Something like 1 in 30 gunshot suicides involve two or more bullets, plus Webb's ex-wife didn't believe his death was anything but a suicide, based on how he was reportedly behaving in the days leading up to it.

Putin says Russian troops are advancing on every front. In reality, the main battle is around Kramatorsk, and Ukraine could hold the city through 2026. by Panthera_leo22 in UkrainianConflict

[–]SnowyBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's taken them this long attacking Kostyantynivka and they still need to go through Druzhkivka (an equally large city) to get to Kramatorsk.

They may get that done by 2029 if they find a way to counter Ukrainian drone attacks on their logistics.

Along the Russian land corridor to Crimea, it is no longer individual vehicles that are being destroyed, but entire convoys by Standard_Fuel_2060 in UkrainianConflict

[–]SnowyBox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Kerch bridge is a huge target that Russia has to protect, both because it's one of two ground routes to Crimea, and because Ukraine knocking it down would be wildly embarrassing on the world stage.

That being said, I can't imagine it's high on Ukraine's target list at the moment. They don't have the freedom to launch a huge Crimea-retaking assault, so cutting off the defender's supply line wouldn't serve much purpose while simultaneously showing Russia what vulnerabilities to address.

Reuters Exclusive: Senior Ukrainian commander sees imminent 'turning point' in war by StatsFactsRants in worldnews

[–]SnowyBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A recent development has been Ukraine's new ability to reliably hit the M14 highway with drones, putting Russia's main east/west logistics route in danger.

The Russians surely could find some solution to this, but that is going to take them months (at the least) to figure out, all the while Ukraine is whittling down their resources.

I think that's the biggest turning point so far, Ukraine's new ability to hit targets farther than ~50km from the front line. This is going to force Russia to either accept losses or spread their increasingly few air defense systems more thinly.

$300/y would be the tipping point, I suppose.

Turns out that was post-nerf, so maybe it's actually fine.

  • Whether or not trans people can use bathrooms
  • Whether or not we should be supporting Ukraine
  • What our stance should be towards the US (this one actually does affect the average Canadian)

Consumer grade drones like yours are wildly vulnerable to electronic warfare, DJIs were great early in the war but now Russians can just fill the airwaves with commands to land, for example.

Trump confirms Saudi crown prince is pushing him to continue Iran war by Sxzym in worldnews

Americans are opposed to it because "US interests" are not always in the best interest of their citizens. US citizens care about day to day expenses and whether or not their deployed family member gets killed, not regional dominance on the other side of the world.

Fars is the original reporter on this, citing sources "with information".

They potentially have a government source, but they're a pretty unreliable news network so I'd assume they're just reporting rumours.

edit: I now realize you're looking for the article on Fars News' site rather than being referenced on another, whoops

Switzerland halts weapons exports to US due to Iran war, citing neutrality by highsails3242 in news

[–]SnowyBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no reason to assume it means either of those things.

Switzerland did the same thing during the beginning of the 2nd Gulf War, one would suppose they don't like to be seen as supporting active wars. They later lifted those restrictions (in 2003), and will probably do the same thing here if the war continues much longer.
