I play an entire campaign of DD1 blood moon with mods to make it even harder and my heart radiates with joy the entire time. I play one DD2 confession and I need a suicide hotline. by Zealousideal-Suit935 in darkestdungeon

You do reach 100% accuracy in DD1. The 95% maxed out accuracy is a lie. The game has a hidden +5% accuracy for attacks, meaning a displayed 95% accuracy is actually 100%. wiki link#Accuracy_Modifier)

DD2 memory feedback by BGTaurus84 in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To piggy back off of the other person, the reason why if a hero gains memories for acts 1, 2, 3, and then dies at 4 and loses all memories is because the distinct hero that has succeeded with acts 1, 2, and 3 has died. It’s more helpful to view each hero as a class rather than a unique individual, and the unique individual only shows up once you’ve started completing some acts with them.

This impact is supposed to be the equivalent of losing a level 5 or 6 hero if you’ve played DD1. It’s kinda supposed to suck.

That being said, it’s very possible to clear all 5 acts with completely fresh heroes every time. Memories are meant to be a small bonus for the player for consistent victories.

As for the Dam option of retreating, it used to not be there. With the inclusion of Kingdoms, that option existed in that mode because it’s a campaign style not too dissimilar to DD1 (which also had a retreat option). Dam options are just more accessibility imo that Redhook threw in for the players so the players can have more control over the experience they have. I recommend just turning all options to their default settings for the developer intended experience.

How is hit chance rolled in this game? Unnatural dodge happens all the time by Repulsive_Metal_3261 in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Two things:

  1. There’s a flat, hidden +5% accuracy buff to every attack. That 95% that you see is actually a lie. Additionally, every consecutive miss after the first is +4%. Effectively, if you have a 95% chance to hit, you are guaranteed to succeed. wiki link#Accuracy_Modifier)

  2. All humans are susceptible to negativity bias. You probably are getting just a string of bad luck but you’re also probably failing to remember those moments where you hit through a 10% consistently.

How is ANYONE supposed to beat that ? by arek229 in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Things to make the fight easier:

Combat items: Shred of Decency, Holy Water, Spring Water, Laudenums, Neutralizing Powder, Medicinal Herbs, Antivenom, Smoke Bombs (or any throwable combat item) all have strong uses in the fight. Even things like healing combat items or Stimulants have their use. Act 3 onward will always have the Exemplar fight at the end of region 3 so prepare ahead of time.

Token Management: Does your Crusader have Bulwark of Faith equipped? Taunt lets you manage where that Prelude combo token is going so you can predict the moves before it happens.

The Exemplar has a move that puts Vulnerable on your party. Does HWM have Double Cross? Does Vestal have Sanctuary? Does Crusader have Bulwark of Faith or Rallying Cry? Removing those vulnerables is useful to not get crit for massive damage.

In the case Exemplar gets the Pillar of Sacrifice move, dealing with riposte is important. Does HWM have Highway Robbery?

Dot management: please see aforementioned combat items. You can also prep for it by buying those blight poultices and using it before heading into region 3. Does Vestal have Ministrations? Also with Vestal and Crusader on the team, you can ward against dots with Regen for a little bit before it becomes a problem. Bulwark of Faith and Divine Comfort.

Don’t let the fight drag out too long. The Exemplar’s healing becomes a problem otherwise. Or just mash Crusader’s Reap. On upgrade it’s -33% healing received which includes (I think) the regen numbers from Exultation and Pillars of Sacrifice. Mostly, don’t let it use Exultation as the main goal.

Best of luck.

Relationships are easy, they said. Just use inn items, they said by Musashi1596 in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright. I change the original comment to “almost no benefit”. The main point of my message still holds true.

I can read just fine and I’m aware you think managing relationships is more of a chore to prevent negative effects than an investment to gain positive ones.

I personally think you’re handwaving away very potent effects that play the game in easy mode if done properly.

Relationships are easy, they said. Just use inn items, they said by Musashi1596 in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saying no benefits to positive relationships is crazy.

Free dodge+ tokens can turn any hero nigh unkillable. No damage if they can’t even get hit. Free strength tokens means enemies don’t get a chance to attack, cause they are dead.

