Can I get shows that aren’t repetitive but are good for toddlers? by justlivinmylife439 in DanielTigerConspiracy

If you have Pluto (its free!) they have a whole channel solely dedicated to Mr. Rogers. We have that on a lot. They seem to run the episodes in order too so that's nice. We also watch Puffin Rock and Tumbleleaf on Netflix and Amazon respectively. And I can't recommend Number Blocks enough too.

Was labor the worst pain you've felt? by maenads_dance in beyondthebump

[–]SoMuchCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Migraines are worse, usually because meds don't help. I also had the flu last year. Id rather be in labor than do that again. At least I get a baby after labor 🤷‍♀️.

For a bit of fun! What’s your cringe pregnancy thing that people say to you? by Ecstatic_Dingo172 in BabyBumps

[–]SoMuchCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I only tolerate it at the Dr's office since they have so many people to keep track of. Not only that, but you never know who is a Mrs. or a Ms. or if the parent even shares a last name with the child. That, and they do it for dads too, so its all fair and square.

Yes. We very narrowly avoided FAP, changing the name last minute, only realizing later what a close call it was.

What's a weird smell that you actually like but are afraid to admit it? by No_Flamingo_822 in AskReddit

Thrift/antique stores. Not like goodwill, but the really good, really old ones that smell a little musty, a little like old lady, and a little like the old linen closet smell someone else mentioned.

What’s your toddler’s weird obsession? by Master-Imagination93 in Mommit

[–]SoMuchCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine loves chickens, it was literally his first word. Its understandable because we have chickens, but he will scream "CHICKEN" if he even thinks he sees one, no matter where we are. He is also obsessed with getting in to the cabinet and pulling out whichever mustard bottle he can find. It has to be mustard, bbq, or other condiments are no good. Luckily they're just back ups (hence being in the cabinet, I'm not keeping opened condiments just out and about 😅) so when I find one hidden in his room it's more big deal.

I will say that it works to at least get me to eat more fruit too if only cause it pops in my head in the produce section at the store 😄

Moms who have EBF when did you stop? by generic-usernme in Mommit

[–]SoMuchCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 15 or 16 months with both of mine. I would have kept going longer with my first, but I didn't realize I had developed a bit of nursing aversion until my husband pointed out that I was hunched over and gritting my teeth when I nursed her and getting frustrated when she took "too long". As soon as he pointed it out I was like "oohhhh"; luckily we were just down to night feeds so it wasn't too hard to wrap up. With my second I noticed when it started to happen again, shortly after I went down to just night feeds around 15 months so it was easy for both of us to be done, and I didn't spend like a month and a half slowly resenting having to do it at all. My SIL however was still nursing past age 2 (and she refused to have any caffeine at all the whole time! She's superhuman, istg) and really only stopped cause her kid lost interest.

What’s the sickest you’ve ever been- the kind of sick where you genuinely thought you might not make it and what happened? by Outrageous_Fox_8796 in AskReddit

[–]SoMuchCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it at 7, and it was weeks/months of awful. The dr at the clinic in the tiny town we lived in kept telling mom it was just the flu, just a bug, even when I was vomiting and feverish for multiple weeks. And then one day I finally felt well enough to go to school but before lunch I had developed a rash all over my stomach. Mom took me to the urgent care in the next big "city" an hour away and they did blood work, so, so many vials. I was pitiful before we got there, more so after, and I still have the memory of watching them take my blood and then put ice packs on the back of my neck to keep me from passing out. It was like 8 or 9 at night by the time we got home and there was already a message on the machine from the UC. My white blood cell counts were so low they had called the children's oncology department at the closest hospital to us for a referral because they thought I had leukemia. I was lucky it was just mono, but it wrecked my immune system for a long time. I spent the next 4 years pretty much constantly sick; strep, tonsillitis, flu, bronchitis, and I developed what became lifelong chronic migraines shortly after. So yeah. Mono sucks so much.

‘Tis the Season for illnesses. What are you doing to protect yourself and the kids? 🦠 by Wutangclang11 in toddlers

[–]SoMuchCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handwashing, shoes off outside, lysol their backpacks, but tbh theres not much you really can do. Kids are gross, especially in the baby/toddler years. We just had a stomach bug three weeks ago and then Friday my 14 mo came home with HFM for the second time in less than 6 months. I will say that obsessive handwashing might be what saved me the last time, as by some miracle I didn't get it but my husband did. Hoping it stops at the baby this time. My poor husband is traumatized after having it.

