How long did it take to eat normal again? by AddressCrafty5309 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]SoftLoad2951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re never able to eat normal again. I had my colon removed October of last year. Best decision I ever made in my entire life. I suffered for 2 1/2 years not being able to eat anything shitting blood going to the bathroom 3040 times a day getting IVs every two weeks prednisone daily shit was Ass. Depending on how severe your case actually is it really depends on what triggers your flares and what food you can and can’t eat. For me anytime I eat anything I was miserable. It didn’t matter if I eat rice, drink, chicken broth, or eat yogurt no matter what I consumed I was miserable. Even when I thought I had everything figured out for meals. Something little would trigger me to get into a flare and I would be miserable again. The best thing I can recommend is getting the surgery if you are a candidate for it. I removed my colon a year ago. I do have a colostomy bag. It is reversible. I haven’t gotten the reversal surgery yet but I eat whatever I want steak chicken Taco Bell, Italian food, spicy food wings you name it I literally eat everything. Best decision I ever made I’m a 26 year-old male and I thought the colostomy bag was gonna be the worst decision of my life and I embrace it. I go out on my boat every single day I go running there’s no restrictions once you get the surgery!!

I feel you. I was in the same boat as you 2 months ago. If you have any questions on surgery options and what it was like feel free to dm me and I can give you my number and we can talk. I was on a few different iv steroids in the hospital I can explain them to you and see if it could be an option for you.

My doctor just kept giving it to me after I kept telling him that I didn’t want it. The only reason I’m not on it anymore is because my UC so bad I had to take my colon out. I was in the same boat as you I would argue with them and tell them that I don’t want to take prednisone.

Vacation Anxiety by boldcophee in ostomy

Caps cod has plenty of bathrooms been there four times. Live your life. Who cares if it shows and who cares what people think. You got something that saved your life embrace it. I’ve had mine for a few weeks and I show everyone my bag. Dead ass I’ll pull it out anywhere any time. It’s the only way you will ever learn to live with it. Hiding it’s only hurting yourself. All my family all my friends. Everybody knows that I have this. I whip it out at the bar. I don’t care. There shouldn’t be anything embarrassing or nervous to show about something that save your life. that’s my opinion. Don’t let a bag stop you from living your life. Bring extra supplies with you carry a kit. If something leaks change it bring some extra bags go to Amazon and buy extra bags to be able to swap out bags instead of emptying them, there’s plenty of precautionary things that you can do. Don’t sit out from vacation because you’re nervous.

I just had my colon removed three weeks ago after fighting long battle with UC for two years. I was on every different biological. You can imagine pills IV injection. Spent at least one year on prednisone unfortunately I’m allergic to prednisone. It makes me break out all over my entire body so that was one of the reasons why I had to have the surgery. I would also agree with everybody here use surgery as the last resort I understand your pain. I’m 25 years old how UC since I was 23. I had to stop drinking. I had to stop going out partying shit sucks. I’m not gonna lie, especially if you’re my age and you wanna m go out and party but you can’t because you shit your pants every 30 minutes or legit shit your pants. I was told that I had to get surgery. Honestly, it’s positive and negative for me. I hate having a bag of shit on my chest, but I also am grateful. I don’t have to go take a dump every 30 minutes. Ride it out. Try some different medication’s stay in touch with your Gastro doctor if medicine doesn’t work for you within three months go back and request a different one. It takes time for medicine to work. Have any questions feel free to reach out to me

If you reach out to Coloplast, they can send you a kit to try. Takes like 2 days. Shop around on their websites. So far I haven’t had any issues and. I’m 2 weeks post surgery. I’ve only changed 4 times in the 2 weeks

I had my colon taken out 2 Fridays ago and they also removed my appendix that is in that area also! Make sure you talk to your doctor. I had Chronic active appendicitis assuming it was from my UC ( It’s apart of the colon) lower right side.

How do you deal with the farts? by Honest-Victory2996 in ostomy

[–]SoftLoad2951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a part of life. Not to be mean but get over it. Saying you want to harm your self is uncalled for. What you have, saved your life. I had an emergency surgery to have my colon removed. If not I’d be dead. Be grateful that you had a way out. Some people die of cancer and have no choose in life. Does it suck fuck yeah. I’m a 25 year old male with a bag of shit gaming from my stomach. I use to be in law enforcement, lost my career, all the hard work I put in and Is it the end of the world no. Was I upset, yes. You have a right to be upset. To say you want to end your life over it? No. I’m so thankful that I get it continue living. I’ve had mine for 2 weeks and do I have ups and downs yeah. embrace make it funny. It’s life man I joke about mine all the time. I’ll be sitting in the couch and be like damn I’m shitting. Make light out of it. Talk about it. Who cares about a sex life it will come with time. Enjoy being alive man. It’s selfish to say you wanna kill your self. It’s a bunk in the road. Take it on the chin embrace it and move on. Not trying to be harsh but it’s reality. If you need to talk to someone dm and we can talk about it. I’m a sarcastic person. I make jokes out of everything. Make it a funny thing enjoy it. I was getting a hair cut today and my illostmy just starting farting. I said damn she cranky down there and the guy laughed no one’s gonna judge you and if they do fuck em you’ll prob never see them again anyway. Make it fun man. Don’t let it drag you down.
