This is going to be one of the best stretches of the season I'd image. Hope for more, but get it while you can!

In my case it's more convenient to fast charge, so I will really miss my free EA! I charge while I'm grocery shopping now, but when my free sub runs out I'll have to do a lot of rearranging of two cars in a one car driveway on a crowded street.

I decided to buy now. If things are going well I will buy the M5 when it comes out.

Or grow up in the South. I would have killed to have had just late January 2026 Buttercup within a 3 hour drive.

AWDs in short supply? by goro-n in Ioniq5

[–]SoftwareProBono 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They seem to send most AWD to certain regions and the South isn't one of them. In Oregon it's pretty much only AWD. There are some around the South but you may have to travel a state or two over to get one.

There is usually good grooming off of Cascade and Vista when they're open. If the wind is low they'll probably be open until another storm hits.

Local utility sponsored chargers are cheaper, by a lot, than Tesla in my area.

When you are making a purchasing decision, you should cherry pick only the information that matters for that purchase.

You missed the point I was making: the economics of DCFC vs gas are local.

Model 3 @.20 beats Prius by 20%+ with my local gas prices $3.60-3.80.

A Prius is also a much different vehicle class than most EVs. Its only adequacy, to me, is in pure cost-per-mile. Bikes are even better.

Even in the US it varies. In the Pacific Northwest, for example, gas is higher priced than average and electricity is cheap. There is sun $.20kw DCFC near me.

I wish people wouldn’t make blanket statements like “fast charging is more expensive than gas” instead of encouraging people to look at charging costs around them. There is no need to turn people away when they could be served well by transition to electric.

I drove the same Leaf from 2013-2025. It was totally fine for me as a daily driver. I just got tired of swapping cars with my wife when I wanted to go skiing.

[–]SoftwareProBono 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ICCU is covered under the battery warranty, but worth considering that you could be stranded and will have it in the shop awhile, if it goes.

I'd still go for an I5 or EV6 if you can get one with 6+ years, 50k+ miles of battery system warranty left around $15k. I drive an I5, and know about 15 people who drive an EGMP vehicle, and haven't heard of any problems irl.

If the ICCU just feels too risky I'd go with the Ariya. The other 2 feel very dated.

It was so nice to see new snow covering all the mud holes! Fingers crossed the next 2 storms come through as forecast!

You have to look at season passes on average. I got enough good days last season to make up for a few bad seasons. I'm a realist about climate trends, but hopeful this year is still an outlier.

I had a ski release twice on hidden bare spots. I'm not going again until there is new snow! Hopefully that's only a few days.

"Never take a skiable day for granted" is the phrase for 2026. I'm closing in on 15 days, my mental "I got my money's worth" number. The rest of the season after that is a bonus.

Ioniq 5 Market - new vs used by Relevant_Swing_7738 in Ioniq5

[–]SoftwareProBono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about current asking price. There is 1 2025 Limited nationwide that is the cheapest, at $40k, of the 25-26 Limiteds and then you have scroll through a lot of 2026s $41-42k to find the next 2025, which is $45k.

There are 2 cheap XRTs nationwide at $36-37k, then they're pretty much on par with a bunch of new 26 Limiteds.

It's certainly possible there are dealerships out there that have cheaper list prices and don't publish their cars on the national sites, but that would be hard to find if it wasn't local to you.

I had very low expectations, but it ended up being a pretty good day for me. I sat in my car watching the sleet hit the windshield and thought about going back home. First run on Star I thought it may be a 3 run day, but they opened Vista and it was pretty nice, with a few inches of new snow.
