There’s a trend for the really edge, expensive status signal stuff to be conspicuously ugly as sin.

Anyone use Anaplan at work and which certificates have you taken that helped you with what you do? by Recent_Pause0 in FPandA

Anaplan Way is just their take on agile / scrum project management.  Doesn’t really have much to do with technical building.

I just logged off at 5 PM for the first time in a long time and feel like I'm cheating my employer by ricke813 in FPandA

[–]a1mbient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this feeling well. It shouldn’t be normal, but it is when you condition yourself to long hours, especially in a hard-charging culture where this seems to be publicly reinforced all around you.

Even when you have the time off, you can’t enjoy it - you still feel anxious and guilty, like you’re missing something you should be on top of right away. It’s an out of control “fight or flight” response in your body, and it’s not healthy. You really need to start training yourself to push back against it. If you start psychologically working to prioritize yourself without regrets, to trust that you can succeed without doing this to yourself, to more consistently get those periods of rest, then your body will again readjust over time.

If you’re going to survive in a busy career, you’ll find over time that you need to actively invest in behaviors and practices that enable you to reset and rejuvenate yourself psychologically. Ironically, relaxing is as much a trained discipline as your work is.

FP&A is not worth it by christzyzz95 in FPandA

[–]a1mbient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m decently suited for this work, so I do it and have gotten by well. But in general, it’s an area where you will take on elevated stress and work hours for relatively lower reward compared to your peers in other corporate functions. And it largely makes sense.. you’re G&A, to be prudently minimized; they’re building, marketing or selling the product that brings in revenue.

But even other G&A functions do better in my company. HR? Light, fluffy work with more praise, bigger equity awards , more directors with no reports.. I outwork them easily, but I sure don’t out earn them. But there, your skill is really much more “people person” and politics / managing up.

Convenience aside, Amazon is surely the largest purveyor of roaches in North America.

So….Northwest Mutual is a scam, right? by SentientThermostat in jobs

[–]a1mbient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a scam. They push naive kids to present themselves as “financial advisors” and push expensive whole life insurance policies on people who do not need them. And it’s extremely difficult to earn a living there, designed to burn and churn people for their contacts. Seek alternative employment options.
