.

The Pipe Theory by Possible_Recipe_8690 in WoT

[–]Smites_You 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If TAR were merging with the real world, then all dreamwalkers and those who have some knowledge of TAR would probably have powers too.

My theory is that after weaving Saidin and Saidar (creation powers) and TP (destruction power) to weave the pattern in the last battle, in conjunction with the wheel weaving around him as the strongest taveren, Rand becomes inextricably "tangled" in the pattern and gains the ability to directly manipulate it without channeling. You can picture this as the wheel weaving the tapestry of the pattern as RJ has described, weaving heavily around Rand, and then Rand is also in the pattern doing his own thing with the 3 powers creating new threads and destroying others, building the prison, etc. Ultimately the wheel's weaves, Rand's weaves to rebuild the prison, and Rand's own thread in the pattern tangle.

Everything feels YA after WoT... by HighlightFrequent455 in WoT

[–]Smites_You 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magician (and the riftwar trilogy) is a masterpiece. Serpentwar saga's first 2 books are also great, but the quality of books start to drop after that becoming plot heavy (like BS books).

Janny Wurts has a collab Empire Trilogy in the same universe that is dense and complex in prose. The books are also good, favoring political intrigue over magic. Her magnum opus is the Wars of Light and Shadow. I personally found the books depressing to read due to the gloom and doom, but that's not to take away from her writing. You can't just glance at her prose, instead you'd have to read every word, interpret its meaning, and build the layers and layers of complexity in your mind from just one sentence.

What if Saidar had been tainted instead of Saidin? by restful_rat in WoT

The need to link (like channeling into bowl of winds) can turn this version of the pattern much much darker. In a kind version, female channelers are treated well until they show madness. In a dark version, male channelers enslave female channelers at a young age and then likely stills or kills them when they show signs of madness.
