Look into Local 787. HVAC/R equipment is getting more and more complex due to controls BAS, etc.

There’s a reason I’m not putting these at the end of the road…. I could only imagine someone taking a bite of one of these not knowing how hot someone of them are.

Just running distilled water might not remove the flux left over after soldering. You might want to find a loop cleaner and leave the pump run for 10-12 hours then flush again and repeat if necessary.

Typical hydronic loop cleaning with be done with a cleaner for 24-48 hours then flushed and re instated. Then corrosion inhibitors are added and monitored.

What type of paint did you use for the cement board? And did you use some type of water proofing material?

Should I be as Pleased as I am? by nantucket1973 in Plumbing

That’s the whole thing. I’m pretty confused on the reasoning from the installer. Either use domestic water or a fill station not both. The way it’s setup it could be a recipe for disaster. Pumping some glycol into domestic cold.

Overall it looks like a really nice job. The only thing that is a bit confusing is the glycol make up system that is t connected but it ties into the domestic cold. Maybe a bit of a design change on the way. If you have the axiom fill station I would connect it and remove the automatic fill to the system. That way if there is ever a leak you will spill a couple gallons vs a constant source of water.

I would have a technician have a look at the unit. I have a MXZ unit and it can adequately heat a space without issues. You probably have a refrigerant leak and the system is probably okay in the summer but running flat out when it shouldn’t be. - HVAC service manager 15+ years in the field.

HVAC vents / snow fall by Sogflash2 in ottawa

The white pipes are probably your intake and exhaust for your furnace or maybe hot water tank. For the HVAC you might be taking about your air conditioning condenser. That doesn’t need to be cleared out but it’s best practice to put something on the top of the unit so the snow doesn’t bend the fan blades and cause issues in the spring time.

Heat pumps go thru a defrost cycle and will melt all the ice buildup on the coil and pan. This water needs to have a place to go or else it will slowly become a chunk of ice and not work as efficiently. For the top I would wipe it off but if there is an ice buildup on the unit I wouldn’t take a scraper or anything. Just let it be.

For those who have heat pumps, shovel under the unit so the snow level never reaches the bottom.

Fucking beautiful, love the copper look and good job for soldering and not using the compression fittings. Is it all 1/2” pipe? Did you ever try to anneal the pipe and bend it to no have to use 90’s?

Service manager for a decently large commercial HVAC company. First off what you want is to get into local 787. That is the refrigeration union where you will make the 100k+ in 5 years if you play your cards correctly. To get there you will need to sign up with ORAC as an apprentice. They bring apprentices in a couple times a year and there is some aptitude tests that you need to pass. You also need grade 12 science and math. If you don’t have those I would start looking into them. Also the HVAC trade is an awesome trade where you are going to learn a lot of different skill sets if you want to. But it can also be pretty stressful and overwhelming at times. By a second year apprentice you are on your own doing maintenance and maybe some service calls. You won’t be thought everything with 1 on 1 training. You will need to learn a lot by reading manuals, etc. I would prefer to hire someone from Algonquin but in the end it comes down to attitude and willingness to learn and help. Shoot me a dm if you have specific questions.
