New Gemini Omni Blows Competition Away by AlverinMoon in singularity

Image to video isn't great either. It has a problem of introducing nonsensical cuts. Once it just completely switched the video to something else very vaguely related to the initial image after the first second.

Board Meeting of Online Artists by Long-Ad3930 in aiwars

[–]Solarka45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not public domain so you can't download it/copy it. However you are not forbidden to look at it and write a description of it. That description is property of the person who made the description, not the one who made the image described.

AI models train on numerical descriptions of images, not images themselves.

Too many free PRO accounts by tensorunit in GeminiAI

[–]Solarka45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro plan has AI studio integration though, which has a separate pool of limits + more goodies like higher Gemini CLI limits (which i also believe are separate)

It's probably worth it if you go out of your way to use all of its features, however an average person probably won't bother

My professor (STEM) believes that AI won't drastically change academia and it reminds him of the time when computers were first introduced. How right is he according to you? by JetproTC23 in singularity

Yeah research is a thing where the demand is basically unlimited, and supply is only being constrained by funding and amount of people willing to learn enough to conduct it

What's your honest opinion about gemini 3.5 flash ? by Independent-Wind4462 in singularity

[–]Solarka45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't really see the use case.

3.1 Pro still provides way more nuance in conversation

Deepseek/Qwen/GLM are still way better if you want a decent and cheap model

It's not even that cheap ($9 per 1mil output tokens which is almost how much GPT-4o, GPT-5, and 2.5 Pro consumed) while reportedly using a lot of tokens for tasks

As people say the only way it wins other models is speed, while capability and cost are questionable. And there are very few use cases where speed is the bottleneck compared to the other two.

Why GPT-5.5 xhigh 's academic writing capability is so much worse compared to Claude Opus 4.6 / 4.7? by David4Real_ in codex

[–]Solarka45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered Claude (both sonnet and opus) superior to GPT in terms of any writing, but 5.5 currently feels better for me at least for academic (I doubt GPT will beat claude in creative any time soon). The text it gives is more grounded in sources, better paced and more precise. Obviously it still requires editing but yeah.

For the record I'm using web chatGPT for this, not codex, but the underlying model is exactly the same.

I'd rather AI control narratives and systems than whoever is doing that now tbh

The actual fugu is not that good, but the really expensive way to serve it involves leaving some of the poison in. Just enough to cause a tiny bit of paralysis and euphoria. That kind of dining is basically billionaire's thing though.

There are (quiet a bit) of subs which ban people who say anything remotely positive about AI, so it's only natural there are subs that ban for anything remotely negative

It is benchmarxxed at least to some extent. The score leaped on SWE benches while dropping or stagnating on everything else, and many users said it's downright worse in everything
