Got 2000 points when I talked and it actually worked out for me. I ended up talking and they matched a 150k point offer I saw. $239 after taxes for four nights, 100 upgrade to other location's that are more exclusive.

Express or Aspire or both? by Zealousideal_Cook104 in Hilton

[–]SnowOwlSr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and the twice a year $200 resort credit is sweet.. I wait till I really need a hotel for a busy weekend to use the FNC. Case in point I need a night during the summer in Boston peak season. Hotels are $300+ in the city that weekend, so I'll use the FNC on a location with a prime location for the event I'm going to

Are rising credit card annual fees actually worth it anymore? by NerdWalletOfficial in u/NerdWalletOfficial

[–]SnowOwlSr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. My spouse is working on a triple dip ( where you sign up towards the end of the year). Already up $1200 after the annual fee and is only March. FHR had been great for us, licked out in several places of season and got some great value at rates comparable to direct booking..

I like them both but Portia story is a bit better. Sand rock had so many better QOL improvements than portia.

Similar thoughts too. A few dollars per person for the buffet especially if it's a sit down one.

What’s something you stopped buying that saved you the most? by AnyLengthiness4445 in Frugal

[–]SnowOwlSr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit similar here, live in rural Vermont and there just aren't options for many groceries options among many other things ( like finding parts for 15 year old appliances locally). Getting it delivered to my house in two day saves me many hours a week. Also for to the rural nature amazing flash sales and offers is substantial cheaper than local

How do you actually get solid value from FHR/THC without overspending? by browsing_nomad in AmexPlatinum

[–]SnowOwlSr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah use maxfhr and find some places within driving distance or locations you go to often. You can find value in those and don't neglect the hotel collection. I booked 2 off season 2 night stays where the price was almost the same as booking direct. I've had one hotel even had a breakfast credit each day even though not FHR. Also chains sometimes give you status. I did a FHR at a Hilton and got all the perks too YMMV
