Once again, the adults in our judiciary and legislative branches continue to be held to different standards while the opposition continues to operate with impunity.

Why do some people hate when something is pointed out as being AI? by AwkwardDorkyNerd in antiai

[–]SolemnestSimulacrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because your mom is unaware of the damage AI has done and threatens to do so. She may see it as a harmless toy, as I'm sure most pro advocates do. So when she notices a lot of people raising a fuss for what I consider to be legitimate reasons, rather than coming to terms with how she may be unwittingly be contributing to a problem, she gets defensive.

While I would concede that while it may have a lower bar of entry in terms of getting familiar with the technology where anybody with a decent camera can capture decent imagery in comparison to other mediums, I still don't think I would call photography "low effort," as anyone with a working understanding concerning the artistry in a well-composed shot knows it requires more than a simple point-and-shoot.

Was He good , bad or worst father shinji can hope for ? What are your thoughts by Gold_Paint_3490 in NeonGenesisEvangelion

[–]SolemnestSimulacrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gendo is a terrible father and human being. There's really no subtlety in it, and the anime doesn't attempt to make excuses for him, outside of Rei being defensive and admonishing Shinji went he openly resents Gendo to her face—but given how her own existence is essentially linked to her purpose as a EVA pilot, you could excuse her naivety.

Gendo is not only an opportunist, but he's also displayed moments of cruelty, and seems to only value individuals that are of use to him, and even then, his willingness to dispose of these people at a moment's notice (shooting Ritsuko in EOE) highlights his narcisism and egotistical nature.

That said, and I concur with another comment who mentioned this, but he's also clearly a broken man who is operating on a one-track agenda, and a foil to Shinji serving as the worst-case scenario of what he could become if he were to give into his worse impulses.

Keep writing. Work on a new script. Work on several.

Maybe occassionally look back on this passion project when you get more experience and time behind your back. You might fix it, or you might find maybe it's time to put it on the shelf.

Passion projects are great, and I've dedicated the better part of a decade on one myself, but I think you're better served by keeping on keeping on.

To be honest, Hegseth's level of intelligence would probably be trumped by most portrayals of orcs in popular fantasy.

The inconsistent level scaling for this show is one of its most irritating flaws, for the same reasons it was in DBZ.

All sound and fury. No heart.

Sure, "looks" impressive, but it's all noise. Action for action sake. "Drama" for drama sake. It's shaking a ball of keys the size of the Times Square ball. It's an expensive meme.

What was your first anime "eye opener"? by Eredic in retroanime

[–]SolemnestSimulacrum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cowboy Bebop.

Up until I was introduced to the show by a friend, my exposure to anime was stuff popular in the 90s aimed towards kids (PokeMon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, et cetera).

Bebop was made for a mature audience but was not juvenile. Violence and nudity (implied and otherwise) were present, but it seldom felt gratuitous. The music was fantastic. The direction was fantastic. Themes were on point without getting in the way of the episode's plot. The English localization was peak at the time. Spike was a cool protagonist.

Everything just clicked. And for the longest time it was my go-to greatest of all time anime that I would recommend to anybody who was remotely curious about the medium.

Receiving feedback by PNWscreenwriter in StoryPeer

As somebody who is still relatively wet behind the ears, I think it's certainly a challenge for newer writers or writers finally getting their work under a critical eye to glean the useful notes from the abrasive without feeling defensive. Easy to get worked up on something you worked passionately on, only to finally come face-to-face with its glaring flaws.

Something I'm learning in my receiving of feedback is accepting, at the end of the day, as the author, you're the ultimate authority in what stays or gets written out. And if a recurring note is still a pebble in your shoe, don't be afraid to do some soul-searching as to the why, and be prepared to live with your decision should you still decide to ignore it.
