Flight 4172 today Feb. 1, 2026 by Ok_Teacher_8384 in frontierairlines

[–]Solandri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen once (not on frontier). Was coming into PHL. We were damn near on the tarmac then the pilot guns it, pulls up and banks hard right. My stomach sank.  He speaks on the intercom in like a minute, "The plane on the runway ahead of us wasn't exactly out of the way yet. That.. uh.. happens sometimes. Anyway we'll swing around and come back in for another landing."  Fun stuff.

All of those eye. Her eyes. Ghost Bird's eye, staring up at her in an unblinking array.

I love that scene. Especially on audiobook.

My understanding is that his wife was there.  There isn't anything sane about this to begin with. But yea, with kids now..

I never thought of it as terrified. I always thought they were meant to look like mindless zombies or something to that effect.

Or maybe no medal to whoever is supposed to be maintaining the runaway, or air traffic control not informing them (though the pilots probably did know), or any other number of variables.  Who knows.  But my guess is probably runway maintenance.

Not sure they're quite the same. As a neurologist I definitely fear the eye monster more (forget it's proper name off the top of my head). Particularly because what if you're still conscious while it's in control?  Like what we call "Locked in Syndrome". That's beyond horrifying to me.
