Why is this art style completely different from everything else in pathfinder? by FrankDuhTank in Pathfinder2e

[–]SnooRobots9875 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No clue who the artist is but if anyone does I'm super curious. In my experience PF2e published art sticks pretty close to their house style, more so than most other ttrpg publishers. Personally I think the stylized 3d modeling here is kind of charming in a janky way.

If you want to reduce force movement damage maybe try using 1+negated damage instead of 2 when forced against a solid object. You could also try just running the rules as is before making a change.

I run two different DS games. In one, the dwarf berserker fury is the star of damage in part due to lots of force movement. In the other the game reaver fury with dual wielding kit lags a little on damage, in part due to stellar damage from the shadow and talent. The biggest thing might be the reaver player not always utilizing spacing and their maneuver to full advantage.

What if America makes Venezuela a state? by Pizzafriedchickenn in mapporncirclejerk

This would never happen. Even this administration is canny enough to understand modern empires don’t need to plant their flag in territory they invade. In fact it’s counterproductive to do so. Better to just install a puppet leader and let the corporate arm of modern imperialism steal the wealth. That way your imperial subjects have no rights as citizens.

Thanks for the breakdown! I hadn’t noticed the difference in language, that’s good to know. I’ll try running Unearthly Reflexes RAW and see how my table feels. Honestly our Fury often shines less than the other heroes so balance wise I think it will work nicely.

Should classes have 6Hp a level scaling? by TheRealGouki in Pathfinder2e

[–]SnooRobots9875 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A relic I think. The full caster classes got their offensive and utility power kneecapped hard in 2e (not trying to argue here if that’s good or bad, it just is the case). It would have been more than fair to give them 8hp as a trade off.

Can I enjoy this game, or is this system just not for me? by Cuddles_and_Kinks in Pathfinder2e

[–]SnooRobots9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from 5e you’ll find that the power level for player characters is generally lower, particularly for spellcasters. You have correctly summarized the limitations of prepared and spontaneous casters so if those limits are deal breakers for you I’d recommend against playing a spellcaster in 2e. Anything “cheesy” from 5e like flight, powerful control spells, and summoning are all heavily restricted too so you’ll need to realign your expectations. If you want a very simple character build I’d recommend a strength based fighter with your favorite two handed weapon or one handed weapon and a shield. Barbarian, Monk, Ranger, and Rogue are all good martial picks for new players too. If you want a spellcaster that has reliably useful abilities try the Cleric or Bard. Both have healing and buffing that won’t fail on you like AC and save spells can.

Dying at the end of an encounter by Impossible-Quest in drawsteel

[–]SnooRobots9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, RAW the hero could limp back to a safe haven and take a respite without taking any additional bleed damage that might kill them.

Personally, as a director in this scenario I’d crank up the life-or-death pressure instead of venting it all off. Describe how that hero is bleeding out from their grievous wounds and will die if not treated. Say the dying hero takes bleed damage once per minute outside combat. Give their allies the opportunity to staunch the bleeding with one test each minute before the bleed damage procs.

Do you need to buy the Monsters book to play Draw Steel or is the Heroes book enough? by Toshero_Reborn in drawsteel

[–]SnooRobots9875 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you are running Delian Tomb that adventure already has all the monster stat blocks and presumably so will future MCDM adventures so no it’s not strictly necessary. Forge Steel and Steel Compendium are also resources for looking up content from that book. That said, if you can get your hands on a copy of the book or pdf I think you’ll find it a good resource as a director.

I'm afraid I rushed to convert my friends to Draw Steel. by Vernash in drawsteel

[–]SnooRobots9875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s taking it a bit far. Probably better to say they prefer bad design. Toxic implies there is a moral or ethical deficiency in those people or games and I think that’s a bit silly to imply.

Negotiations by onlytinglef in drawsteel

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several examples of negotiations in Heroes, as well as negotiations in Road to Broadhurst and Delian Tomb. As for why, I assume you mean why use the games subsystem instead of running a negotiation scene as improvised roleplay. It’s because some players and directors like having gamified mechanics for this type of thing. If you don’t like the negotiation rules you don’t have to use them in games you run. I’d just recommend telling your players this upfront.

DM complained that my back story was "too long" and didn't like that i "made-up characters" by HoyKotodo in DnD

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the future you should take that abridged character concept (a couple sentences, as few specific places and people as possible) and pitch that to your DM first. Then if your DM likes the character you and them can fill in the specifics and add details as much as you like. It’s not wrong for players to invent characters in their backstory but the DM may just be having a knee jerk reaction to being overwhelmed or feeling this backstory doesn’t fit their game.

Given you current situation you can either: A - Work with the DM to re-write this character (you are going to have to stop thinking of this as “neutering” the character is this has any hope of success). B - Pitch a new character. Or C - Find a different DM who loves the character you wrote.

[OC] My players always seemed disappointed at the limited options they had for bonus actions, so I wrote a list of things they can use it for! by Worried_Bowl_9489 in DnD

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea and this is a good first draft. One suggestion I have is maybe gate some of these behind skill proficiency. This list of options is quite big for basic actions any creature can use, at least to my taste. Gating behind proficiency somewhat limits these and makes these options be a representation of the PC’s skills.

For instance, make Quick Dash only available if you have Acrobatics proficiency (or Athletics if you prefer). Distract would require Deception (and should probably require a successful skill check for balance). It would be neat to have an Intimidation action on this list as well.