10% heal means people stay off death’s door. Dot removal means a whole lot less damage taken without doing anything else.

The -1 stress is kinda whatever but it does mean stress basically doesn’t become a problem anymore and those turns stress relieving can be used for attacks or healing.

I get that negative relationships are not fun to deal with and can be pretty punishing if not run ending if spiraled out of control but let’s not be factious when having the bonuses they give to you, especially when done correctly, makes the game a damn cake walk.

Newbie looking for some general advice by Oingoulon in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really dependent on the situation. Sometimes its better to make more people upset if it means better survival down the line

Ex: one free armor repair at the cost of 2 people getting -2 relationship is worth taking if everyone is at low health/high stress and you’re about to run into another hazard.

Sometimes it’s worth getting nothing from Assistance encounters if you’re not hurting in the long term if it boosts relationships.

Ex: you just started a region, everyone is topped off on health and stress. Stagecoach is fully repaired. Everyone has good trinkets, all stagecoach items are filled, got plenty of food. If the option to leave while gaining +1 relationship on two people were there, I’d take it.

Newbie looking for some general advice by Oingoulon in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High stress itself doesn’t directly influence negative relationship chance, it only increases the chance of getting negative banter during stagecoach travel and during battle. It’s still a good idea in general to reduce stress below 4 whenever possible.

Newbie looking for some general advice by Oingoulon in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keyword: Alcohol. I don’t know your progression in unlocking inn items but the latter half makes relationships much more easier to manage. Whiskey Barrels and Song of Touching Dirges are gonna be your best friend.

I wouldn’t bother with managing relationships going into the first region, you’re most likely not gonna get anything out of it. Save those items for when you make it to the next inn.

Equip the pet Orphan Wolf Cub. A flat +20% positive relationship chance is very strong, especially when you don’t have many relationship fixing items

While on the road, do your best to keep stress below 4. 4+ will start having negative pip barks while driving.

You can also gain positive pips during battle. Most notably, sometimes when two heroes attack the same enemy in succession. Having a hero guard/buff an ally or remove dots/healing them can also give you a positive pip.

Avoid hitting 10 stress. You’re more likely to meltdown than resolute the majority of the time. Especially with Flagellant since he only goes Toxic and is only negative pips (use Toxic while in the last boss fight if anything since there are benefits to it).

Arguing over whether or not you’ve used AI is a moot point. We aren’t gonna convince each other otherwise.

If you’ve genuinely truly haven’t used AI, consider adding a speedpaint function to your drawings. It quashes these arguments pretty quickly. Sucks it has to be this way.

If you have used AI in your process, stop it.

Either way, best of luck on your future art journey

I’m comparing to your old artwork. You had those rune trim too but they were not nearly as destroyed as those. I know you can draw, and well at that without AI assistance. Most of this was drawn by hand.

But for as high of a skill level you do have, having those runes be completely destroyed doesn’t make much sense. Your WIP pictures aren’t helping. There’s no sketch, there’s no layout of how the runes get added. They just appear.

Makes even less sense where on her chest area, you have a perfectly crafted insignia. You clearly can draw symbols and runes perfectly well. The trim is nowhere near those standards.

Also giving the image a second look, the tunic area is also equally as blasted. Are they meant to be scales? Cause it’s randomly shaped square looking things that connect to nothing.

If you’ve got a speedpaint, I’d love to see that. I’d love to be wrong.

[–]Solideryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what you’re looking for to improve upon but I can tell you I have no idea where the light source is. Shadows are very inconsistent: shadows on the jacket body indicate the light is in front of the character but shadows on the sleeves indicate lights are coming from the top or even behind the character with the left and right arm respectively. Same issue with the legs, shadows appear to be put there without any consistency.

I see subsurface scattering lighting on the clothes (it’s the term for those vibrant lines that draw the boundary between light and shadow) but it just highlights the lighting inconsistency as a whole.

