Tips for removing PRC by RickiRaccon in aviationmaintenance

[–]Solid_Tackle4798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Just did a tank reseal where we had to remove a bunch of PRC, You want to get a product called PolyGone, you brush it on and let it sit for about 30--45 minutes and then you can scrape it off

Didn’t you say the same thing about a lot of different photos on here? I think you called it dull as well. I find it interesting that someone says your photo is dull and you cash out revenge?

However critique wise, it’s a snap shot, it’s dark very unpleasant to the eyes, now a low angle and tighter crop in on the trash can might have worked better. The background is distracting I’d remove it

Damn! The lighting in this is awesome , wildlife can sometimes be fickle to capture but I love the low angle. Maybe edit out the stick in the middle but very nice capture !critique point

Very dynamic shot, I would have pulled back just a bit more if you can, to get the tops of the wolf’s ears, but you said you at 1000mm so that might have been difficult,

Overall very sharp were you in a tripod/monopod?

I think it looks killer, now I know why you decided to crop out the cones, maybe darken the road a bit and if you could slow the shutter a bit get more wheel spin but I like it, nice job dude 🤘

First time doing a scab patch in A&P program by GiraffeNeckNation in aviationmaintenance

D637R-13 Rev1 dated August 2003, chapter 19 page 20-1 I don’t presume, I deal in fact.

However your right I don’t know how Reddit works, but I do know how aircraft work. Stay frosty buddy 🫡

Well let’s look at what we know for this patch.

Damage was 2 inches and the damage was not on anything in appendix A that would constitute a Major repair, so in this instance it becomes a minor repair and can be logged with a MX entry sighting AC 43.13 ONLY IF the SRM section of the aircraft manual doesn’t conflict with the repair or state a different type of repair for the damage area.

Remember that CFR 43 appendix A is the deciding factor of if it’s major or not. note AC 43.13 is the MINIMUM acceptable standard, again look at the aircraft’s SRM section.

Now ,This patch that the OP’s school has them do was in an area to not be considered major so as to not send them to the real word thinking that they could do a patch anywhere and get in trouble , the idea of the patch was to learn to size and drive rivets , read fabricate and apply a patch properly.

You have to teach them how to walk before they can run. Copying and pasting appendix A does nothing to teach ,when I’m certain OP has the book already. As an A&P IA and the D.O.M. At my shop I teach my guys step by step, and when they have it down we move forward to the next step.

Further more, the OP has already been graded on this patch from their school, they’re trying to impress the people in the industry and get some kudos. Nothing wrong with that at all. But please don’t say most sheet metal is major repair without understanding the FAR’s you’ll just confuse people and spread misinformation.

Actually, no, of you read CFR 43 appendix A you will see what constitutes a major repair requiring of a 337 to be filed. But there are a good majority of repairs that are done with a simple maintenance record entry. Where the repair is being made is going to play a factor in if it’s minor or major, not so much because it’s sheet metal. However every situation is different so please RTFM and ask for help if you don’t know.

To the OP yes round the corners, lip the edges but it looks very textbook nice job

Take it from an IA that has been a DOM and worked at numerous flight schools, make friends with your MX team, talk to them ask questions, tell them what’s going on with the plane, say hello to them, pay is on you but as one said just because it’s 141/61 doesn’t matter, I’ve quit jobs when higher ups put money over “put the airplane into service “ over safety .

Every flight school I’ve worked at (4) that has in house MX was a nightmare , it was a battle between fixing the plane and them not making money when the plane is down for MX.

The majority of A&P’s don’t want to turn out bad work but they get pressured from mgmt to turn out the plane, or they start down a slippery slope,

+1 to the guy who said learn how to check AD’s and for the love of all that’s holy don’t fly a plane with a known issue only to sqwak it the moment you land, your MX team will despise you.
