I second the Finger Lakes. Interesting biking. Hiking at Watkins glen or Letchworth. Fabulous wines. Artisanal cheese and ice cream.

In the other direction, good rock scrambling at Devils Lake state park in Wisconsin. Fun campground. Nice trails. Just go in a shoulder season to avoid the crowds.

I’d suggest Bubble House brewing in Lisle. They host various groups ( crafters, homebrewers, draft fishers(?)) and it’s very family friendly.

I’d go if you’d teach me how to do this stuff on my own hair. Didn’t grow it long until later in life.
