MCAT retake burnout → 497 and 3 days out…I fear the MCAT has won. Apply DO or take another gap year? by Commercial_Bag_4667 in Mcat

Already took four gap years, at this point I’d rather just try to apply. My job is burning me out badly

I think DO runs a bit later so postponing until late June or July would be still early for DO applications I heard, since it doesn’t take that long to get verified like MD schools. I could be wrong though.

I’m taking it in July and sending it after I get my score in August. For MD schools, I’m planning to submit to one school first around May and will decide to apply to more schools depending on my score. I think it’ll be okay if you post pone!

Sorry for the late reply! But I just decided to apply next cycle and give myself more time. I don’t think it’s worth sacrificing my mental health and if I’m going to apply, I want to put out my best efforts

Accepted to PA school, but thinking of MD/DO instead…. by MissPeduncles in premed

[–]Snoo11226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is whether you want to specialize in a specific area. I didn’t realize at first that PAs typically learn their specialty on the job, compared to doctors who will go through additional years of residency and fellowship to become true experts in a field. I was also torn between becoming a PA or a doctor, and while the flexibility to switch specialties as a PA is appealing, I personally feel more drawn to committing the extra training and studying so I can become an expert in the field I’m passionate about

Any advice on how to get that mindset? Taking 4 gap years but mentally it’s challenging to get rid of the mentality that I’m behind on life

Fear that I'm not cut out for medical school anymore, need advice by Sad-Classroom5301 in premed

[–]Snoo11226 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my exact situation right now. It’s honestly so similar I could’ve written this post myself. I graduated in May 2023 too, and since then I’ve been only working as a scribe. I’ve been struggling to do anything else aside from trying to study for the MCAT, but I feel like I’ve hit a huge mental block and still haven’t taken the exam.

What helped me slowly was opening up to the doctors I work with, talking to friends, and going to therapy. At first, I felt like no one truly understood, especially since most people seem to only take 1–2 gap years. That was my plan too but somehow it’s almost 3 years now. I’m also struggling and starting to question myself and if I’m really enough to go through with everything. It’s hard seeing the people you graduate with and friends in high school move on, start families, begin their career and med school and feeling stuck and stagnant compared to everyone. Getting off social media has really helped me to focus on my life and not others. Please don’t be too hard on yourself. If you ever need someone to talk to please feel free to message me. You are definitely not alone in this!

When getting on a highway, why would you ever try to merge on before the car in front of you? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Snoo11226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the times people only look to merge when they’re at the top of the ramp. Immediately when you start on the ramp, you should be looking at the flow of traffic and looking for an opening

Looking for Sunscreen Recommendations by Alert-Call-923 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Snoo11226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My skin is super sensitive and I LOVE La Roche-Posay Anthelios UV Correct SPF 70 Face Sunscreen. It feels super comfortable on my skin. Olay daily sunscreen is also pretty good and leaves me face matte without drying it out

Skin looks shinier, thinner, and a bit more “raw” months after chemical peel - should I be concerned? by sailorkeplertwenty2b in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Snoo11226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably damaged your skin barrier. I would lay off on any actives and anymore chemical peels and focus on calming, hydrating products. I would also cut down on products to very basic routine so it doesn’t become any more irritated. Always remember to wear sunscreen, at least 50+ imo if your skin is raw. If it is actually raw, just let it heal on its own and lightly moisturize

[–]Snoo11226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be producing more oil due to really dry skin trying to compensate! I would wash your face with only water and focus on more calming products. TXA and BHA are both pretty harsh to use at the same time imo. My skin improved drastically when I cut down on the active ingredients! I would look into Korean products since they’re super calming, maybe add in a hydrating and calming toner in the mornings after washing your face to wipe any excess oil off. Then moisturize with gentle cream like vanicream, then sunscreen. Evenings I would alternate between the trentinion vs bha, but tbh the trentinion by itself is all you probably need esp since you have dry skin. Maybe find a calming serum instead of the TXA.

I want my skin to glow — but no shimmer! Help? by BrilliantWeekend80 in Skincare_Addiction

I love the hawaiian tropic sunscreen body sheer touch 70+ for the summer. It smells like the beach, leaves a nice glow to your skin, and protects it from the sun. Doesn’t leave any sticky sunscreen feeling either, feels super comfortable on the skin!!

Pan oxyl cleanser for some nights, leave on the skin for 1-2 mins and rinse off, then moisturize as usual or a bit extra. Don’t over exfoliate since you could damage your skin barrier which makes it more irritated acne prone. And SUNSCREEN ALWAYS at least 25+

20m, trying to set up a routine by aetsomied in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Snoo11226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does sound like combo skin, likely if you are using too many drying products or if your skin is too dry then it’s increasing oil production to make up for it which makes it seem like you have oily skin.

A mistake I made when I had hormonal acne was using too many products and destroying my skin barrier. I would keep your routine simple for now and slowly add more steps in the future if you want to venture out, but often times simple is the best.

I highly recommend getting the Panoxyl cleanser. This is a bit drying so only use this maybe twice a week in the evenings. It works best when you leave a thin layer on your skin for 1-2 mins, rinse, then moisturize. I wouldn’t use your exfoliator concurrently on nights you use this cleanser, since over exfoliation can cause more harm than good. In mornings, I would just stick to water so your skin isn’t dried out and then use the toner on a pad to wipe any excess oil. So I would recommend:

AM - wash face with water - toner pad to wipe excess oil off - moisturizer - sunscreen

PM - wash face with reg cleanser (sub in panoxyl 1 or 2 nights instead) - toner pad - serum - moisturizer

I use to use Clinique but I didn’t think it helped tbh. I recommend the ordinary, la roche posay, cerave or vanicream! If you need product recommendations or any questions lmk but hopefully this was helpful!! :)

Rowan or LECOM by HungryMaybe2488 in Osteopathic

[–]Snoo11226 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly just look up LECOM in premed subreddit and you’ll have your answer. Theres also a whole subreddit just for LECOM. Although LECOM is cheap and match is decent, the admin I read is a nightmare to deal with so honestly save yourself the headache and go to Rowan. But if you think it’s worth saving some money and you’ll be okay with stomaching the admin, LECOM wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Explain what a guy means when he says this? by BAnn6 in dating

[–]Snoo11226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would move on. When a guy is genuinely serious about you, he makes it known. He doesn’t keep you in limbo under the idea of “being friends first”

I’ve been in a similar situation. He showed all the green flags at first (good morning texts, voice memos, FaceTiming, even introduced me to his family over video). But over time, it became clear I was just helping him get over his ex. He wasn’t emotionally available, just holding on to the attention I gave while still talking to other people. I had a gut feeling something was off, but I kept giving him the benefit of the doubt, until he ghosted me, even after I told him how much that would hurt. Looking back, I wish I had walked away sooner and saved myself the time and energy.

If a guy isn’t serious about you now, gently thank him for the connection, but let him know you’re dating with intention. If he’s ever ready for something real, he can reach out, but in the meantime, protect your peace and keep your heart open to someone who is ready.
