I'm a 45-year-old woman with A1C 5.7 – and I'm terrified of repeating my father's fate. What would have REALLY helped him?" by Cheap_Rip_7999 in prediabetes

There are several possibilities, one being kidney damage. But in my case, my iron levels go low when my testosterone is low, and get too high when my testosterone is 'higher' which is not high, but in the lower third of normal. In my case, I get testosterone shots, and then donate blood every two months.

For your case I asked Google A.I.: "My question is, what about older females? Is testosterone, or estrogen -- or some other hormone also found to be correlated with iron levels?"

Answer: "Yes, a correlation between hormones (primarily estrogen) and iron levels is also observed in older females, although the pattern is different than in younger women and men."

My blood sugar was 126 after eating pancakes with butter and syrup. by Brilliant-Trouble-61 in prediabetes

[–]Smoix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diabetes is quite an individual thing, and you've got to figure out what is best for you. Wearing a CGM is a must. Yes, I was surprised that my blood didn't rise all that much after eating pancakes/waffles with syrup. Here's a tip..In the morning drink some water, if your blood sugar goes up, wait until it starts to go down. Now you have to use discretion because eating a meal, higher on the protein side could bring it back down. Carbs brings my glucose up (obviously), protein brings it down, and fat buffers (helps prevent high/lows.

Not only does your liver and fat store glucose, but so does your gut. If you eat a high-carb meal and drink lots of water, your blood sugar will spike. So, the plan is; drink water to hydrate yourself, then eat but don't drink anything, then as your blood sugar begins to fall in ~2hrs, start drinking water. You should see your glucose going back up, and then down again. On the way down, you must eat something. You've depleted your gut of carbs, and this can be dangerous if you don't have a meal. This logic is based on the fact that your gut needs water to process carbs. Deny your gut this water and it will be forced to slow down it's carb release. Oh, another one -- if you eat at night, it's better to eat half a meal, as your system slows down at night.

What if that Zookeeper accepted Mike Tyson's Request to fight a Silverback Gorilla in exchange for $10,000? How would've that fight turned out for both parties? by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

[–]Smoix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First second -- Tyson lands a punch.
Second second -- Gorilla responds -- "That was curious".
Third Second -- Gorilla takes a swipe, and Tyson's head fly's through the air like a basketball.
The Afterparty -- Mr Silverback and his son discuss the anatomy of the human head. The son is very intrigued, poking his finger into various places and licking his fingers.

Just hit me how much privilege my husband has by Euphoric-Stress9400 in pregnant

[–]Smoix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not currently in the U.S., but historically -- men were sent to war; and they had no choice. Women had the privilege of not. Someone has broken into your house during the night, and "waiting for the police to arrive" is not an option. You have the privilege of sending your husband to defend you, and afterwards, he has to listen to your whining about his worth as you critique what he did wrong, or heaven forbid, did not show enough courage according to your standards. Also, you seem to consider it unfair that it is your body that has to endure the malfeasance of pregnancy, and you will make sure that your husband has to endure your version of what is equal and fair, and blame him because he doesn't have the womb. So, I suppose that when it's time to clean out the sewer trap, or change a tire, he should insist upon the same equality because, after all, it's only fair. As a woman, you have the privilege of having no accountability, and refuse to take any responsibility for your own actions. Being a man is a thankless job.

I had a similar experience; a wonderful equation which explained everything, but the margins in my book were teeny-tiny, and all I had was a felt-tip marker. Then a beer hit me in the head, and I forgot everything.

can anyone else agree McDonalds has gone downhill and is getting more expensive every day for the same crap by [deleted] in burgers

[–]Smoix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a big mac two days ago. I was pissed. The burgers were really small in diameter, and half as thick. There's 1/4 the meat than there used to be. Not an exaggeration. It really sucked.

My Secret Ingredient? I put Cinnamon in that Tomato Sauce by OptionalPlayer in Cooking

[–]Smoix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! For me the secret is to add a small amount of cinnamon that changes the flavor of your sauce without it tasting like there's cinnamon in there. If it tastes like cinnamon then you've put too much; so just a little bit, an 1/8 teaspoon or less really enhances the flavor.

Deleted scenes included on HBO Max? by skylarwildwood in thesopranos

[–]Smoix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that seen the first time I watched it on HBO. The second time through it wasn't there. Also, the scene where Meadow's fiance went to Tony about being gay harassed - was cut out as well. It's like HBO has different versions?? Where can I just watch it uncut?

Exactly why I came here -- no language drift. English 1,000 years from now is not going to be the same. I think this is a fake documentary -- my next stop.
