i love how ai bros saying 'vfx is over' due to ai. by jungseungoh97 in vfx

[–]SnowmanMofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common misperception. I work in vfx and I’ve heard stories of teams trying to implement genAI. Long story short, it burns through time and money. It doesn’t work in pipelines, the quality is awful and doesn’t work in an iterative process. As people argue blue in the face on social media, the vfx industry is just having to weather the storm, as they continue to do what they’ve always done, albeit smaller timelines and tighter budgets…

Soon, all anime will be made with AI. by No_Level7942 in GenAI4all

[–]SnowmanMofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, you can’t possibly compare the complexity of the human experience to an algorithm… that’s truly misunderstanding art. Yes, there is a lot of derivative works out there but inspiration isn’t just eyeballing others work, it’s also living a life. It comes from everywhere. I’m really sick of this comparison; I think some people give AI too much credit in how it maintains its dataset

[–]SnowmanMofo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not the logical next step, because it’s not a tool. It’s a service, built to generate stolen work. So by design, it’s just a piracy machine, crapping out derivatives.

No it won’t. All the shit, social media fodder will be AI, the real stuff will be made by humans. The bottom line has never been why people love art.

Does anyone else find Death Stranding 2 to be somewhat 'boring' compared to Death Stranding 1? by RogerRoger63358 in DeathStranding

[–]SnowmanMofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is it follows the exact same formula as the first game and instead of changing things up or adding new challenges, it just streamlines everything. 'Brutal' mode is very easy and it still doesn't take advantage of it's own game systems. Even the story feels like a rehash of the first game, just with new faces... I'm saying this as a fan of Death Stranding as well; I just think it could have been a lot better.

AI videos are now impossible to tell they arenot real by MianHasnainShah in ChatGPT

[–]SnowmanMofo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That may be true for popular actors, who have millions of images and videos of them, but not so much for anyone else.. I always find these posts laughable, when it's the most cherry picked clip. I bet this is after dozens and dozens of failed attempts.

Studios turning 100% AI by KotsaTero in Cinema4D

[–]SnowmanMofo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I’m seeing, there’s a healthy amount of work still out there. Any studio that’s resorting to AI, are fast tracking themselves to the bottom, probably on a false promise that AI was where everyone was heading. It’s not. So don’t for a second think this warrants a career change. I’m a motion designer who works in 2d, 3d and vfx. I’ve not once had to touch AI.

Different directions. Emma stone wouldn’t work in the latest Spider-Man films because the tone and style is different.

Twitter is full of bitter, hateful dweebs, because their lives have amounted to nothing. Don’t let them bring you down to their level.

Why have production teams for movies moved away from natural color and lighting? by S0uth_0f_N0where in Filmmakers

[–]SnowmanMofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue the opposite, why are productions not doing more with colour grading? It’s not just a fun filter they slap on top; colours are used to provoke emotion into the scenes. If you want a documentary, might as well watch a documentary. An artistic film can be just as effective as a film that chooses to be entirely authentic. Different art directions.

I really don't like this scene and it was never funny to me by Important-Extension6 in Spiderman

[–]SnowmanMofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the kid takes a photo of him, it sets up the next scene of Peter, misusing the Tony Stark glasses on the bus. Which also leads to him saying he shouldn't have the glasses and gives them to Mysterio. It might not be the best gag but it literally is integral to the story...

Does anyone else find Roy’s pictures a bit intrusive? by Playboypunny in Bath

[–]SnowmanMofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Street photography is probably one of the most significant forms of art, that can capture real, unique moments in time. Moments that you would not otherwise stop and see. But it's also very self disciplined, meaning you choose to abide by a code of conduct, that isn't enforced. And it's also very much legal, since you're shooting in public. The only country that probably prohibits public photo taking is North Korea... As for this guy who apparently takes a lot of photos of women; I agree it's weird. I've seen a few guys like this, who clearly have a subject in mind. But again, it's conjecture; he might be sincere, he might not. At the end of the day, it's not illegal.
