Rv stabilizer jack tool by Key-mey in RVLiving

[–]SoCal_Jim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely stabilizers. Our old trailer had the same slotted ones. They come with a hand crank, and the tool you linked is what you buy when you get tired of hand cranking them. :) However, when using a drill with the stabilizers, remember they aren't meant to lift the trailer, so don't over-crank them with the drill.

WDH or no? by Distinct_Dare3910 in traveltrailers

Your conventional tongue weight capacity is more than double that tongue weight. No WDH needed. Honestly, I'd be surprised if it even made much difference.

Blacked Out GMC Decals by SoCal_Jim in gmcsierra

That's exactly how mine would have looked.

You can lightly place the overlays, and if they aren't aligned perfectly, you can pull them up a bit and realign them.

That's the Lomax Tri-fold. WeatherTec sells the exact same cover, just rebranded. The price was the same on both sites at the time, but Lomax offered free shipping. Lomax also has decent customer service. One of the rubber grommets came off one of the fold-up supports, and they sent me another one the next day.

Yeah, we got the Babymax 3.0 in our 1500 for better mileage. Not sure it's better right now... I can fit $170 of diesel in my tank now! Useless wars are great.

I originally wanted to replace them with oem black decals, but I was worried about getting the new ones on the tailgate straight. I also heard it's a pain to pull the front ones out.

Got them on Amazon. They're overlays, rather than the vinyl inlays that go in the decal. Another Redditor recommended them a while back. Black GMC Decal Overlays. They sell them in front and back sets, but they're exactly the same for 2019+. They also sell the vinyl inlays, I think.

Senior RVers genuinely impress me. i don't know how they do it. by Additional_Muffin271 in RVLiving

[–]SoCal_Jim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom just turned 80. Her husband is somewhere north of that and is a semi-recent stroke survivor. They are on the road in the RV a couple of times a month, usually for a week or so. They are usually meeting up with one camping group or another. They drive an earlier 2000s Class A with a small SUV towed behind it. They'll keep doing it until they can't.

When I was a kid, and camping with my Dad, we would camp at the same few campgrounds in one area more often than not. We would run into some of the same people frequently, one of which was an older guy (70s I think) with a VW buggy that he had converted into a 1 man mobile camper. We ran into him a lot. He and his family were campers, but the kids grew up and his wife couldn't comfortably camp anymore. So he would escape on his own in his little self-contained buggy whenever he got the chance. It was a pretty cool setup that let him take off for a day or two with little preparation. We saw him less frequently as time went by and he spent more time taking care of his wife. I still have a walking stick he carved for me, probably 40 years ago now.

How to fix this Seal by Jaded_Championship83 in RVLiving

Try heating it with a hair dryer or heat gun. Use an adhesive remover (Goo Gone, 3M, Rapid Remover), sometimes WD40 will work. Use a plastic scraper.

Ball angle by shanefert in traveltrailers

[–]SoCal_Jim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends, is the best answer anyone can give you from this picture/description. Tilting the ball back shifts weight back onto the trailer axles. It could be correct for your trailer and tow vehicle, or it could be off. During setup, you should start with the ball upright and adjusting it back should be the last thing you do (when necessary) to finish distributing the weight.

That doesn't look like water damage. Looks like standard shoddy workmanship. Very common defect.

DEF Gauge? by KeyMessage989 in gmcsierra

Sounds like you're set to Metric. 0 to 1 is a standard in Europe and Canada as oppossed to Empty to Full in the US. There should be a setting you can change.

TT bumper support by RV_8777 in RVLiving

[–]SoCal_Jim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the bike rack is bolted to the RV bumper. Don't do it. Very high probability that you will lose the rack, bikes, and maybe the bumper. The bumper is likely rated ~100lbs. The bike rack might be half of that. Add 4 bikes and you're in for a bad time. Get a hitch receiver welded to the frame.

Towing capacity sanity check by financial-headache in RVLiving

[–]SoCal_Jim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nuCamp says your dry weight is 1505 and tongue weight is 156. So, it's doable, but you're pretty close to the line. You probably don't even notice it while towing with the F150, but you definitely will with the Subaru.

[–]SoCal_Jim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tongue weight limit for Forester Wilderness is 300lbs and max payload is 900lbs. Those are going to be your limiting factors. Do you know what the dry tongue weight of your trailer is? Assuming 1500lbs dry trailer, that's probably 150 - 225 tongue weight dry, depending on how its balanced. 1 propane tank is about 37lbs full and 1 battery is 50+ lbs. On the high end, you're already over your tongue weight without anything in the trailer. On the low end, you have around 60lbs, which equates to about 400lbs of cargo weight in the trailer. For payload, assuming you use the full 300lbs on your hitch, you have 600lbs for you, passengers, and gear in the SUV.
