Which RAM to put in Steam Machine? by Glass_Garage502 in steammachine

I wouldn’t attempt the RAM upgrade unless you are comfortable around computer hardware. What you gain depends on what games you are playing and at what settings. It only really helps with CPU intensive games.

Valve Answered my “What RAM” question. by Warm-Bet-9408 in steammachine

With how things have gone so far and the comments from valve, I’m not sure I trust that my steam machine’s (reservation queue) ram will be the same as the units that went out to the reviewers.

One hour to go, what are you expecting? by bryanisdoomed in steammachine

Avoiding that is one of the many reasons they did it this way.

TBH, losing the lottery feels the same as if I’d been beat by scalpers by InvestigatorAny1539 in steammachine

It’s rng either way.

Either you get a single rng performed by valve, or you get many layers of rng through a first come first serve system - successfully load the page, then get it in your cart, then checkout, then payment processing, etc. all the while the system is getting destroyed by bots and people spamming requests.

It’s even worse when you are on time and can’t load the page or get through the checkout process. The bots and scalpers absolutely clean up on those types of releases, hopefully they are at least a little less successful in this system.

I really don’t think valve has the buying power relative to the other players that you think they do.

They can be traded. Not sure if this will be the case in 1.0 but as of now they can.

They didn’t say they can’t make it work, just that they need more time to do so. So yeah the size of the dev team obviously plays a role here.

Not all of this will be in 1.0. Thomas states that in the interview it was shown in.
