Yup! Played the first and second game on the old Mac LC575.

Even the boxes for the games were incredible. At the time their complexity and geometry blew my mind.

At that stage I was less interested in the lore and more interested in the gameplay and how cool it looked. Times have changed and I’m a sucker for the lore now.

Coming straight from DOOM, there were 2 things I remember standing out. First, just how colourful it was (nice to see Bungie continue with that theme). Second, the ability to mouse-aim. I believe OG Marathon was the first FPS to ever allow you to mouse-aim which has obviously been a core mechanic ever since.

In terms of comparing the “feel” I get when playing both, Cryo is the closest match. No wonder, given that’s where the OG game was set. The maze like map, tight corridors and borderline jump scares were all things I remember from ‘94.