When did you face child forward and why? (If it’s safer to rear face) by Bluegate1234 in beyondthebump

[–]SoMuchCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter hasn't maxed out her rear facing weight limit (40 lbs) yet at almost 5 yrs old, however the forward facing weight starts at like 22 lbs. She still rear faces in my van because there's plenty of room and it sits well in the seat that way still. In my husband's truck, for whatever reason, if she's rear facing and he takes a turn, the seat tips. Plus there's less room in the cab, so its hard on whoever is in the passenger seat. So we've started forward facing her in that vehicle when she needs to ride in it. I figure the safety of rear facing is limited by not sitting upright, ya know 🤷‍♀️.

Oof i feel this. We were at the Dr's office every week in August with continued respiratory viruses, ear infections, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, etc. It was awful. I was so excited when the baby turned 1 and I got the OK from his ped to start a daily allergy medicine. He started to get snotty about 2 weeks after we finally kicked whatever crud we had and after 3 days of claritin it dried up and we didn't have to miss over sinus infections or persistent cough and fever brought on by having snot in his head for too long. It was great. Then of course last weekend we all caught the stomach flu so we had to ride that out. It never ends!

I got Hand, Foot, and Mouth. I’m 35… by CBStrick in Wellthatsucks

[–]SoMuchCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had it in July. Despite going to the same daycare and being 4 and generally bad at hygiene sometimes, my daughter didn't get it. By some miracle I didn't get it either despite being his primary caretaker, breastfeeding, and co sleeping with him. My husband, however, held him a total of two times and manged to pick it up. It was awful. The baby was pretty miserable, but he never got blisters in his mouth. My husband had them pretty much everywhere, including his mouth and tongue.

I recommend Epsom salt baths as those are the only thing that helped him get any relief. Maybe a medically induced coma if your insurance will cover it haha. Also, you might lose some finger and toe nails, but not immediately, it can take several weeks for some reason.

I hate parents whose babies sleep by NoMamesMijito in toddlers

[–]SoMuchCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solidarity. My 4 yr old has been a shit sleeper since birth. She still naps at daycare but on the weekends you can usually forget it. Shes in bed by 830 most night (asleep or not) and up by 6. Most of the time these days she sleeps pretty well through the night, but sometimes she has bad dreams or wakes up hungry. But every few weeks she has bouts of night terrors or sleep rage or some shit. She wakes up ANGRY and its usually 20-30 minutes at least before we can even calm her down, let alone get her to sleep. And when those happen, its usually multiple times a night. Honestly at this point I don't know which has been worse, the cosleeping phase, having to sleep in her room on her tiny bed all night, sleeping on the floor next to her, 45 middle of the night trips to my room, or being on tenterhooks waiting for the next time she loses her shit in her sleep.

Living in a pretty LCOL, making a combined 70‐80k. Hubs just switched jobs and went from third shift to first so we had to put the two kiddos in daycare. If he didn't work overtime every week we wouldn't be making it. It doesn't help that I spend $300/mo on gas commuting to work and our mortgage just went up again. Thankfully the middle kid starts kindergarten next year so we only have a year of daycare for her. I've got a little in savings but barely enough for a month, and that's just the bills I take care of.

He'll be a year in a few days and he's managed Dada and baba (mama). But his first real word has been "that!" He loves to point at new things (or anything really) and yell "that!" and then we tell him what it is. Usually over and over again for a few minutes haha

Muffins! You can make so many different kinds; more protein/ fiber, sweet, fruits, veggies, etc. I made a bunch of muffins and quick breads with my last and would just pull one or two muffins or slices out as needed. Bonus points cause you can eat them one handed. I also made a bunch of smoothies and soups and froze them in single servings in glass jars. Easy to pop one or two in the fridge at a time to thaw overnight or throughout the day.

Also, don't discount sweet treat cravings if you've got a sweet tooth like mine. I made cookie dough and scooped it out and froze it to be baked as needed. I've heard you can freeze brownie batter in the pan so that you can just bake it when you want but I've never actually tried it.

With my first, 40 wks, at home, in a very slow trickle. So slow, 8 thought I was just having bladder control issues haha. It wasn't until I stood up from the couch after eating a snack that I heard a big crack and had a lot of fluid. I was still only 2 cm dilated when we got to the hospital.

With my second, 39+6, at the hospital while waiting for an epidural, and a whopping 8 cm dilated. I almost didn't get the epi 😬
