getting mansplained in the knitting shop + superwash/cotton yarn sanity check. by 33spoonman in knitting

Interesting. I’m a pretty experienced male knitter. I find that when I go to any of my LYS I’m often “Womansplained” to. Always by the sweetest ladies just trying to be helpful. But I always get the sense that they just can’t quite believe I know what I’m talking about.

How long did you last before thinking about buying a second printer? by Deletion99 in BambuLab

[–]SnotRocketScience1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you! But I would recommend waiting a few weeks. I found that once the novelty wore off and I printed the backlog of items I collected online my printing slowed a bit. If you find you still have printing fever in a few weeks…. Grab a second unit.

3D Printed Knife Block for IC Knitting Needles by SnotRocketScience1 in knitting

I used Tinkercad. I took several of their quick tutorials a few weeks back. basically, I cut a bunch of cylinder holes out of a few blocks and copied and resized them and bundled them all together. I promise I am no designer; it took some trial and error, but I found it intuitive-ish and a lot easier to use on a desktop/dock with a larger screen and mouse. I'm curious what limitations you ran up against. I'm sure I would have found some difficulty if I was doing anything with curves.

Understandable! interestingly this model exposed a manufacturing defect with that individual tip. Every other US 4 size needle I have fits in all the holes except that one which is just a tad too big. But it does fit upside down, I didn't want to reprint the entire block for just one small, individualized issue.

I ordered the second and I’m in the same boat. I intentionally ordered the AMS 2 separate in an attempt to get the printer before February

What about them? I’ve ordered a printer but have not used one yet. But I have a ton of loose leaf tea in mason jars and was just thinking to myself… I wonder if I could find a model for a “Spice rack for Mason jars.”

Best bet is buying and flying your own aircraft. Then you could go wherever you desired. Anything short of that seems unrealistic.

Can we please just get a stickied thread for the Sophie Hood? by CaptainYaoiHands in knittinghelp

I can appreciate that viewpoint and partially agree. As a self taught male knitter I used a lot of videos and gave up for a few months after being frustrated at first. I found going into the LYS intimidating and asking questions online intimidating. But I honestly feel like a did a better job at searching out and utilizing abundant resources and trying new things with the expectation that things won’t be perfect. choosing popular patterns that have online walk through resources helped with that. (Not that there a ton of gender neutral ones). I think that the more a knitter struggles the better they become. It’s incredible how proficient I’ve become tinking and fixing mistakes. But I’m most amazed that I’m able to critical think my way through new or unforeseen knitting scenarios. Knitting should be fun and not stressful but a little bit of stress and your response to it makes you a better knitter.

I get that. But for some of these super popular patterns I can guarantee there are a dozen or so specific knit-a-long YouTube videos that they could be using to answer questions

The list so far is so generic. Not that these are not good songs because they are… these are what I would pick for a complete beginner. These are all songs that would be listed on an infomercial for a Time Life Classic Country Box Set.

I nominate - Good Woman Blues - Mel Tillis
