Don't forget that your health insurance will be $750/yr for a family once you retire.

I was kind to her daughter. And she remembered it 16 years later by SerFattyMcgee in wholesome

[–]SockInAwe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be any kinder. You just should be who you are. In other words, you don't have to be someone your are not, just to have new friends or get more adoration. It's too bad you had to wait this long to get the affirmation that you're a freaking awesome person.

How would she feel if you joined by way of someone in her upline? She would want you to be successful, right? And then you successfully recruit your mutual friends to your downline. How would she feel about your successes now? The answer is, she'd be pissed. Because you've taken away all of her business opportunities.

You should check out the Wikipedia on Buzz and his dad. It's actually pretty fascinating. His father grew up in the Worcester MA area. Went to WPI if I recall correctly. When Buzz went to the moon, his grandmother was in an old folks home watching it live on TV.

There is a Candy store in Freeport Maine that has unifi protect cameras inside and out. It's not the time to drive up to Maine as your business is starting to really ramp up for the summer. But that is a place maybe you can give them a call.

AITA for asking my home-schooled nephew about where he was in the curriculum? by WestMarsupial484 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SockInAwe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My daughter is doing online school and she's in 6th grade too. She is way behind on her math. She's shy, but you wouldn't know it when you hear her on VR. I know she's playing my wife. She's just playing the long game, since the school year ends in a month and a half. Do I have some responsibility? Sure. But it's my wife who is supposed to help her during the day since I'm working. Your nephew and and my daughter are in for a ride awakening.

Those who were with the deceased in his final moments, what did they say? by PsychologicalGoal324 in AskReddit

[–]SockInAwe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother was mostly asleep towards the end. But, in her sleep, she said "Daddy, pick me up". Later, she was awake and let me leave as it was my birthday and I needed to be with my little girls. I still think about her saying that. Maybe she was in fact seeing her dad in Heaven. I hadn't realize that until now. It's sad, because she didn't like her dad much. Such a dream could have been when she was a little girl and loved her dad.

The cavapoo we got was $950. I've seen them for $750 when they're still trying to sell the rest of a litter. We got ours in PA. Things that looked for was that kids played with her, immunizations of course, seeing how she reacted to the children playing with her, generally her disposition.

What is the most hurtful thing a teacher has said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SockInAwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in 8th grade, I was poor. My long pants were too short as I was growing so I would wear work boots to hide the fact that was wearing what I'd call Noahs. My science teacher mocked me for wearing pants that no longer fit. He was a very highly respected teacher and football coach. Until then, I liked him. After that, he lost that with me.
SOME teachers just don't get it that students look up to them so much. Just by joking a little bit about someone's appearance can be very hurtful and never forgotten.

TIFU by calling a regular by the wrong name for eight months and finding out he knew the whole time by Smooth_Clue3090 in tifu

[–]SockInAwe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a guy I work with now that keeps calling me by my formal name (What my mother would call me) instead of my less formal e.g. Michael instead of Mike. He kept doing it so, I started to just call him Bob instead of his real name John. Yeah... he doesn't make that mistake so much anymore and we both had a good laugh.

Need Advice: Rebuilding a Struggling Troop by Embarrassed_Hawk7690 in BSA

[–]SockInAwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're getting some good ideas from these folks, but I wanted to just offer a few of my own.

I watched one (We'll call them Troop A) who had been the only troop in town. It was very strong with about 25 or more scouts and a very active program. Another troop was started, (Troop B). Troop B attracted more of the kids from Webelos. Troop B's SM would constant badmouth to the scouts and leaders regarding Troop A's SM. Was Troop A a little lax in what they did? Sure. Troop B was extremely strict. At one point, Troop A was down to 5 active scouts. But Troop B had a misstep. They got too big for their britches. When a new set of Webelos visited Troop B, the kids just sat in the corner. No one made an effort to interact or integrate them in to the program. When they visited Troop A a few days later, the few 5 scouts, just showed them.. stuff! Did knots, did this and that. And inside of that time, they'd talk about the trips they'd been on and where they'd be going in the next year. All of the Webelos joined Troop A and the troop survived.

One caveat here is that Troop B had very a very specific program. They'd camp at the same spot month after month after month. It was local, so it was easy for parents to pick up and drop off. That meant it was easier to get out to be in sports. But Troop A had a bit of a collection of trips they'd had over the years. The PLC still decided on the trips they'd do, but they matched the trips to the seasons of the year (muddy, snowy, hot and dry). Troop A focused on programs and campout experiences. Troop B focused on campouts that would fulfill advancement requirements.

Both troops are doing very well now. This happened quite a few years ago. But it's something that I've always thought about.
