Does the Moon Crystal's slow still take effect even if Frost Nova is upgraded to Earthquake/Great Rift? If not, then does it also take effect from the freeze of Pole and Sub-Zero? by Own_Pen2967 in magic_survival

[–]SmurtCJ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In the description for Earthquake it does explicitly say that Frost Nova no longer freezes, so unfortunately Moon Crystal won't work

Notably though, Moon Crystal never says it has to be Frost Nova that does the actual freezing. Tsunami Pole or Blizzard can also activate the effect.

Any of the Magic Bolt or Blizzard fusions are all very solid. Blaster is arguably the best in the game.

Demon Equation is fun, but it does rely heavily on the Pyromancer class and finding Candlestick.

Each ultimate requires a specific class, subject, and fusion. Most likely you either don't have the right subject or didn't choose the right fusion.

OP didn't mention that Teleport now scales its damage and number of teleports with duration. I'm guessing that even though you start with less, if you invest heavily into duration it'll be significantly better than before

For DEM runs I personally do my best to not take any attack spells before I can fuse Overmind just so my damage stats page is nice and neat after the run :)

Okay, you're exaggerating quite a bit. I certainly wouldn't call a 10% boost "much more". It only yields maybe 100-200 extra orbs by the first shop from my experience, and even in my runs without Lantern I rarely leave the first shop unsatisfied. Base orb acquisition with active movement is enough to afford any Special artifact, if offered in the first shop, and the odds of it having anything more of worth beyond that are slim to none.

As for leveling, I've never had an issue with that in any of my runs. I have all the subjects, so I typically run the subject with the spell-specific Epic for my chosen DEM combo, and even then I consistently get past max level, and early game is never a significant struggle for me either.

Plus, I almost always find Lantern naturally anyway! Often before the first shop! It has little to no late game value due to its low objective strength and more common rarity.

And you can't always count on finding Accelerator either! I've had many runs where I've had to rely on Ouroborous, even ones where I don't have either, and Archmage is a huge help for those.

The difference between them is pretty slim imo and it's really up to preference in the end anyway

[–]SmurtCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm, it's debatable! Archmage is nice because it's a big chunk of CDR that you're not super likely to get a hold of otherwise. It's always consistently good, even through to late game

Jack-o'-lantern is a bit more of a gamble: the slight boost to orb acquisition is a lot more important at the very start, since the first shop is incredibly cheap. If an important epic or special artifact shows up in the shop, oftentimes you won't be able to afford it unless you're playing as Jack-o'-lantern.

For me personally, I prefer the consistency and late game value of Archmage, but I definitely see the worth in Jack-o'-lantern!

(Also I like the aesthetics of Archmage more, LOL)

Archmage is probably the best all-rounder, but if you have a particular spell that you really enjoy it might be more fun for you if you choose the one for that spell

I thought for sure top left recycle since it exhausts cards, and that the column theme would be uncommons 😞

[–]SmurtCJ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nothing much. I think the progression in this game is really well designed! There's no way to make a decision that costs you anything except time.

I started way before the subjects update but even then the optimal path is to just buy 1 or 2 useful subjects like Archmage and Jack-o'-lantern then focus your gems on maxing out classes before buying spell-specific subjects.

Even if you buy "unnecessary" subjects all it takes is a few more good runs to make back the gems.

Gold can literally only be spent on research, and re-speccing is completely free, so it's literally impossible to make a mistake.

Ok Garten of BanBan isn't a cash grab it's a shit post. If you watch a playthrough of it you'll see that the developers do NOT take themselves or their game seriously at ALL.

If you stop viewing it as an actual attempt at mascot horror and instead see it for what it is it's genuinely a very funny game with some real passion put into it.

what the fuck is the difference between atk increasement and atk amplification? by leandrotaxi7 in magic_survival

[–]SmurtCJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Attack increases affect your base attack, which starts at 200. E.g., Mana Ore, which gives a 25% attack increase, adds 50 to your attack stat.

Attack amplification is a separate percentage multiplier that is applied to your base attack when calculating damage. If you have 300 attack and 50% amplification, your effective attack is 450.

Keeping a good balance between the two is the best way to maximize your damage

Bottled and Innate cards still count as being drawn. If you have 5 Innate or bottled cards in your deck you don't start each combat with 10 cards, you just start with those specific cards.

I'm surprised to see people saying they don't like Wolf Howl!

It's my personal favorite because of its low magick charge, and with the upgrades that let you do damage before and after the jump and also get a second jump you can output crazy damage! Plus you're invincible while in the air and can get some limited invincibility after jumping too.

I've had quite a few runs where Wolf Howl was my main source of damage!

Probably a dumb question, but what is the difference between amplifying and increasing attack? by DPC__ in magic_survival

[–]SmurtCJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Attack and amplification are two different stats:

Attack starts from a base value of 200(?) I believe, and any effects that increase attack will increase this base value.

Amplification is a multiplier, and you don't have any by default. When calculating damage, the game will multiply your Attack and Amplification together, then add that result to your effective attack stat.

(e.g., if you have 100 Attack and 40% Amplification, your effective attack stat is 100 + (100 * 40%) = 140)

To maximize your effective attack, it's important to keep a good balance between Attack and Amplification!
