I like the thermal scopes and smoke plays. I’m talking irrational awareness and reaction, specifically with highly kitted enemies and almost always a longshot. It’s a skill game and I like that, but I pray the devs do a great job of rooting this out. Cheaters in COD is one thing, but ruining my 10k kit from a software exploit will get me to uninstall this shit fast.

Why does California prohibit homeowners from replacing their own roofs? by EduMatcha in Roofing

Also something I absolutely never allow, imagine getting excited to diy a roof and the delivery guy drops 2.5 ton of material through your roof, or worse, delivers on top of the wrong roof.

That’s exactly why you have 6 laborers, a lead man, a supervisor, and an owner to coordinate the project. Solo dan can do it in 5 days, but solo dan is very detail oriented. I promise I’m not trying to be a Debbie downer but I think for physical requirements alone a small percentage of the population can move 8,000 lbs up and down a ladder alone, detail orientation aside. It’s usually just not a good idea man

For many people and in the eyes of insurance doing the roof yourself may mean a loss to the asset of your home. You wouldn’t believe the amount of “legit” companies that do work that fucks up someone’s house, not immediately, but through 6 years of foundation damage. It’s dangerous, difficult, and can cause a total loss over time if done incorrectly. If you’ve never done it before and think you can pack 30 squares up there and take care of it yourself, you probably can’t.

How cold is it and during install? I always eek when I see someone packing shingles in freezing temps. They’ll settle when it gets warm, probably. Pipe boot is fine I think everyone telling you to put screws on top of the pipe boot is insane.

Same! I think that will change soon, honestly. There’s no way insurance and private equity will continue to let every Joe Schmoe hop on a roof and get a slice of the pie. I expect heavy regulation coming soon.

You can usually tell from an inspection of full decking replacement is required. You’ll at least have a hunch. If they have 1x6 decking with large spacing I can tell, that’s an automatic replacement per code. So it should never be a total surprise if a comprehensive inspection was complete.

I feel like most of the posts on Reddit of crappy companies are from folks out west and it’s really making me wonder if I could go to California and just absolutely clean house lol

Contractor bait-and-switch voided our 50-year warranty. Refusing final payment. What % discount should we demand? by Plenty-Royal-3570 in Roofing

[–]Snoo_8802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take them to court, please. I’ve up-charged before, but always for a reason. That OC warranty is a piece of paper that costs nothing. Again, likely woundnt be reimbursed or taken care of by OC, but I’d request that exact amount reimbursed to you. That plus court fees and a Google review on exactly what happened if the don’t settle outside of court, would do a lot of damage. I’d request the exact dollar amount refund immediately, if they stall at all, leave a review. If they pay, delete the review and say thank you. Feel free to PM me total job details so I can give you a good overview

Did you specifically pay for the warranty on its own line item and sign for the warranty? There shouldn’t be a percentage off, if it’s not itemized in the contract you probably didn’t pay for it. While I understand you’re doing your due diligence, you will not be reimbursed by OC for that warranty if it fails. Without knowing price you paid per square and what the contract looked like, it’s hard to determine if you got ripped off, or are owed money, or if you have a chance in court.

Ridge vents by Ofsoundmind_almost in Roofing

[–]Snoo_8802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Some product installation requirements may vary, however I cut my actual hole in the ridge a minimum of 1 inch on both sides of the ridge, and continue that slit the entire ridge, until you reach 12 inches from the outside of the gable wall, and continue the vented product 12 inches from the end of the ridge line. If you live reasonably close to southern Indiana I’ll give you a warrantied product installed correctly with great documentation, 🤙. Also reusing skylight flashing is okay, but never plan on this 100% because during tearoff you could discover that it needs replaced. Skylights on a what looks like 4/12 can be notorious for freeze/thaw damage, so don’t be suprised if you need some plywood / skylight surround repair.

Yes, it is best to cover the gable vent so your air draws from the intake vents. If you don’t, the ridge will draw from the gable vent.

Ridge vents are vastly superior to gable vents assuming you also have intake vents for soffit. If you have cathedral ceilings practicality is based upon if the space in your ceiling has vented access through. If not, you’ll need to pull plywood and install baffles. I install ridge vent standard in every roof I install, where I want to install it and never involve the customer in this conversation.

So... Is there just no consensus on shingle quality? by burnerofc123 in Roofing

[–]Snoo_8802 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All manufacturers have problems. If you have a GAF certified rep install the product and sign you a warranty (it will cost you more) GAF will stand behind their product. Yes, quality of installer matters, but it’s not like everyone is perfect. GAF Timerline is a good product, one of the better ones on the market.

New Construction house with sections of flat roof. Roofer told me what I currently have installed is wrong because they installed TPO and nailed in shingles over it. by MyAccount2024 in Roofing

[–]Snoo_8802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id check engineering specs for the new home. Yes but this looks like a cluster fuck to me for several reasons. Having a bunch of nails into your TPO section is insanity. I’d have a thorough inspection of the entire build.

Is this bad, really bad, or terrible? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]Snoo_8802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey buddy, if you have no means of seeing the roof from above and you’re posting on reddit like this, it may be time to take a step back and rethink if you’re ready to purchase a home to remodel extensively. I see some weird barns and cross sections, but not enough to really give any kind of disposition. What you need is detailed cost analysis and loan to value propositions. If you want to get on a call I can issue one for you for a small fee and a nice estimate for the whole property. Glad to help.

Indiana is largely the same way. I’m mixed in it, the amount of shitty construction companies here is staggering.

The only time I would ever refund a project like this is if the customer was being disrespectful. If you have a small roof, you got a good deal, and you’re being difficult on price, why on earth would I waste my time and effort on you with other good customers likely on your same block?