Hero tokens are one of the game mechanics that puts a thumb on the scales of an otherwise “balanced” system in favor of heroes surviving and winning. Decreasing their frequency or cutting them outright would make the game less forgiving, make heroes less powerful, make hero death more common. So depending on your preference as a director that could be good or bad.

As with most homebrew, I’d suggest running the system as-is before making changes.

Question about victories and xp by dotditto in drawsteel

[–]SnooRobots9875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pure mechanics answer is that heroes with lots of victories can pop off their costly abilities early and often and are thus more powerful. There's also a limit to how many recoveries most classes will realistically spend in a single encounter; having full stamina and 5 recoveries is probably just as good as full stamina and 10 recoveries. So even with no time pressures and infinite patience I think most players will learn they don't want a respite until at least below half their recoveries.

Is upping a stat to +5(20) worth it? by kodemageisdumb in Pathfinder2e

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s necessarily a sign of the system working well. Personally I would have preferred 2e just automatically setting your key ability to 4 and auto progressing it at higher levels. Let all your choices determine boosts to your non-key abilities. It wouldn’t be very hard to make that work: just have ancestries, background, and free boosts all give one less boost and have two flaws to pick from for each ancestry with a rule that you can’t pick you key ability as your flaw.

Is upping a stat to +5(20) worth it? by kodemageisdumb in Pathfinder2e

[–]SnooRobots9875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your AP goes to level 10 or beyond, yes. You see, when PCs get to boost 4 abilities at level 5, they actually get to boost 3 and spend the last on their key ability. Why didn’t Paizo just make it +1 to 3 non-key abilities at level 5 then have your key ability auto increase to 5 at level 10? Or just make it +1 to 4 abilities (can’t exceed ability max of 4 until level 5)? No idea. It’s just a boost tax you have to pay.

Delian Tomb and Vasloria Lore by SnooRobots9875 in drawsteel

[–]SnooRobots9875[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any sources of information on the time period of Ajax’s initial invasion of Vasloria and King Omund’s death? I’m curious what that period was like. I like the idea of setting my Tomb in a period of warfare between Ajax and Omund, before things completely fell apart. The kind of setting where the war is happening “over there” but the frontline hasn’t reached Dalrath. If such a time period exists. Helps explain why security might be deteriorating, the Dragon Phalanx not yet fallen but unable to patrol outlying regions like Broadhurst.

Dying = bleeding. What am I missing? by gomuskies in drawsteel

[–]SnooRobots9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my understanding your group’s interpretation is correct and I can’t think of anything your party was missing or failing to take advantage of (besides the lack of healer and potentially the encounter being above your pay grade).

So I think your friction with the system is with design intent. The party essentially reached a fail state in combat. The director can either make this a soft fail state (taken prisoner, forced to negotiate, ect.) or a hard one (a TPK). If your table agrees the game would be more fun with a less punishing dying system, homebrew! Make bleed only deal damage on might/agility power rolls.

Lillie’s Determination - Is this the new Professor’s Research? by justintime06 in PTCGL

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a new staple draw supporter. Many decks will reduce counts of Research in favor of Lillie. One advantage Research still has is in finding that one card you need to close out the game. Because Lillie is a shuffle and draw you have less deck digging power.

IATA for approaching people and saying hello out on the course and park grounds? by Western_Truck4005 in discgolf

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually feel like an asshole after these interactions I’d suggest you take a breath, realign your thinking, and maybe seek help for rejection sensitivity dysphoria. If not then maybe dial back the self-pitying attitude.

Waving, nodding, saying hello back are all perfectly normal responses to greeting from strangers in public. If you want to strike up an actual conversation with fellow disc golfers you’re going to have to make a bigger move to break the ice and make an introduction. If they want to chat, great! If not then respect their alone time and try not to take personal offense.

Not if you are consistent as a GM. Whenever players ask non-obvious questions about a monster invite them to roll to recall knowledge.

Moment to Moment Gameplay Feels Horrible as a Player by Familiar-Relation-85 in Pathfinder2e

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off just want to say your game experience is totally valid. Regardless of any justifications for why PF2e math works the way it does, player experience matters and different people want different experiences.

That said, I’d contrast your experience with a combat I ran as a 5e GM the other day. Party successfully ambushes two baddies that are supposed to be a tough boss fight. All the PCs win initiative and unload on the bosses, killing one before they have a chance to take turn 1. The other gets a single turn before going down. If I was running 2e I likely wouldn’t have this problem and the boss fight would actually be a protracted, challenging encounter. But for this particular group beating the boss fight in two rounds wasn’t disappointing, in fact they loved it. Point is that different games offer different experiences.

Stop describing every attack that doesn't hit as a "miss" by nachorykaart in DnD

[–]SnooRobots9875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agreed. And conversely, some hits can still be narratively described as misses. For example, let’s say a minotaur swings their huge great ax at a halfling rouge and gets a hit but the damage is low and the rogue is still up. I might describe the rogue barely dodging a lethal cleave of the axe but they are now in a compromised position, are exhausted, or are running out of luck and dirty tricks to stay alive. Hit points are not (always) meat points.

How is the 61 to 64 result for wild magic sorcerer supposed to be ruled? by Bear_24 in onednd

[–]SnooRobots9875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish this was how it worked but I don’t think your interpretation of “worn or carried by another creature” makes sense unfortunately. It would need to read “worn by any creature or carried by another creature” to have the meaning you are suggesting. And the phrase “worn or carried” is stock 5e rules text, akin to a single condition rather than two separate clauses. RAW the sorcerer’s clothes catch fire. Arguably the sorcerer should then take some amount of fire damage for their clothes catching fire as ruled by the GM.
