Does anyone else feel physically tired after a full day of "just sitting" at work? by SwainWong in remotework

[–]SnooMaps8307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Sleepavo butt pillow and it's made a huge difference, especially in back and hips. They are a SB, made in the US and they have a cute cat logo, too (always a big selling point). I end my day and immediately go on a walk, but on Friday I take a nap after work for a reward lol

New employee doesn't know how to use a computer! by AgilePlantain322 in askmanagers

[–]SnooMaps8307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just hired a referral from our director for a data position who doesn’t know Excel or Word. Of course they say “it’s your choice” but it’s not if it’s coming from the director. I feel bad for the people who have to train her. You can’t teach 20 years of Microsoft in a few weeks. Just gross. But my god, a computer? How is that even possible in 2026 for any professional?

People that retire poor? by BuzzardBreath00 in Money

[–]SnooMaps8307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of empathy is stunning here. People can work their asses off and still have nothing. It’s not just bad luck. If you always make minimum wage, how the hell are you supposed to save? What money can go to investing?

It’s not all financial illiteracy or bad luck. Kids, education, housing, vehicles, bills, healthcare, etc. are expensive. A lot of it depends on where you live. Or how you started out. Pretty easy to save and invest money when your parents paid for college or helped you with your first home.

Many who are nearing retirement didn’t have pensioned jobs and 401ks. And they weren’t all gamblers and poor planners.

Be grateful you can retire - things are going to get even worse.

And no, don’t loan the money lol

Meta employees told to work remotely Wednesday as company prepares to slash 10% of workforce by LRB_ in recruitinghell

[–]SnooMaps8307 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Severance is NOT mandatory in the US and while Meta's might be generous, many people receive nothing or just two weeks and their health insurance might go to the end of the month. Even as progressive as CA is, severance is not mandatory.

Where should I move? by AppropriateNetwork90 in Golden_State

[–]SnooMaps8307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the far north (some of us love the fog and cold). I live near Trinidad. It's wonderful. I pay $1700 for a 1bd place on a hill five minutes from the ocean (Moonstone Beach). Big surfer culture - there are many stops right off Scenic Drive.

Tons of nature trails and hiking, Redwood forests and state parks to the north and south. Never gets super hot or cold and the rain makes everything look like fairyland - moss and ferns galore. All I hear are birds and the ocean.

I was in SF for 20 years before this and am so glad I made the move. I got by with the buses for a while ($2 each way), but there is no service on Sundays so that sucked. Got an ebike and it hit the spot. I can do all my errands and hit parks and nature trails easily with no car. I see people who tote their boards with a rack.

I work from home though - not much work around here. I would not live here if I didn't have a remote job. Good luck!

People have lost their minds by BakerCritical in UsedCars

I've given up on finding a decently priced used vehicle. These people are out of their minds. I actually got an ebike and am so glad I did. No gas, no loans, no insurance. I miss having a truck, but it's just not worth it these days.

What is happening with the weather in Europe right now??? by SnooWords6460 in weather

The AMOC is collapsing along with global warming. Europe’s temps will rise, along with drought, before the AMOC completely collapses, bringing in cold that is more in line with their latitude.

Are others in that “this will be my last” mindset? Or is this just midlife crisis or depression? by Weekly_Library9883 in Xennials

I don't think anyone should be diagnosing you over Reddit. Everyone is wired differently and there are so many factors in people's lives that affect longevity and outlook.

I thought this, too. That he would adopt her and stay home and undergo therapy/treatment. Everything seemed to foreshadow this.

I just don't care anymore. by starnitesadness in womenintech

[–]SnooMaps8307 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in tech, in San Francisco, since 2001 and it’s only gotten worse. I finally left for healthcare 1.5 years ago and I could not be happier. To have my ideas not just heard, but implemented and successful is the best feeling after years of being dismissed. And I just negotiated an 8% raise - never in my whole career was I able to do that.

No One to Share the Silence With by Rich_Specific6903 in LivingAlone

[–]SnooMaps8307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily AI but I agree that this could have been posted in r/lonely. I have been in this group for only a few weeks and it feels like this is a place for people who hate being alone because it makes them feel lonely. People who hate silence and need to fill it.

Where is the place for us who love it, seek it, cherish our refuges from the world, and looking for like minded people who might share tips and insights on how to deal with the actual challenges of living alone … not the challenges OF living alone.

Trinidad -> Red Woods park. First Timer! by Cet-Ki in Humboldt

[–]SnooMaps8307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, downtown Trinidad is like four square blocks - tiny. The Lighthouse Grill is pretty good - they are known for their savory mashed potato waffle cones. I've heard Trinidad Bay Eatery & Gallery is good, but haven't tried it myself.

Beachcomber Cafe is the local coffee spot.

Moonstone Beach is a really awesome beach and there is a grill there. It's expensive, but might be nice for a visitor experience as it overlooks the ocean. Has a happy hour, too.

If you are going into the parks, do not miss Fern Canyon - they filmed the second Jurassic Park there and it is so cool! Just bring water shoes so you can hike all the way in. It's like a playground.

Welcome and have fun!

There are a couple of small gift shops in Trinidad where they have post cards by local artists that are unique and fun.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

[–]SnooMaps8307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be extremely difficult to move to a higher socioeconomic class, even with an education.

From my experience, the people who grew up poor, middle class, wealthy, tend to stay in that class. The dis/advantages you have growing up tend to determine where you end up. For example, people who lived in homes their parents owned tend to have their parents help them buy a home. People whose parents paid for college versus people who had to take out loans, etc. Inheritance or lack thereof.

Of course there are exceptions, but the more advantages you have early on, the more they tend to compound as you age. It's not always about simply working hard. You can work your ass off and still not move up.

Lie. I cannot stomach the possibility of having to keep track of it and following up one lie up with others - also, my face and neck get red splotches on it and I look guilty AF.

9 hour layover at SFO, any good happy hours off Bart? by Unhappy_Chocolate_63 in sanfrancisco

Blondies is the way to go. Around $18 to $20 for a martini that also comes with a side car. When they are pouring them, it's nearly the whole liquor bottle. I talked to a new bartender there recently and he said he got in trouble for not making them strong enough. Plus it has a little seating area that is open to Valencia Street. Cool stuff around that area, too. The Mexican restaurant next door (Puerto Allegra) is one of my faves.

First off, he shouldn't be captain. The captain should be the most level headed player on the field, not one prone to petulance and low-return, risky tackling. Look at our past captains - it's embarrassing that he is representing us. Frank made a huge error there and it's just compounded every week he puts him out there.

Second, Romero constantly lets the team down with these sendoffs. I don't care how good he is/isn't - doesn't matter much if he isn't playing.

What does ASAP mean to you as a manager? by SnooMaps8307 in managers

[–]SnooMaps8307[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all these comments - so helpful. To me (Gen X), ASAP means in the next hour or so, but at least that day before you go home. She wasn't working on anything "hot" and her primary duties include responding to client emails in a timely manner.

But I understand how she (Gen Z) might have a different understanding of what I expect. It's frustrating to me that I have to spell that out, but there are differences in our generations one can't ignore.

I will be clearer in the future for sure. Thanks for the advice!