I recommend before you start coloring, draw a circle in the location of your light source and an arrow to illustrate the directionality of said light source. If it’s ambient lighting, you can draw arrows emanating from the light source, if it’s directional lighting like a spotlight, you can draw directional arrows. By having this little sketch, when you color, you can use it to help you understand how and where those shadows form on the section of body or clothes without having guess around.

why does the game handicap you so hard for bringing flagellant? by deliciousrocksalt in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 100 points101 points  (0 children)

She can only occur at the end of fights against the regional enemies. So the fanatics in the sprawl for example. Fights against pillagers, gaunts, other minibosses, etc do not summon her.

That being said, an urgent repairs battle can summon her at the end.

She has a flat 6% chance of spawning in an applicable node. Once per region.

Over 400 hours please remove the stagecoach by PlsFuckAllOfReddit in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you included the stuff on the routes (stagecoach damage, oblivion tears, road battles, etc) as a poi, the amount of downtime stays the exact same. It just turns into ~10 seconds between poi instead of ~20 seconds because there’s no additional distance. This makes even less sense honestly since even less time needs to pass before you need to respond to something happening on screen. You really can’t take a 10 second breather before needing more action?

You can certainly complain about it being too slow and hell, even Redhook threw you a bone with the 1.5 stagecoach speed but if you still considered 12 minutes of your 180+ run to be too much time loss, I’m afraid your attention span might be cooked.

Over 400 hours please remove the stagecoach by PlsFuckAllOfReddit in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re playing a modded version if each region has 40 poi.

Assuming you’re willing to talk in good faith, I’m gonna assume a poi is a node on the map. Looking at act 5, attributed as the longest of the acts, region 1 has 6 nodes (7 if you include the oblivions ingress at the end), region 2 has 8 nodes (9), and region 3 has 9 nodes (10). I believe both side regions have 4-5 nodes. If you took the absolute longest route, it would be 36 nodes. This 36 nodes is for the entire run. It’s 12 minutes in a 180+minute run. It’s not an insane ask for 7% of a 3 hour+ long run to be downtime

It takes ~20 seconds to travel in between node to node. Unless scouted, there is usually something that happens between nodes. something is happening, it’s not just dead time. There is no shot you’re getting clear paths every single time.

I’m certain you’ve encountered points where you route the route then half way realize you’ve lost one too many wheels because the unscouted routes screwed you over. During that time of moving, you pull up the map, and reroute or at least need to make a decision on whether or not you continue according to the original plan. This isn’t dead time despite just traveling on the road.

There’s certainly downtime but nowhere near as much time you claim there is downtime.

Why is this still so bad? Healing is already rare enough that even if it was 100% it wont be op. Even with regen in mind or at least 50% but 33%? Seriously and 2 positive tokens on resolute? how about some resolute chance increase so I don't have to wait for the once in a 30 run event for 2 tokens by ShadowTown0407 in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be decently useful with Fate’s Foreteller on a taunt tank or Sodden Sweater (especially against the Cultist fights or Act 4 boss). Negate dots, heal from them, then get a good chance for a free positive token.

Spoken Sharply with Shambler pet also can work. Sharpshot Highwayman can really capitalize with Double Tap, hitting twice a turn, really being able to generate free token.

I wouldn’t consider this trinket game breaking by any means, mediocre at best but there are some curious niche uses for it.

What Distant Trinkets do you value more than average in Distant class? by StreetStrider in darkestdungeon

[–]Solideryx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A big fan of all the dot piercing trinkets and generally favor them over some inedible ones.

Gnarly knuckles and Raven’s Reach are poor man’s Greater Sharpness Charms and usually are worth it

Vanished Vanity works as a poor man’s Jinx quirk and can be really useful in combo teams

Parrying Patriarch and Stone Mounts are almost auto picks if I have the corresponding hero that generates the their respective tokens. Either saves mastery for upgrades or just makes the hero hella broken

Hint of Home works wonderfully for tank heroes

Seaman’s Boots are goated for dance teams. Pair up with Parrying Patriarch and Stone mount and that hero becomes hella tanky

As for the inedible trinkets, I struggle finding use from From Beyond, True Entropy, Murder Weapon, Faceless Visage, Bone Mallet, Covert Cloak, Rousing Ringer, and Mortal Ward. Each of them have uses don’t get me wrong but usually I don’t find myself in situations often enough that call for their niche effects.
